The more I think about it the more a rebooted universe makes less sense

Hopefully we get to see the Megatron scene one day. The design choices do seem odd to me as Bee, Shatter, Dropkick & Blitzwing are more Bay-esque as such while Prime & Megatron are heavily G1 inspired.

I do quite like the alternate opening but I'm glad we got the Cybertron scene in end. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. The three Earth 'Cons in Bumblebee plus Bumblebee himself look like Bayformers designs, just watered down to be slightly more in the vein of G1. Meanwhile, almost everything on the Cybertron scene looks pretty close to G1. So does Cliffjumper.

I wonder if this was to do with differing design visions among developers, or was simply what the producers thought was reasonable. Either way, I dislike the inconsistencies.

The reality is that the original, pre-TLK-disaster version of Bumblebee most likely wasn't too different from what we got, with the same villains locked in, but because of TLK, they had to rush a bunch of G1 looking stuff to distance the film from the bayverse.

If the Megatron from that scene is the one in the Tiny Turbo toy then he isn't really that different design-wise from Dropkick and Shatter. His face looks very similar to their's, style-wise.

For what it’s worth, snake eyes just bombed and Forbes (Scott Mendelson) is arguing being an outright reboot instead of a soft reboot or just prequel Hurt it in terms of box office rather than helped it. You could argue the prior 2 Joe flicks have as equal audience perception as the Bay flicks...maybe even lower. Makes you wonder what Hasbro, Paramounr and Lorenzo makes of The terrible performance (Mendelson calculates it won’t make back its 90 million budget let alone double it)

I’ll let you decide whether the same logic applies to Tf:

“In an era where legacy sequels are a far more commercially viable path forward (The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, Creed, Halloween, etc.), I’m bemused that Hasbro, Skydance and MGM went full-reboot route like it’s 2013 and we didn’t yet know that The Amazing Spider-Man was going to crash and burn on the second go-around. Heck, full-on reboots almost never birthed long-running franchises anyway. Star Trek crashed on part 3, Amazing Spider-Man crashed on part two and Chris Nolan’s trilogy was three-and-done.”

I think the issue with his logic is the fact that “legacy sequels” only work if the initial series is good. People wanted to see new movies of Star Wars, Rocky, Jurassic Park, Halloween, etc. because their respective series actually were well liked. In order to continue your universe, you have to actually deserve it.

Then I would argue tf 1-3 in general audiences minds is considered borderline good or very soon to be nostalgic

I hope they decide to reboot five-ish years down the line and the Bay fans who were nostalgic for the movie decide to see it, only to claim it ruined their childhood.

I think the ONLY ONE to be considered 'good' is the first one. And I would argue it was okay.

Now think about how many reboots the entire TF franchise has gotten over the years.

Fair enough, but I think the Transformers series has been consistently seen as pretty bad, while those other series have at least had some decent movies rather than all of them being legitimately bad. I could be wrong, since I don’t know anything about Rocky. But I think Halloween 2 and the Jurassic Park sequels are just alright rather than actively bad.

Sure there is 'okay' and than there is everything between 07 and Bumblebee which is considered some of the worst things in cinema history.

I remember when it became crystal clear that TLK was going to be a failure. So many people in the movie forum were panicking because they didn't know what to do in the situation the film was a failure.

I assume you mean financial because I think criticality they were all garbage. I also think 07 gets more credit because it was the first of its kind, but i still don't thibk it was great.

Yeah, financial. Though really I feel like because the films had made money four times in a row, people felt that critical feedback was unnecessary so long as money was made. TLK was a rude wake up call that you have to keep giving people a reason to see films when it's just the same cookie-cutter plot as nauseum with increasingly stupid justifications of the plot.

It lowkey kind of annoys me when I see people praise the 2007 movie as being 'actually good' when it really wasn't that great. It's aged pretty poorly overall and it's far from what I'd call a good adaption.

Definitely a case of rose-tinted nostalgia goggles.

I wonder if they're prepared for ROTB to be a failure now. Both our community here, but also Hasbro/Paramount.

Right now, I don't think I know anyone that's excited at the prospect of any new Transformers film. Of course, when the marketing machine starts rolling, we'll see if that changes.

My early bet is that ROTB will end up doing just an inch above Bumblebee numbers, but with, like, triple the production budget.

Yeah agreed. The first good Transformers movie is Bumblebee.

Shit I'm not prepared for ROTB to be bad. I'm running out of good Transformers media. Right now all I got is IDW.
