Just watched the first 5 episodes of season 2 and it still sucks but sideways and scavenger are cool probably the only characters I like so far

 

Sideways is my favorite part of Armada by far. Scavenger is great but fades into a side character later on.

Hey, if you're watching Armada on TubiTV, make sure to look for the episode Conspiracy somewhere else. It's missing on Tubi for whatever reason but it's an important episode for Starscream.

I recently watched this series myself, but only after seeing so many precautionary comments about how bad the first half is and especially those kids. So I "watched" it with my finger locked and loaded on the fast-forward button, sometimes watching only 5 minutes per episode in the first half and relying on TFwiki summaries to fill in what I missed. I still enjoyed the early duel between Hot Shot and Starscream (was it Episode 14?), and I quite liked Episode 23 "Rebellion." It was around Episode 23 that I actually started watching full episodes, and I probably watched every episode in its entirety starting from around 30. After that it was quite good and in some parts even great (Starscream's arc, and that final battle between Optimus and Megatron).

At some point between Episodes 23 and 30, I switched to Micron Legends because I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something plain WRONG with the English dub. The subtitles also weren't accurate in some places but overall it was a HUGE improvement over Armada -- conversations actually make sense and fit the animation, and it makes good use of silence -- the English dub seems to have a mortal fear of silence, because they kept adding pointless dialogue where there was none in the original, ruining the dramatic effect. (I actually went back and re-watched several of the later episodes in English because I became curious about what they had changed, which is when I noticed all this.)

Starscream was my favorite character but even he makes so much more sense in Micron Legends than Armada, and the relationship between him and Megatron is actually portrayed with some nuance; Megatron in Armada is a pretty one-note bully toward Starscream, but in Micron Legends there are numerous parts where he shows he has some layers and shading under the beetle helmet. (If you start picking out all the changes that were made to his dialogue, it almost makes you wonder if the English localization team had something against Megatron.) Also, Starscream's Japanese voice is much easier on the ears -- very natural, no straining, not cartoonish at all -- and acted very well.

What I DIDN'T like about Micron Legends: I just don't like the name "Convoy" compared to "Optimus Prime," and I thought Prime's Japanese voice lacked gravitas.

 

I tried to watch Armada because I never had seen it. Man it is hard to get through.

I skipped to the last few episodes and it seems it gets pretty epic. Like when Unicron shows up.

Sideways seems like a cool character, I like his design.

 

Just watched episode 20 and I’m done with this show. I’m sorry But I can’t finish it, it’s so bad. I’m just going to watch cybertron instead

 

I'm glad that you managed to at least stick it out as long as you did, I can't claim you didn't give it a fair shake. I have immense nostalgia for Armada, but you don't have to force yourself to like a show, so good on you for deciding to cut it off rather than make yourself miserable. Hope you find Cybertron more enjoyable.

 

I think around the time Thrust appears is when it starts to pick up. That more or less marks the point in which the series leans away from being just about collecting the minicons and more towards the characters and larger Unicron plot I think.

 

I think that may due to anime being seasonal and split up into 4 cours with one cour per season. A cour is roughly 13 weeks. With 13x4 being 52 weeks in a year. Some shows like Super Sentai take a week or so off bringing the number to around 48-50 at times.

 

Just watched the first episode of cybertron and it is so much better than armada, like a million times better but it still has some problems like it has too much stock footage, the humans are pretty annoying, some of the animation is a bit clunky but overall it’s not bad for a first episode

 

I mean comparatively to most shows, the Cybertron humans are some of the best. I’m guessing they’ll grow on you. They actually have development and change clothes! Also the stock footage gets funny in a Victory sort of way — especially when it’s filled with monologues. Those are great.

 

I personally feel like every episode is worth watching ((besides the episode known as “Vacation”)). Then again, I find G1 a complete borefest, so I must have some type of problem. Although this could be my nostalgia talking, as Armada is what introduced me to the concept of Transformers transforming into vehicles.

 

Never. It never gets good. Some of the toys from that time were alright, but the show? Eh.

Best thing about Armada was the awesome PS2 game.

 

It gets good with episode 1. And it's great when they talk about the Unicron Battles in the intro.

 

I’m nearly done with this series, (just finished the episode with nemesis prime) I still don’t like it. It’s just not for me I guess.

I like asking this when I see someone ask "When does __ get good?", maybe the issue isn't on the shows end but rather you just don't like it? Not because the show is 'bad' but because you simply don't care for it and people often think "I like this ergo this thing is good" and "I don't like this, therefore this thing is bad" when a thing's quality has nothing to do with liking it or not.

I think that's something anyone who makes a thread like this should ask themselves first.

At the moment I'm not saying Armada is super well made even though I like it either, I'm simply posing the question.

 

While this is normally the case, Armada's drive towards its endgame is regarded as significantly better than its meandering first ~half. And in this case, is probably where the question came from, because Armada does have a reputation for having some really good bits. It just really doesn't show it off early on.

I don't remember it ever getting good, but I might watch it again while high to make sure.
