2021 CONVENTION - Toynami Shop Rick Hunter Transformable 1/100 VF-1J Battle Cry w/ Figure 2021 CONVENTION EXCLUSIVE Robotech Poseable Action Figures Series 2 (Set of 5)
It’s not real clear to me what the connection is between b2five and Toynami. BBTS lists those little 1/28 figures as Toynami…but b2five does appear to be its own brand/manufacturer. Maybe b2five is just using Toynami for their Robotech license so they can market them as official Robotech product. Not real sure! And ditto on the KC valks. They are pricing themselves right out of the market, IMO. Unless they correct the issues with their designs, I’ll never plunk down for another one. They look great, but the feel and function do not justify the price.
The first line of that Previews description reads "From Toynami." As I recall, Toynami was involved with the Oritoy Robotech figures and shitted up their prototypes to cut costs. Something similar could happen with these. If the Toynami Touch doesn't bode ill enough, 1:28 translates to 2.57 inches ("about 3 inches"). Even somebody like Hasbro that knows what they're doing at 1:18 (3.75 inches) shit the bed when they tried to run a second GI Joe line at that scale for the first live action movie. $55 for something that small, may as well be calling elderly people about swamp land in Florida.
Toynami is just involved with domestic distribution, not the design. For the Oritoy 3.75 figures I think they just didn’t use them and made their own in-house to cut costs. Problem with Harmony Gold is that once a licensee starts out with a product with potential and reasonable MSRP(like KitzConcept), once the reviews come in pointing out the potential, they seemingly add a “coolness” tax to it. Either that or production costs went up but I have my doubts about them going up that high in a relatively short span of time, so I think it’s HG tax just cause. The only things HG didn’t seem to overprice IMO were the 1/100 VF-1s more than 15 years ago(when they were $19.99 and I’m only saying that price wasn’t overpriced due to the amount of parts they came with, not the quality) and the non-transformable “super poseable” VF-1/Alpha Battloid figures.
Wow talk about a fuck-off tax. That subtle weathered look on the VF-1J can literally be done using a Micron brush marker for $2+ and a tissue. For $80 might as well put that money towards a HI METAL R VF-1J on the aftermarket, you might even have money left over after shipping.

Nice! Do we have any idea what currency that is shown on the adjacent card? If that’s USD, I’m out, lol… I do expect this to be close(r) to $100 USD, though, if the trend with their other products continues.
Fantastic toy. Unfortunately (for my wallet) I’ll pay whatever asking price a great Robotech toy costs.
Just saw this on Facebook posted by SingLeung, some of the translation sites I used aren’t giving the results I want but this is a KitzConcept 1/72 VF-1J. Further redesign for future releases or custom by a fan? I don’t know.
Mine came in a few weeks ago, but I ordered directly from the KitzConcept web shop out of Hong Kong. So, they have been released. I think it'll just take some time for BBTS to get theirs. I imagine BBTS is getting their stock order in large boxes, and that probably takes longer to arrive from overseas.
