The difference here is that MOTU never had a successful show after the original series, while TF has had several plus a live action movie series. The fans are used to having new continuities. Siege was an opportunity to do G1 without the continuity baggage, but then they killed Magnus...

Netflix IS dropping the whole Kingdom arc of WFC at the same time FWIW.

Also people were jarred at having Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela and took them out of it some. Not as bad as BW Megatron here though.

G1, beast wars, animated and prime are good because they can make jokes and be serious where as this new trilogy seems to be 100% serious cause this is a "big boy show" or something like that and stuff can be like that but transformers does better with silly because it is a silly concept not saying it cant be serious but it should be a mix of the two. ( also it has to have somewhat better voiceacting and plot )

That's the fun of those other series IMO. The serious is why people dunked on BM and why RiD and Armada went the other way.

Beast Machines got away with being serious (to me) because it had the character writing and themes to justify it. (And even then it’s not like it was moment-to-moment nonstop dour)

WFC does not, and that makes it such a joke. It’s trying so hard to be seriously and gritty but is entirely too unintelligent to even begin to pull plot off. It’s all bluster, pretending to be headier than it is, and comes across as even more shallow than if it hadn’t.

Is this REVIEW thread really 15 pages long and the show isn't even OUT YET?

(I know, I know... "welcome to the internet.")

WFC had a serious tone but I don't think it was trying too hard and I even wonder why that criticism gets levied at the show. What are examples of the show being too serious? Also, if the show had a lighter tone, it would still have the same glaring problems (super slow and lackluster plot, poor/illogical character motivations, poor voice acting/direction.)

Maybe if the show had a lighter tone it would have made the boring plot more bearable? That's possible but then it would feel similar to standard TF shows like Cyberverse and I personally enjoy the contrast in styles.

I won't say the tone helped the show but I also can't concretely say that it hindered it. TF fiction has always had varying degrees of seriousness, so its not a foreign element either.

I'm actually pretty excited for kingdom.I know it has many problems, like the plot and voice acting, and those beast wars characters won't be the same as the original cartoon, but I'm looking forward to any new beast wars related content.

The thing is that if you have a serious tone you invite a critical eye from audiences that will take your plot points at face value and higher scrutiny. A cartoon with more comedy akin to, say, Beast Wars, can get away with logic leaps than something like Transformers Prime that is begging you at every turn to take it seriously.

When you go for gritty and stoic you have to make sure your scripts are rock solid and your messages satisfying because you're deliberately asking people to take you seriously, and if you can't deliver you're gonna look worse than if a sillier show attempted the same plot and whiffed.

It's the same logic behind "why do people nitpick plot holes in dramas more than they do in comedy action films"

I think Hasbro didn’t invest resources properly..we have 3 examples of good shows (Voltron, MOTU, Castlevania).... Hasbro fell short. I’m pretty sure the companies are smaller too. They forced too many side plots...it should have just been a clean Wrath of Khan style story and not much more. Hasbro should also give their writing teams more flexibility. Whoever at Hasbro thinks they know what they are doing is mistaken.

I dont think its super serious I think its just it doesnt have enough not being serious where in previous shows when its going through huge storybeats it isnt making jokes but it feels like this show is just trying to be huge storybeats so everything feels kinda mundane because we go from ultra magnus dieing to Rust sea to allspark being launched to omega supreme its just that there is no time for it to take a break from all the serious.

Interesting to see one fandom through the eyes of another. I loved MOTU: Revelation, but if you look at any social media or YouTube reviews, its the worst thing ever!

I sure have seen the word "objective" in a lot of comments on this thread and others that were definitely regarding matters of taste.

Which can definitely include "execution" given that, for instance, there are some very popular manga styles that some people absolutely love and others hate. And the people who hate them say that they are not "good" art, but the people who like them disagree.

That's the thing: you enjoyed MOTU: Revelation and no one can take that away from you unless you let them, but that doesn't mean it's a well constructed or even good show.

This is a completely nonsense statement. The concept of 'good' is determined entirely by the subjective opinion of the viewer.

    Wrong. :^)

But hey, you just got done defending Snake Eyes so I'm not surprised to see you make such a statement because it definitely makes that belief easier to hold.
