I don't think we necessarily need "better" as much as we need "more."

A key component of both G1 and Beast Wars was enough room to give the cast a spotlight here and there.

These Netflix shows are doing their best with a mandated large cast, but they have too much narrative ground to cover in limited episode arcs.

I think it's a problem with a lot of streaming shows - there isn't as much emphasis these days on a single episode telling a story of its own.

At least those movies had amazing visuals and effects as well as good voice acting. Yes obviously the budget was much much higher, but this series to me doesn’t have really anything going for it.

Voice acting and slow dialogue are common complaints bout this show but what about in my opinion the absolute shit action. Like am I the only one all the fights are just boring standing and shooting and scraps between op and megs. There’s no consistency in gun power either sometimes one shot to the shoulder will kill someone (skywarp) and then other times characters will just bloody eat point blank shots.

Here's an idea: drop the completely incompetent Rooster Teeth for the animation, screw CG, and get Powerhouse (Castlevania, MOTU: Revelation) for the next one.

Oh wow, lol, that is a completely subjective statement. She-Ra was a huge hit. I can't even imagine what you mean by "real fan".

Modern Transformers shows are always disappointing. I don't know exactly how to describe it other than no love goes into them. They are soulless. You can tell those guys cared about their work when watching the original Beast Wars. Newer stuff just doesn't have "it."

compared to what? the original? Beast wars? Where characters were killed off so new toys could be introduced? How many times do we have to watch “new” interviews with Flint Dille telling everyone they only saw characters as a product and didn’t care who they killed while smiling through his teeth and that the shows were commercials to sell toys

yeah I remember beast wars too and how they killed off scorponok and terrorsaur are without a care and the tigerhawk situation.

they didn’t care back then as much as you think man. The people behind those shows didn’t care they only act like they do now because they get a trip to a convention and have fans ogle all over them asking for behind the scenes and who their character was while you slide them a $50 for an autograph

I'm going to do with Kingdom what I've been doing on Siege and Earthrise rewatches: play at 1.25x speed. Half of my problems with this series are outright eliminated with one simple choice.

This isn't G1, nor BW proper. It was never intended to be. Does this trilogy have issues? Yeah, but if your problems stem from "It's not 1984/1996"...who cares?

The script isn't perfect. The animation can get clunky. The voice acting needs work. Even at 1.25x speed, this is a 6/10 series at best. Still, I'll happily watch it, probably never watch it again, and still be happy with the amazing WFC figures I have.

If you're still unhappy with it, just go play "pew pew pew" with your figures.

Ah yes, "real fan." I can smell the Cheetos, beer farts, and unrefrigerated Chinese takeout leftovers from my place! Brace yourselves. Someone is about to forget that they're watching an animated series based on transforming robot toys.

No voice acting would save these scripts. This show is written by people who have absolutely no idea of the proper tone for a Transformers story, it is all an embarrasing melodramatic farce, trying to impress old dudes with only vague memories of traumatic deaths in the 80s movie who fooled themselves into thinking the show has to have "grit and the horrors of war", with the added bonus that the story and dialogue are bad too, so they're aiming for a tone that is not only misguided and incredibly hard to get right but also they are not good enough writers to handle those subjects.

it is merely bad from the root.

Netflix not using the og cast for Beast Wars to reprise their roles makes me appreciative of Sony bringing back David Kaye as Clank for Rift Apart.

I don’t actually bash IDW comics.

I only bash *BAD* comics. I praise good comics. That’s the difference. I read them to find out if they are good or bad, and I will bash or praise the comic after I read it. Because how do you know until you’ve read them? It’s just that IDW has been putting out a lot of bad comics lately. Still, I’m invested in transformers enough to keep reading regardless. And if they keep putting out bad comics, I’ll keep calling them bad comics. Wreckers looks good to me by the way.

I remember guys like Furman writing for the show. Nods to people in the fandom were written into the script. Those guys were plugged into us to the point that they were reading newsgroups such as alt.toys.transformers to see how the fandom reacted to their work. I understand they had to sell toys back then, but no, the new stuff is nowhere near that level of love for the material and the fans. The toys we are getting are absolutely a labor of love, but the animation related to them is an afterthought.

Well you really can't argue with why or how a person chooses to spend their money. If thats how a person collects then thats their god given right. What makes YOU right and anyone that disagrees wrong?

Simon furman came on for name recognition and what did he do? He did what Simon furman does. He slaughtered the cast and threw his weird transformers religious shit in. I understand we want to imagine there was love put in those shows but let’s not ignore the fact that the writers didn’t know anything about transformers when it started and brought on Ben Yee because he had a fan site to consult and give them lore. That’s fact. Folks say the same about mainframe “I wish it looked as good as mainframe” mainframe never saw an episode of transformers when they were brought on to animate. They were brought on because reboot looked nice.

I love most shows but I’m also realistic and have seen plenty of behind the scenes to know that for a lot of the shows it was job and that’s all and it took kids not growing up and gushing over everything to get the writers to say “oh we just loved transformers and were so happy to work on it! So when do I get my check for this convention?”

I know folks want good writers like bob and Larry and such because they wanna believe they were big fans and knew their stuff but the thing is, they were good writers because they were writers. They weren’t fans and needed fans to tell them what transformers were

yeah no you constantly complain about them with every preview and news that comes out and tell everyone you’re forced to read them when you’re not. That’s the thing you’re bashing previews every month. Those books arnt out yet so yeah you’re complaining about stuff you haven’t read like you claim. You’re literally a hypocrite with telling someone on YouTube if they don’t enjoy something then they shouldn’t indulge in it

I think it’s also corporate executives fear of rejection. Content is so highly criticized on social media and they let the loud minority dictate their decisions. Some franchises would rather regurgitate things that have worked rather than go out on a limb. An energetic volatile consumer base breeds reluctancy to those that should be practicing high risk with high reward.

I think it was a good discussion to make the beasts wars characters be the same size as the g1 characters rather then being ant size punt-able micro masters.
