They look neat, i don't like the fact however, that every super-detailed stylized take on the G1 designs always has some "THIS IS HOW THE MOVIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN" posts heh. They got a lot of detail but they're not meant to fit in the aesthetic.
I will never understand why some folks want the G1 cartoons turned into live-action/cgi frankensteins. Those character designs are part of the 80s, and that's where they should remain. They worked then, when we were kids. And they are still awesome when looked at through the window of nostalgia. At least to me. But by today's standards, they look silly, simpleton and immature. Any attempt to modernize them (like the bumblebee movie prologue) is just a preposterous cash-grab. Which is why I like the TF Prime and Bayverse designs. Whatever you think of them, they are undeniably original and utterly separate from the G1 characters.
My thoughts. Spoiler: Angry Rant! What the actual hell!!! Why were these not the live action designs!!! Damn shit ass fucking Bayvers designs!!!! FUCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!! Ok I'm done now.
That use to annoy me as well, but as the movies kept getting expeditiously worse, ruining the prospect of anything unique that could have been done with the concept they set up, I eventually stopped caring. So yeah...This might as well have been what all the films should have been, visually...Still would have been bad movies, but lets face it, that has never been what the fans really cared about. The Bumblebee movie certainly proved that.
These look pretty good. But how many Optimus Primes / Bumblebees do we need... This isn't an anti G1 thing at all either. Would it kill these companies to randomly throw out a Blitzwing or Mirage as their initial offerings? And that's being generous... I mean it would blow my mind if one of these companies came out with a Cosmos, Blaster or heck how about a Cyclonus. I'm not even asking for a Brainstorm, Flywheels, or Doubledealer here, although that would be epic.
I mean...maybe. it wouldn't kill ThreeZero, but it could kill the line if they launch with figures that people don't buy into. There's a reason companies start with A listers - more people will buy them. Then when you do a b lister, people may buy it to compliment the A list character.
Except, Threezero has been doing this for a little while now and how many Optimus Primes and Bumblebees have they made? My collection is not a Prime/Bee collection, it's a Transformer collection. Additionally, most companies would release A and B listers together so that they can stretch out the line instead of releasing all of the A listers first and then having nowhere to go.
Same reason people were pissed with black biker-suited X-Men, Spiderless Venom, and the international GI Joes. It messed with core aspects of the character’s most relatable designs. If I show pictures to 100 people around the world of G1 Optimus, Energon Optimus, RiD2002 Optimus, and ask them to pick out which one is the “real” Optimus, I’m guessing 90+% will choose G1 Optimus. That was transformers in it’s heyday. That’s why every version since has kept core elements of G1 in the design. Even Bayverse was forced to go back and redesign the head to achieve a more G1 look. Problem was, Prime was the only one really given much of a G1 look. Decepticons were completely unrecognizable monsters, and the Autobots Ratchet, Ironhide, and bumblebee really had no elements of their G1 characters. one of the reasons the MCU is so successful is that most of the time, the adapt the comicbook costumes of the heroes, regardless of how silly it looks. I’m pretty sure in a Bay Marvel Universe Vision wouldn’t be a pink and green humanoid Android. Even the scarlet Witch got her S&M outfit adapted to the live show, and it works. People have faith in Marvel’s take on the X-Men.
Damn! That Bee looks amazing. The back shot showing the details in the back of the legs etc... is what I like about ThreeZero, attention to detail. Prime looks a bit beefy in the legs, but painted up he'll look great!
Guessing the the line is indeed called Mini DLX since they seem to be on the smaller size? Hard to tell there. They look pretty neat! Might pick them up if they're priced reasonably.
It would be tough to resist a line like this if it’s some where between chug and MP. That would put these guys in a similar scale as Flame toys. That would be pretty awesome, then I could have cybertronian flametoys figures next to earth mode 3Z figures.
Please post these new pictures with the rest of the pics on the front page. I was confused as to where the new pics were. Thanks.
bumblebee looks... odd. like a generic school mascot designed after bumblebee or something. i think it's the yellow thighs throwing the whole thing off.
