Wouldn't mind another movie tie-in game, but those seem to have fallen out of fashion lately in general.

I’m glad at least we can still play the campaigns of ROTF and DOTM. Get me somewhat close to the good old days of multiplayer.

I'd like to see another ARG-style game about Sector 7, and the slow unveiling of this new universe, this hasbroverse...

The age of movie tie-in video games appears to be over. That said, I think ROTDS turned out the way it did as a consequence of the crackdown following the DOTM novel / comic leaks. It’s so clear they knew virtually nothing about the movie as they were developing it. xD

We're way beyond the times of movie tie-in games. Those games existed back when video games could be whipped up in about a year of development time and still be halfway decent due to the lower quality graphics and expectations. Any tie-in game at this point would be absolute crap and look unfinished. Notice how the last two Transformers movie games (DOTM and ROTDS), which were some of the last movie games ever made, reused a ton of assets from the Cybertron games because they didn't have enough development time to start from scratch.

Movie tie in games (as in, all) are a thing of the past at this point. It was always hit or miss: usually being charmed out cash grabs with unpolished gameplay, or an actual good game where the devs actually cared which IP they were working for. Usually now they're just bare boned mobile microtransaction simulators.

Atleast the opposite happened with the PS3/360 TF ROTF game. Movie game or not, that was an actual good TF game better than the movie it was based off of.

How about just bringing back good TF mainstream games in general? TF isn't a franchise strictly just about movie tie in games. I wish that wasn't how Hasbro saw their video game market because of the slow decline sales of TF movie games which affected TF to resort to mobile. That doesn't mean you pack up your shit and never come back.

I mean if they made one, as long as it's at least on the level of the RotF and DotM games it could at least be decent

I would be thrilled if they ever rereleased Transformers: The Game and ROTF: The Game on Steam. The games aren't the greatest ever made, but I still enjoyed them, and would love to actually play them again. But I can't play them anymore because last time I tried to install them, it didn't work. I don't want to download the Transformers: The Game demo, because it's not the full game.

It has also bugged me a lot seeing that people have somehow figured out how to mod Transformers: The Game. Before I ever started playing the game, I remember wanting to play as some of the drones like Swindle and Dropkick, and was pretty bummed when I found out you couldn't. Now, people have found a way to actually do that, and it makes me want to finally experience what I wanted to years ago. But, I couldn't install them on the last computer I tried, so that's that.

Most likely if any other game happens it will be another junk mobile game. It would be nice if another developer picked up the rights to remaster some of the previous console games

How about Hasbro brings back transformers console gaming in general? It sucks to see the series waste away on mobile when there is potential for awesome transformers game made for console like the WFC series.

Dev times for games have increased a lot in recent years. So expecting a tie in game to a movie would mean the game has to be done in advanced or be rushed out of the gate and that would not be good for quality.

Just quoting this post to get an idea of development times.

Can someone please explain why tie-in games have to be released close to their films or shows in question?

I'd happily wait an extra year or even more if it means that my favorite movies or shows get video games that are top of the line.

This "tie-in game needs to coincide with the release of the film/show" nonsense honestly needs to stop.

The same reason almost every single amusement park ride has an exit that leads through a gift shop. People are more likely to buy something on impulse immediately after experiencing the thing they liked. Having product on shelves at the same time the movie is out is conductive to exploiting this.

Video games were much the same way. Cheap shovelware that probably was just crapped out on the cheap and sold at full triple A developer prices for a little extra cash flow.

Nowadays, most video games are larger investments that are supported longer through things like DLC and handhelds are largely replaced by mobile games.

I've wrote it before, but the problem with movie tie in games is that a film, at least the Transformers films, tends to have a handful of action scenes spread out between character driven interaction scenes, which doesn't translate as well into video games, where they need a large number of missions to play through, as a result they need to stretch stuff out and brush over other parts, or else weld in additional stuff.

Take the 07 game, Sam and Mikela only appear a few times, the whole meet the Autobots, they explain what's going on, Bee gets a new alt mode, S7 attack is all compressed into a single cut scene, Shockwave was thrown in at random etc.

The worst movie tie in game I know is for The Amazing Spider Man 2, because they pretend that the game is adapting the film, with electro and green goblin showing up, but it's just a plot of its own with bits of the film bolted on to it.

Ironically the first TASM game is much better because it doesn't adapt the film plot, like Dark of the Moon did, but rather tells it's own story in the game's universe. If they do decide to do a tie in game, they should really use that format, telling their own story within the universe of the film, either a prequel or sequel to the film.

I'd much rather, though, they do something akin to how the Insomniac Spider Man game ties to the MCU - it doesn't it's a completely separate plot with no connection to the films, but with the option to have Peter wearing the MCU suits, allowing you to play as these characters, but without being beholden to the film.

I don't think movie tie-ins will ever happen again. For multiple reasons
    • Mobile games are easier to make.
    • Movie games have a bad reception.
    • Hasbro would rather place their resources into making original games.
    • To prevent spoilers.
There's tons of good movie games, but they are a thing in the past. If we ever get one it's usually the mobile game or the unrelated tie-in.

    No.

    Never.

    Again.

Just remaster WFC/FoC or give us a new proper game. They ended for a reason, and the reason was they fucked up the ending to the WFC/FoC trilogy, so I will forever be salty about movie tie in games

But I really do want a new TF game, one that has the magic of the old ones.
