To be honest, I still don't know what you mean, but I would still rather be playing these games on my TV through my Playstation than in my hand on an outdated PSP that I have to always have plugged in now because the battery life is lucky to last an hour.

I did buy FFI today. Haven’t started it yet as the day got away from me.

When you level up HP, speed may drop. When you level up STR, INT may drop.

A stripped-down version of the proficiency mechanic was also used for character growth in their action RPG Threads of Fate/Dewprism on the Playstation, which was a game I loved dearly. And it's definitely pretty manageable there, with only a few stats and not a huge time investment required to make it work.

IIRC, a major problem with FFII's original balance was that it also factored in the target's strength relative to yours. So eventually, if your characters were built well enough, then they'd gain practically nothing from fighting monsters. And then you'd have to go fight monsters that could kick your ass instead to start seeing gains again. Attacking yourself circumvented that issue, as you were always exactly as strong as yourself, so no penalties were incurred.

I’m probably on my own here, but I actually like how the FFII systems rewards you for attacking your team. It’s like having a team sparring match.

What’s missing was a training room mechanic where you could go in and do that for real against just your own team. Pay for a few rounds and the health repair at the end, then spar and get stronger.

Final Fantasy Legend would introduce potions as the way to modify a stock human’s stat line. I really wish FFII would have had that. Remakes of FFI and other games have HP up potions, Vitality Up potions, etc, and putting those in shops would have helped a lot. You’d still need weapons training, but allowing a back up way to modify stat attributes would have taken a lot of the edge of the FFII system.

Not sure I understand. It's $12 for the entire game, not a scene from it.

Good old Square thinking people are willing to spend console prices on a crappy phone port.

For an old NES game digitally ported to a modern console? Yes

I’m not talking about brand new console games.

Remember the phone market is a lot cheaper with games. A $10 phone game is like a $100 console game.

Link please? Because typically old ports on new systems still cost close to full price for said systems games. Now granted, they usually come in collections, for example the megaman legacy collections are $20 each ($40 for the full collection). The games break down to about $5 per game, but a platformer like megaman is also a much shorter game than final fantasy. $12 isn't beyond unreasonable for a port of an old game on a newer platform

I bought FFI, but I can wait for sales on the FFII and FFIII. I’ll pay premium prices for iPhone apps, but many many many will not.

    For FF1 on Steam.
Save 20% on FINAL FANTASY on Steam

$12 is reasonable for a NES game on PC, Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft platforms. I’m not complaining about that.

I’m complaining about that price for phones and tablets which is always an inferior product compared to its console counter parts.

It's the same game though. And the mobile experience is quickly catching up to consoles depending on how you choose to utilize your device. If you really don't want to pay that much for a phone copy of the game then just emulate it.

I just don’t want to play it on a phone too. If it was in Switch I totally would and now with the Steam Deck. The PC version of the game is obviously the best one.

Phones are getting stronger but they still lack buttons. Touch screen interfaces suck and I’m not carrying around a Xbox One controller with a phone holder. That isn’t convenient.

That's a choice. If you don't want to play it on a phone, why are you even complaining about the price on a phone? For you it should be a non issue. For my setup, I got a razr kishi and my phone is more or less a retro gaming hybrid console thanks to samsung dex, so I regularly get a console experience out of it. And I totally can't wait to get the Steam Deck, hopefully it'll deliver on all the promises and then some.

    It is $12 per scene.
Gotta make their money back somehow. It’s a new business model. If successful, then in the future each game will be free and then back charge you per attack.

It's $12 for worse graphics and less content than the previous version, which I bought for like $6.

Well I just started the mobile version of FFI. Yeah the font is bad, but the touch controls, music, and graphics are solid. Touch controls aren’t just a controller overlay like the FFVII port is. They’re true touch meaning you can touch monsters, items on screen, etc.

While the bonus content is gone, not all the quality of life things are. Phoenix Downs are available in the first town. It appears the worst part of the item system is fixed. MP is gone. But that’s manageable. I’m using my standard Warrior, Thief, Monk, and Red Mage army and I’m rolling so far, so the difficulty level doesn’t seem too bad.

I’m bummed the bonus content is gone, but so far I’m ok with this version of the game.

I still have no interest in buying FFII and FFIII, at least at the current price. But this was a good nostalgia pick up, and I’ll buy IV and VI.
