I honestly do not think GI Joe is the real problem - indeed, to this day I believe that Josh Duhamel would have made an excellent Duke.

The problem is Lorenzo. Just look at his last interview which makes no sense about treating old franchises with respect while also basically "subverting expectations" towards what he thinks the audience wants regarding well known franchises. When in reality, he's the one who doesn't seem to think actually staying true to the franchise is what will attract people, likely regarding it as nothing more than children's entertainment (such as the story about how he didn't want Peter Cullen to reprise Prime because the voice was from an 80s cartoon show) with an equally immature toyline attached to it.

He was hyping the crap out of how Snake Eyes was going to be good, which we know it absolutely is not. If it starts sounding very similar to what he says about ROTB...be VERY afraid.

But isn't Paramount responsible for making this film? If the quality of Snake Eyes isn't good then it is reflected on the crew that made it. That is not to say, "oh this movie bombed so the other one will," but if you're suggesting to keep GI joe away from Transformers cuz the movie is bad when the movie studio behind it made it bad then you're not really gonna change anything here.

Now this is just being absurdly unreasonable. Did you want the producer of a movie who works for a company to say that the movie is going to be very bad and very shitty and please do not go see it?

Paramount is against crossovers so don’t worry.

I think it's a good thing if a "Hasbroverse" doesn't pan out. Transformers has enough content to sustain it's own film series and doesn't need to piggyback off of other properties to world-build. In addition, Paramount has no idea what they're doing with the G.I. Joe brand at the moment so a crossover between Joes and TF probably won't happen anytime soon.

But don't you see? Everything is Lorenzo's fault. I even happen to have it on good authority that he's the real reason Megatron killed Prime in '86

I would expect him to admit that the previous films were at the very least not good and that they are trying to rectify the problems. Fact is that he said that he/they had learned from their mistakes...and then we get Snake Eyes which, shocker, proves they didn't learn shit.

According to who, Lorenzo? Dude's less trustworthy than a stereotypical snake oil salesman.

I'm honestly not big on the concept of crossovers in general. They can definitely be done well (as shown by most of the Marvel stuff), but the general idea tends to feel like extremely base-level fanservice to me. I guess I just don't find anything inherently exciting about two brands I like crossing over. I do get the appeal, I just don't personally feel much (if any) excitement towards the idea. Not to mention individual stories are crafted to fit different sets of internal logic, and crossing stuff over runs the risk of making things really confusing. It doesn't help that you pretty much have to be a fan of both brands to get something out of a crossover. Meaning something like the Transformers/Top Gun crossover toy means nothing to me, because I've never seen Top Gun.

All of that being said, I actually think GI Joe would make an okay crossover with Transformers. Both have always been 'sister brands', and (at least to my knowledge) seem to share a lot of similar character archetypes and whatnot. Plus, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would wreck the world and lore of either series (like, say, bringing in the Marvel characters would). I could see the right team crafting a really fun GI Joe/Transformers crossover movie. I do tend to share the sentiment that they should just remain their own thing. But I think it's easily the best option for a crossover.

    Shared canon/continuity =/= Crossovers

We want them to be frigging adults and learn from their errors.

    Are we sure about that?

I'm not a fan of GI Joe in general, the movies have always looked uninteresting to me. I think they should keep it well away from the Transformers franchise.

Transformers has nothing to gain from this crossover. The only reason they want to do this, is to try and piggyback GI Joe of its success. They've failed with every attempt so far, "so maybe if we put it together with Transformers, people might like it?"

I don't know much about GI Joe but one thing I would change about these movies is brighten up the colours - why does everyone have uninspired black outfits? I go and look at images from the comics/cartoon and they all have unique costumes and colours. Why strip all the personality out of it? If they implemented this, I think it would be a step in a better direction.

Some of the biggest hurtles of combining the two franchises is the time placement of the two Joe films in relation with the five Transformers films.
    1. The Fictional President in the G.I. Joe Duology films that Zartan impersonated is a hurtle according to a line of dialogue from Zartan the fictional President is on his second term. In 2007, during the first Transformers film Bush is President. Then in 2009, Obama is president in the second and presumably still in office in Dark of the Moon. In the fourth and fifth Transformers film who the president is a mystery. Its possible in this fictional world Obama only served one term then the G.I. Joe President succeed him.
    2. The Pyramids of Giza is seen in a flyover shot still in tact when Duke and Ripcord are first taken to the pit in Rise of Cobra, so maybe it takes place before ROTF...but the issue with the president comes up. From ROTF to TLK those two films show the Pyramid of Giza with hole on the top.
    3. Duke and Roadblock are playing COD MW3 in Retaliation so the film definitely takes place after 2013.
    4. London is destroyed in Retaliation.
    5. It's possible the Joe Films take place after TLK with Optimus saying we must rebuild our planets maybe after The Autobots left, M.A.R.S., Destro/McCullen's company in the first film helped repair Earth's cities after TLK somehow using nano technology prior to the events of the Joe Films and that's how his company got such great publicity...

Some options for the JoeFormers Crossovers film:
    1. Personally if a G.I. Joe/Transformers movie does happen I hope it takes place before Dark of the Moon as it adds to the whole Autobots solving human conflicts plot point by having the Autobots join the fight against Cobra with the Joes, maybe Starscream is assisting Cobra or something while Megatron is recovering from his injuries sustained in Revenge of the Fallen...
    2. Another possibility is the reboot of G.I. Joe films from Snake Eyes is built around the 7 Transformers films and the crossover happens that way.

I think the easiest solution here would be a hard, clean, Lorenzo-free reboot of both franchises. Trying to mix the two within what's already there will work about as much as starting a TFCU with 4 movies' worth of baggage.

I think a best option is to just ignore previous films, let Bumblebee be the launching point, and any films after expand from such.

I don't think Transformers and G.I.Joe should do a crossover film, build both series on their own and that's a big maybe.

@Autobot Burnout You're pretty quick to push Lorenzo under the bus.

According to Wikipedia, some of the main criticisms for Snake Eyes is the writing, editing, and directing of the action sequences. How is Lorenzo involved in any of that? Shouldn't the focus be more toward the director, writer(s), and editor(s)?

Not trying to start anything. I'm just sayin'.

I don't think they're quick to that just yet. Just have a distinct roadmap and plan ahead in advance, think about how the different characters and properties could be slowly and gradually woven together. Be creative and imaginative, though being Hollywood, that's apparently too hard for them.

Being an exec/producer, he still has a major responsibility.

If there's any reason the franchise will 'die' it's because for reasons I unfortunately can't get into the series will constantly be fighting an uphill battle unless it's forced to change in order to survive in current year. At this point I'm pretty sure the only way we're gonna get another show or movie is if they radically alter the setting or if it's yet another shitty 'dark' deconstruction about how G.I. Joe is a corrupt establishment, America is rotten to the core and Cobra are actually the 'good guys'.

Just because Snake Eyes is shit doesn't mean the franchise is dead, at least not yet.

Plus if Paramount were actually smart they would've kept the Bayverse far removed from Transformers because literally all those movies do are drag it down.

Pfft, easy. It’s because bright colors are dumb and unrealistic and don’t exist in real life, and GI Joe is a dumb baby cartoon for babies and not at all suitable for a BIG EPIC REALISTIC BADASS LIVE-ACTION movie.

The elephant in the room is that GI Joe is dead and has been dead and will stay dead because the kind of child that likes soldiers would rather play Call of Duty instead of "dumb toys for dumb babies", and Hasbro ain't gonna find a high budget gaming studio who will do a GI Joe game instead of doing their own franchise they actualy own.
