I'm so conflicted on this. On the one hand, PE's stylized version of OpOp IS awesome, but so far I've only been collection show accurate MP scale BW figures (mixture of Takara and TransArt) so this one would stand out... but TransArt's OpOp looks fantasticly show accurate but is waaaaay too small.

I hate being this anal. Why can't I just enjoy things.

 

Haha, I gotta sell mine too I guess. I also like my baddies to be bigger for that "David vs Goliath" feeling. But aesthetically JX Megatron has a BIG head and PE OpOp has a tiny head in comparison. I personally like the smaller head aesthetics on robots to give them the illusion of BIG bodies, but JX Megatron is dead on with CGI proportions. That is where TransArt comes in IF they would only upsize their OpOp.
Dang it, I am going to end up buying all these versions now aren't I! Time to only get one copy each. Now I know how Prime collectors feel.

 

I mean, these are expensive things. If this was like, $40 then who cares? Doesn't need to scale, doesn't need to be accurate, doesn't need to fit in the collection. Just needs to be, and enjoy!

But when we are talking hundreds of dollars, I'd really rather not have to buy multiple versions to fit multiple needs.

 

I know what you mean...lol...right now it comes down to more show size accurate(OSKO) or more visually show accurate(TranArts)...

 

Transart will probably upscale their figure again eventually. Its already been upscaled by them once. I'm just gunna wait on that figure - it's clearly meant to go with Kingdom stuff (which I don't collect).

 

The first one they made was an altered bootleg of the original OPOP toy. This one is 100% new mold, so unsure if they'll upscale it again.

 

I really haven't studied the TA figures very closely. Is the new OpOp closer in design to the smaller TA toy or the original toy?

People claimed that TA Skateboard Gorilla and Cheetor were basically OSKOs but I don't really agree there 100%.

All of the BWM figures from Transart are 100% new molds, with no shared parts with the toys they're based on. The reason people think it's the case is because 1) TransArt DID make altered bootlegs in the past and 2) The transformation and engineering is very similar to the original toys, due to them being fairly show accurate in the first place. But again, not a single part is shared (completely new sculpts) and there are differences in the engineering. Just looking at this OpOp, it's completely different from the OG toy, and from their downscaled OpOp figure.

 

TA OpOp is technically screen accurate but it’s based off a primitive 3D model of oddly designed toy. If I really want a super screen accuracy figure, then I already have with the original.

while this PE ko sacrifice a strict line for line shape for shape screen accuracy, it makes up for it with improved proportions and style. And it doesn’t go completely stylized like the PE megaton

 

I don't really agree with you. I do enjoy TA products but TA Skateboard Gorilla and Yellow Leopard is a retooled OSKO of the original product. It's clearly seen that the engineering is same but TA enhanced it with parts count and a retooled head sculpt. Many new parts, yes but it is still based on the engineering of the original toy back in 90s

 

It wasn't a bootleg, I own it, many parts transform differently. It was also half the size of the original.

That's not an oversized knockoff if they resculpted every part. They copied the engineering, but still 100% new figure, not a single peice is shared with the originals. They used the original toys as inspiration (very close mind, you) but it's not a retool. Retool would be altering the original (or a copy of the original) molds, which the BMW does not.

 

Again no it doesn't, it doesn't transform the same. The parts look similar but have different molding. I know this because I tried to transform the first one I got the usual way as the original forced it and broke it and had to buy a second one.

 

I mean, WJ stuff transformed differently and was still clearly a KO. In this instance whether it’s a KO or not doesn’t matter considering the original toys were 90% accurate already.

 

You are not alone, a lot of collectors suffer from OCD...

Fortunately for me, I buy whatever I think looks cool and / or its engineering is outstanding.

 

The TRUE way to be a toy collector.

 

That make us in the same camp. For me, scale is a bonus but appearance and accuracy come first before scale.

 

I can say now that this OSKO and Winged Dragon will almost certainly be best looking TM2 Megatron/Op Op pairing for years to come.

I don't currently collect Beast Wars MP, but anyone who does would be remiss to pass up on this just because it's not 100% toon accurate.
