Sometimes it's more exciting anticipating a figure than having it in hand. But not UW Devastator? Believe me, the elbows on Scrapper makes all the difference.
Yeah back when I got CW Devastator, I wished I knew about UW Devastator and the differences between Takaratomy and Hasbro figures. I was new to collecting Transformers and wasn't on tfw2005 or even knew about it. Six+ years later I now have 630+ Transformers figures in my collection.
Devastator was one I really wanted as a kid but could never get. When I saw UW Devy for a reasonable price on ebay I snatched him up. Pretty happy with Earthrise Prime. The cheaped out on the trailer but the figure itself is nice.
Grails are fun, and usually when I check one another takes it's place. I had personal tiers, like holy grail and lighter grail. For toy collection in general, my holy grail was a 1:1 scale Good Guy doll from the Chucky series, and with replicas the past couple of years I now own 4 different replicas, so that ultimate itch has been scratched. For Transformers, my grails alternate. My current highest grail is Mastermind Creations Cyclops, as well as G1 Shockwave & G1 Megatron. Lower personal grails would be like Cybertron Metroplex & Menasor. 2 figures that aren't entirely rare or impossible, but have wanted them a long time and consistently eluded. So for collecting? I got my grail! For my Transformers collection grail, the hunt continues!
I don't think I'll ever get Devastator. They never seem to show up in my area. I only ever saw a price tag for the repro constructies.
Yeah, that baffles me too. With all the Diaclone inspired repaints we've gotten, Hasbro doesn't want to give us the most infamous one.
I was in the same boat as well, due in part to not really liking the look of the CW Devastator, never mind the price it went for on the secondary market. Took a punt on a Jinbao KO Gravity Builder, and it was the best 120 quid I've ever spent
Nope. There have been plenty some I've been lucky enough to obtain, while others I've just lost interest in. Right now this is how I'd break down my grails. The unobtainable. Seriously wouldn't even begin to know where to look to try and track down Shuffler. Only available at Wonderfest and who even knows how many are out there. The price if I did manage to find one quite frankly just scares the ever living crap out of me. The rare and expensive. The last version of the LoC Starscream mold I need for my collection. Haven't gotten it yet just because it's so damn expensive. They don't exist. After fiddling with Earthrise Wingthing, I just want more cassettes. All of them. The Dinos, Beastbox, Raindance, Enemy, all of Blasters cassettes, Rosanna, Flipsides, etc etc Just won't be happy until they're all made especially the Dino cassettes, would really love updates to them. Not even a Selects release. I mean we got Exhaust for crying out loud. A Blue Bluestreak would just be a repaint. Bah, just don't get Hasbro sometimes.
Unfortunately no, I have been too poor to obtain my Grails as of yet (Yes I know BlackZarak isn’t out yet, but I prefer him over the original release (Scorponok))
The trouble for me is that I don't have a singular grail and thus the idea of getting ALL of the things tied for first place is frankly impossible. I'd love to have a ton of stuff from Japanese G1, for example, but I'm never going to track down and afford Guard City, Battle Gaia, The Battlestars, Big Powered and a Black Zarak. If I had only one grail, I could in theory maybe be able to save up for years and track it down.
And I found a Malaysian site, xl-shop.com, that has the 2-pack sealed for a great price, like less than half what it goes for on eBay. Unfortunately it's the sort of place where you put in your order and then wait for them to calculate your shipping and send you an invoice and only then do you pay and complete the purchase. They claim they send the invoice within 24 hours. I've been waiting four days. I guess that's all part of what makes this a grail.
Mine was the TF Expo 2014 MP Sideswipe. Very limited release and took me quite a while to find at a reasonable price
Just one of them, the G1 Liokaiser, which is AFA graded oh yes, and the G1 Takara Construticons, which are still MISB and hopefully, I will get G1 Takara Raiden/Trainbot one day (I was so close of getting the diaclone version but lost out in negotiation.)
I've ended up with creating myself a "grail".. the POTP Greenlight as I could have gotten it for normal prices but at the time, I didn't consider that I would ever manage to get the other fembots for the Elita combiner. Short version: I did, and now Greenlight is insanely priced. Truly a scalper's dream figure... damn.
I think one of my biggest holy grails Transformers wise would be a G1 Deathsaurus or Haslab Unicron, both incredibly rare and extremely pricey. But for lighter grails those would be Energon Bruticus Maximus, had barricade as a kid and he got stolen when I brought him to school. Movie Stockade, I had him as a kid too but he just vanished without a trace. G1 Defensor, my favorite combiner and loved the photos of his toy when I was younger. A new Cybertron Optimus Prime, my original is just in horrible shape and it would be nice to get a new one. And my Unobtainium, Generations Star Saber which now is real, cant wait for fall 2022!
I've always wanted a Robots in Disguise Brave Maximus. That's my grail for now. It's the last figure I need to complete the on screen Transformers from that series.
I only collect two Transformers lines, original G1 (series 1 & 2) and Masterpiece. For G1, my grail was Jetfire. I managed to get him for a great price in box back when eBay was good. My other grail won't happen unfortunately, I wanted a "Hasui" style MP G1 Jazz.
