Had somebody that I didn't even know was a gamer find me at work today to talk about Deck because he heard that I had reserved one, wasn't expecting the hype train to pass by that close.

While that will never not be stupid, I do wonder how long it is before we get ultra thin laptops that can use a wireless charging plate.

God I don't even know how they get porn onto a modernly administered system these days without being administrators or having elevated credentials - both of which indicate someone who should know better XD

A lot of people are, unfortunately. This crypto currency angers me to no end. My aunt has gotten into it (because she doesn't have enough money, even though she married into old southern money worth billions, but okay...) and she tried to rope me into it and some energy company and I'm just so sick of it. I can't wait for that whole house of cards to fall, I really can't. I don't wish disaster and suffering on these people, I just want them to go and make real money and not screw with other people's happiness.

It's just so hard to like humanity when it's becoming more and more a ball of crap every single day.

Some people NEED those graphics cards for work, they can't even obtain them. We're still at a point where buying a pre-built and raiding its corpse is what's necessary to get ANYTHING. Heck, you can't even find Ryzen APUs most of the time simply because they feature graphics capabilities. If you can, you'll pay more than it's actually worth.

On the upside, all that crypto they are mining ain't gonna buy them fresh water or habitable land when those get dangerously supply constrained because the planet they helped cook to generate magic internet money also happens to be the only one they can live on.

I'm sort of justifying it with the fact that I won't be buying any new consoles for a long time. Don't need a new PS or XB and the next Nintendo system is probably still a couple of years away.

Probably within 5 years. Dell and Leonovo have some early but impractical products along those lines already and Apple is almost certainly on the case given that they are doing it with phones and watches already.

On the crypto side, if the Chinese government is successful in cracking down on crypto mining (and they have lots of good monetary policy reasons to want to do so, from a banking perspective) then maybe it will free up the GPU supply side. Maybe. That said, next gen GPUs are going to be some time away. Going in on a Steam Deck is reasonable if you need/want PC gaming and portability, and even working in the price point, it's not unreasonable. The fact that it can/maybe run Win10 is interesting.

MS isn't going to dive into a portable gaming platform, but Sony might. The Vita had a ton of home market support, and sold reasonably well. I would not be surprised if Sony had a this gen or next gen portable gaming platform, as the prices start falling. See what SOC systems can do with current gaming is pretty impressive.

I just bought Total Annihilation on Steam today lol what a great old game. Played a few rounds of skirmish. Now gotta dig out some old add ons and see I can get them going. We used to have so many great add on weapons and planes. Some sick maps too.

Suprisingly the game had a bunch of add ons already which was great and not just the stock game.

Gotta remember that keyboard trick where you can skirmish against 9 other computers haha what fun that was. I already had to look up half the short cut keys for selecting planes and stuff.

Total Annihilation is my favourite RTS ever, years ahead of it's time and still is in some respects since hardly any games outside of it's own successors ever really leant from it.

Supreme Commander never really clicked for me for some reason, but I like the look of Zero-K and need to check that out at some point.

    This used to say 7/22...

Welp. Guess a delay is one way to lessen the load with FT Swoop incoming to TCP LMAO

But wait I still need to buy my RAM and storage FUCK

Delays in parts are a pain, but at least RAM and storage aren't that hard to come by, if you have some flexibility in the specs.

Oh yeah without a shadow of a doubt on all fronts. Thankfully both my RAM & storage selections for the most part are easy to find. Getting 4 sticks of 4000 CL16 Trident Z Neo (B-Die to boot!) and a 2TB 980 Pro (boot drive), a 4TB 870 EVO (game drive) and an 18TB Seagate Exos (UBER-high capacity for high fidelity shit, whatever it may be, totally not a fuckton of anime).

Overkill? Oh absolutely. But that's how I roll, haha.

At the very least though, just gotta get my hands on the RAM and the 980 for now just so I can get the thing all built & up and running. That and also the barebones of my audio equipment, since i'm also giving this thing a really high quality and high-fidelity audio setup.

Once all that is said and done, pretty much all hell is breaking loose, hahahaha. Packages flooding my doorstep full of months and months of figures, a giant monolithic brick flanked by speakers, monitors, etc.

X570 Aorus Xtreme. Went ASUS in my first build (Z370 Maximus X Formula), had absolutely no problems with it, but this thing has some great passive cooling while also having the best VRM for Ryzen 5000 so far.

Definitely thinking of going ASUS again next time, say in a good couple years at the very least. But by that time i'd pretty much be reaching for the stars by comparison with Threadripper, and Zenith Extremes are pretty much, no questions asked, the best choice for it.

Ok nice, was just asking cuz most boards only support 3200 RAM. Theres several versions of that board as well.

Gonna be a reaallly cool build though. Cant wait to see it all up and running!

    Sparing no expense! :p

Oh yeah no I made sure that this motherfucker could go balls to the wall with RAM. F'ing thing can support up to 5100MHz OC'd, it's insanity.

Thanks, man. With getting all the parts on top of getting a fuckton of pre-orders in of varying costs, all while trying to make sure I keep everything in a sort of ebb and flow financially (I have the scratch but I don't wanna be like Icarus and fly too close to the Sun if you get what I mean), I should have everything up and running by late August to early Sept.

DEFINITELY posting a couple pics on here, though i'm also consider whether or not I put it up on PCPartPicker to boot, also to kinda have a hyperlink that I can throw down in my sig.

That feature is damn underrated its not funny. It makes troubleshooting and testing a lot easier and I cannot recommend it enough.

Yeah man, having Direct 16-phase power with that thing is a godsend for OC'ing. I personally won't be going balls to the wall with it but I may just bump up my RAM at least.

I honestly am surprised that it isn't standard with every board out there. Could be because legit the only 2 mobos i've ever laid a hand on (the Xtreme and my aforementioned Formula) come with them. Should be standard at this point like IT'S TWO BUTTONS ON A MOTHERBOARD COME ON

Its a great idea, especially when building them and testing. A lot of people dont put them in traditional cases anymore either.

I cant tell ya how many times over the years I've just used a key or screwdriver to terminate the pins to turn on the PC when putting it together.

Would be nice if power supplies had a similar feature.
