Whole piece does using 2 tabs near the top, on the sides of it, within the chest. Sometimes 1 side will push in more than the other rather than both being pushed in at the same time. I usually push in near the top, at the raised/unpainted part of the canopy but very gently as it’s made of translucent plastic. You’ll know if it’s the correct spot if the cover in jet mode is able to slot into the sides of the torso(this is subtle so you may not feel it at 1st, it doesn’t really click into place and there’s the bare minimum clearance between the faux canopy and the hinge for the cover).

He's here! I'm very happy with him. QC issues present on mine: cracks on the tailfin bits (one a bit larger, but it does not seem to be a problem). The knees and ankles (no cracks btw! Whew...) could be stronger, but are not egregious. Some fairly minor paint issus, but n the whole the paint seems more durable than on MP-44 or MP-36. He is back heavy, and has some stability issues, but he certainly is much better than MP-11. Don't regret buying him (which was my major fear). Can't wait for the rest of the seekers :D

Day 2. I'm raising my impression from LIKE to LOVE. This is freaking amazing. I had to decompress mentally the drama and strain as a collector to really give this a second look with a fresh mind.

I've either heard or read the argument: if you have Maketoys then you can pass on this. I absolutely do not agree with that. Matter of fact, I originally pre-ordered this on Amazon.jp when it was first announced and when I watched Bobby Skullface's review, I literally canceled my pre-order. To be more specific, few months after I pre-ordered it, I ran into credit card problem and I got a new card and number but did not update my payment info on amazon.jp. In reality i allowed amazon.jp to cancel my order on that basis as I was past the point where I could actually cancel my pre-order purposely.

I'm not knocking Bobby as I'm a huge fan and I'm very accustomed to how he rates and feels about things.

I just felt very uneasy about missing out on this so I recently made an order on amazon.jp (from a private seller and not Takara because it was sold out). Paid substantially more than the initial order.

When I got this yesterday, I will admit, I was expecting to not be as impressed. I feel that I had a bias toward Maketoys. Afterall, one can recall Starscream before maketoys being absolutely unacceptable. So much that it even bred 3rd party companies that solely aimed to improve on the model with some success and popularity.

Then Maketoys happened which shattered all hopelessness and the whole MP community rejoiced and it became the gold standard. I think it was due to the absence of any Starscream to come after Maketoys for so long, that its reputation became further imbedded in the Fandom. Had the time of release between this and maketoys been like Apolyon and MP Megatron, the conversation would be much different. I could say that Apolyon is actually just fine too but have you tried MP megatron?! Kinda how I feel about maketoys and this.

Just throwing this out there again on the off chance I get lucky, but does anyone happen to have a spare smiling face that they'd be willing to part with for cash/a stoic face/other favours? As in this one:
    item_tf_mp-52_09~2.jpg
I was hoping there'd be an equal number of people having duplicate smiling faces as there were those with duplicate stoic faces so that people could swap what they need but that doesn't seem to have been the case :(

I wondered if I would be capable of doing him in a running pose. These are the results:

They probably weren't mixed up, but someone grabbed doubles of the same face. I dont think anyone has found an exchange partner.

Not the whole MP community rejoiced. I agree that Maketoys Meteor looked better than the official version at the time, but it was never good enough for me to consider buying one to replace my MP-11 (and I know I’m not alone in that). I figured that TakaraTomy would eventually redo the Deceptijets and would do an outstanding job with them.

Glad to see that your views on MP-52 have ended up where they are. I don’t care if someone prefers unofficial over official, but I do love seeing posts like yours that acknowledge when TT hits it out of the park. :D

@Sam came through like a champ and sent some spare legs. Starscream just came out of surgery. :D

Right spare leg had a dodgy knee so I cannibalized my old one and mixed it with parts I needed of his good one. Total left leg swap so no more busted ankle rivet

few broken spare parts left over I might spray them grey for a Galvatron ashes display.

    my foot!!!!!

I'm not far behind. My forearms arrived too, but there were some minor hairline cracks once I got into it. I've used plastic cement and the worst bit has held great (it was similar to where mine broke so I was nervous about it).

Both of the spares he sent also had the invisible hairline split that the 'good' one if mine has. I've cemented both and I've shaved the peg-in parts too. That seems to have solved it. The cause is 100% that the pegs don't fit properly and force the gap open and weaken the plastic. I took about a millimetre of the plastic from both bits of the peg, either side, and now it's spot on. That's actually a lot of extra plastic when you think about it. Oh, and I think the direction of that clip is also important. It seems to spread the forearm more one way than the other.

I'll put some pictures up later to explain

Such is the nature with DIY affairs I suppose. Damaged some of my broke parts in the process.

cannot salute Sam enough, my Starscream is now more or less PERFECT!
I just need to add some clear nail varnish to megs gun so it grips better.

hope yours is improved now too!

I noticed it was some flash around the peg when you posted your original forearms breaking. That was my theory why people’s forearms wouldn’t close completely with the hands flipped out. Is it easy to remove the hand pegs.

I think if all things are equal - if you have both figures and there aren't QC issues with either of them - then MP-52 is superior to the MakeToys figure. You get all of the different faces with Takara's and while it may be a bit oversized, MT's head is way too small. Plus, I can't stand the way the vertical stabilizers on the MT are broken up. I believe Deformation Space has also taken that route.

    Jesus, lol.

I have A Starscream still in the unopened TCP box. I forgot to cancel the pre-order, so I got 2 of these guys but only wanted 1. I had to open the AJP shipped box because it got rained on while I was away.

I keep coming so close to ordering this guy but I'm so afraid of having busted parts.

Is there any info on exactly how common they are, I wonder? Like what percentage is problem free, what percentage has minor cosmetic problems, what percentage has repairable non-cosmetic problems, and what percentage has unrepairable non-cosmetic problems?

Between this thread and the flaw tracking and fix one. You should be able to get a pretty clear idea.
