As a 41 year old man that LOVES the mythos, and figures… this show is a love letter. The characters are grown up now. That’s fantastic! They have new agendas. Great! It’s an interesting story. Well done. The Blast Attack joke was golden, and triklops is awesome..

Maybe you will like the cg series better? Don't forget a second he-man show comes out after this one. Have not seen this yet but worried they made a family cartoon into a adult aimed one. Hate when they do that adding adult curse word in blood into a kids cartoon coming back with new episodes.

On a side note he-man now has a multiverse thanks to dc comics like marvel and dc with all versions (yes even the live action film and new adventures of he-man) as part of it! So this is just another version in it.

Note both marvel and dc has he-man in their multiverses as well! Marvel has two in fact!

The big and like, only lie I've seen is that it's stated to be a sequel when it can't work well as a direct sequel (more like a distant one with tiny retcons) but more importantly it legally cannot be a sequel. Which might be a first. The ownership is a fun rabbit hole.

I definitely interpreted the early announcement as it being a sequel to the Filmation series but it was stated: “a direct sequel to the classic MotU era.” I don’t think that was intentionally misleading but it isn’t exactly clear. Anyway, I think the beginning of the 1st episode and the flashbacks feel like Filmation but modernized so I have no problem accepting this as a sequel, even if it’s strictly true in a legal sense.

There's still the impression held by some people that Revelation is a continuation/successor to the Filmation MotU cartoon. Kevin Smith clarified in a tweet (far later than he should have) that for legal reasons, Revelation is not connected to the Filmation cartoon.

Granted, much of Revelation is informed and influenced by the Filmation cartoon, it also draws from other sources. This is shown by the inclusion of elements like He-Ro, Vikor, Wun-Dar, and King Grayskull.

I don't hear anyone criticizing that Kuduk Ungol speaks like a caveman. She wasn't depicted in that way in Filmation. But this isn't Filmation MotU.

I'm not saying people shouldn't have their gripes about the Revelation character incarnations not being like their Filmation incarnations. However, that's a matter of personal preference, not a matter of inaccuracy because Revelation is in its own universe.

In other words, Revelation is a part of the numerous Masterverse continuities just like the vintage mini comics, the Filmation cartoon, New Adventures, 200x, and so on.

Dislike Revelation because it isn't to your taste but don't dislike it because it isn't true to Filmation MotU. It's not supposed to be any more than it's supposed to be true to 200x simply because a "King Grayskull" is in it.

The end of episode 4 is so sad. But this series has awesome character development.

I'll keep it simple, I like the show and all the naysayers can shove it.

I watched episodes one and two. Like most, I enjoyed it for the most part, but loathe Teela. And it’s not just her incredible overreaction in the first episode, but she seems incredibly stubborn. Like, annoyingly stubborn.

The tech sidekick/friend/girlfriend character is pretty neat I guess. It’s not very clear what her relationship with Teela is, but it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is I can’t remember her name or any character traits other than “I do tech!1!” Single gimmick characters are not at all new for MOTU, but this one is quite boring next to the guy who is a crab and the dude with a big tail whip.

I also didn’t like many of the performances in the first episode particularly. Teela and Randor remind me of the WFC Transformers shows where our actors are reading their lines off a paper and trying to do impressions of the original voices. Orko struck me as particularly flat. I’m not even sure what flat means here, but it was all I could think while watching him. But Mark Hamill is noticeably trying, and doing a good job. His performance just makes the worse actors sound even worse. It may not have been a good idea to put someone so talented in a cast of people who are performing in a noticeably different style.

Evil-Lyn so far is the only thing keeping me interested. The sharp turn away from her normal portrayal is interesting, and from what I’ve heard she continues along this path. Also, I like her design the most out of the entire show.

All in all, it’s pretty alright. I wouldn’t recommend it to much of anyone, but then again I don’t tend to recommend many bits of media. It just has some strange choices that strike me as very odd. Maybe the next three episodes will improve my outlook.

They were very clear in other promotions they made:

"By the power of Grayskull. Netflix is receiving a brand new Master of the Universe series! Based on the classic 80s cartoon series, Masters of the Universe: Revelations will be a direct sequel to the beloved series and is coming to Netflix in July 2021."

"Kevin Smith, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, opened up to Netflix about where in the series' canon Masters of the Universe: Revelation takes place. Beginning with confirming the series picks up right after that first one, 'Narratively our show is set up as the next episode in the legacy ‘80s animated series that aired from 1983-1985. This is a continuation of that story. We're playing with the original mythology and characters, and revisiting and digging deeper into some of the unresolved storylines.'"

I finished. I liked it. Better than 80s, but not as good as 2000s. More thoughts when i get home from work

Like I said, that’s how I interpreted it. I was quoting the original synopsis that seems to have hedged.

This is one of my fundamental problems with how Kevin Smith and Netflix promoted Revelation early on. It was only through Twitter later on that he said that due to legal issues, Revelation isn't connected to the Filmation cartoon. He should have said that from the beginning.

Honestly, I can't take this as a "canonical" part of Filmation, because if it is, literally, everyone is involved in episode 1 is a thundering dumbass.

Its basically a long homage to "the shaping staff" episode in Filmation and basically hits all the similar beats as it. If this was a direct sequel, I would say 1) Is Skeletor that stupid/desperate he's trying the Faker trick again? 2) Did the Sourceress fall for Faker again...

She's the girlfriend character who's left ambiguous because the producers want to play both sides of the coin. They want credit for being LGBTQ friendly while not offending their more conservative viewers at the same time.

As for her purpose? She's the audience surrogate. The person who will ask all the questions we need answered. This role is usually filled by the annoying kid sidekick. So I'm surprise with all the celebrity casting they didn't hire Wil Wheaton to voice her.

I wish I could say that I hate being proven right whenever I make a judgement about a show based on leaked info and trailers but as much as I wanted this to be good I knew it wasn't going to be.

To put it bluntly Kevin Smith is a fuckin' loser who owes most of his career to Harvey Weinstein and hasn't made a good thing since that fat asshole was kicked out of their special club of degenerates.

This is simply another shallow attempt to bait people in with nostalgia, and if you were one of those impotent angry fanboys who bought it hook, line and sinker while bitching at anyone thinking for themselves and not just going along with the hype and making excuses at every turn: you deserve this absolute dumpsterfire of a show.

This makes sense, but it also makes no sense. I don’t understand it at all so I should probably forget about it.
Honestly, I’m incredibly glad she’s the surrogate, because I was never annoyed with her and she fit into the show pretty well.
Wow. I haven’t reached that part of the show and I do not want to watch that scene. It just makes me hate Teela some more, and it’ll just sound awful with the weird voice she has going on.

In regards to that scene you cited I'll say that
it doesn't read as insensitive as it would in our world only because they're in the land of the dead so the fact that he died is less significant(?). Replace "I died" with "I moved across town"

Aaaand the ending is completely stupid and makes no sense just to justify a toy. Ugh. So disappointed.
