I have had these in my hands a few times now and still can't buy them. I have so many older non transforming figures of these guys already. Especially Prime, Megs & Starscream.

 

Surprised to see the negative reaction to Primal.
I actually think he looks pretty awesome. Its definitely better looking than RED Cheetor.

I don't normally buy Transformers that don't transform, but idk... I might actually pick this up if I ever see it in stores.

 

At least the Megatron, Optimus and Starscream are more sunbow than their WFC equivalents, they have an appeal for the more accuracy-minded fans.

In Starscream and the purple Megatron's case(s), they also fill a niche no existing WFC figure fills, that being a coronation Starscream and a mid-conversion Megatron.

Arguably Bumblebee has a place too, given he comes with that helicopter backpack.

 

That Megatron is fucking sick. I could see someone putting that next to the rumored “Reformatting Galvatron” that is rumored. Primal, on the other hand… yikes.

 

I personally think the mishmash Multiple characters from multiple sources works well for R.E.D. We got G1 Megatron, Optimus Prime, and Soundwave, Beast Wars Cheetor and Optimus Primal, Prime Arcee, Coronation Starscream, and now we got Mid-Reformation Megatron. And for Bumblebee, he was based upon concept art that influenced his design in the 2019 IDW Comics and the WFC Trilogy. It works well considering that all of them are popular characters.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again, especially with Primal's case.

The entire RED series is REDUNDANT. There's literally zero reason for these to exist, at all.

Reformatting Megatron might just end up being the only R.E.D. figure I'll get, because I like the idea of displaying him in the middle between my Earthrise Megatron, and Kingdom Galvatron whenever I pick him up. If there is a Reformatting Galvatron on the horizon, same thing.

And if I ever got a Unicron, whether it be Haslab or 01 Studio Cell or Pumpkin, putting the three of them in front of him would make for a pretty awesome display I think.

 

OK, so here is where the R.E.D. concept begins to fall apart for me. More screen accurate sculpts, especially for designs that don't necessarily lend themselves well to toys like TF: Prime, but when the figure as in the case of Optimus Primal looks exactly like the recent Kingdom version but doesn't transform... that's where you've lost me. I'm sure we will see other examples in the not too distant future where the R.E.D. version isn't playing to the strengths of this non-transformable concept, but the big question is... is anyone even still buying these? I go to Walmart's A LOT and these seem to just sit and sit and sit.

 

I noticed the price went up to match deluxe pricing. That's a shame as I've bought R.E.D. figures as recent as Bee and Starscream for less than $20.

 

I really do not see the point in these Beast Wars RED figures. The G1 guys are MEGA show accurate, Prime Acres is mega show accurate, we're getting BW figures that take a decent amount of liberties to make the beast modes more realistic. With that pattern you'd think that the RED BW guys would basically be non transforming versions of the Masterpiece Robot modes right? Make them mega show accurate like the other characters right? Kinda the whole thing they tried to sell us on when they first announced this line?

No. They just look worse than even the kingdom figures in various subtle ways that build up into something dumb.

Now with that out of the way, that Megatron is dope as shit. I kinda would've liked a new head with that X-ray view, but whatever, this is way cool enough to make up for that.

I'll keep my eye open for him, he'll look awesome next to Unicron, and depending on how that reformatting Galvatron turns out they'd probably look interesting together.

I have the original R.E.D. G1 Megatron and I like him because he looks like he just came out of the screen and his ab crunch he can do which the rest of the first wave can\'t do. He is the only R.E.D. figure I have so far.

 

Definitely picking up that Megatron.

 

Yeah, that Megatron would be a nice companion piece for a Reformatting Galvatron. I just hope they don't make Galvatron shorter, though.

As for Primal, I think I'll wait around for an interesting redeco. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that happened.

Speaking of redecos, there should be a new Optimus on the way. What could it be, Dead Optimus, maybe? And possibly we could get a Ghost Starscream, too.

I'm a bit disappointed in RED because I was hoping for more detailed and better quality figures. Also the way they don't scale with each makes them look a bit odd when displaying them next to each other.

However, I'm interested in interesting redecos, and that Megatron definitely looks like one.

 

Who’s buying this RED Primal just to upgrade your transforming Kingdom Primal with the badass swords?

 

Well, the Megatron figure is exactly how I pictured it would be.. Translucent & mostly purple with predictable grid lines on it, & no interior pieces to speak of. Just a shoddy paint job while packed with the same old accessories. Like, they couldn’t have gone the extra mile and painted up the figure with battle damage & left the parts of him with the grid lines as is so it at least looked like he was transitioning into Galvatron..? Don’t get me wrong, the normal Megatron mold looks great, but this is just a straight up translucent re-release with half-assed detail, I was hoping for more.. It’s not a wonder why I don’t care for this line save for a small handful of figures. The Primal figure is also a disappointment, by comparison the actual transforming Kingdom figure is better.

But it is what it is I guess, to each their own. If these figures are your thing by all means, this is just my opinion on the matter.

 

I hear stores can get very cold at night, it's a good thing these two figures will be there to warm them.

 

The ONLY series in RED that justifies it is TFP and especially Arcee given the nature of her design and her deluxes had huge backpacks. But they couldn't even get THAT right as the paint job is completely wrong, has soft plastic that is warped out of packaging, gimped articulation, and useless accessories like the wrong energon cube and pointless gun hands.
