I've already acquired a couple if my grails, one being an unmodified G1 Megatron, however theres still a lot of G1 grails I want including G1 Jetfire, Defensor and if it's possible a G1 Deathsaurus. As for more modern figures I wanted a Titan Omega supreme who I recently acquired, but My biggest modern grail would be Haslab Unicron, but sadly I cant afford it due to how insanely expensive the thing is.
My grail is Cybertron Leader Optimus Prime. Been searching for years for a complete one for a reasonable price to no avail.
My grail, believe it or not, isn't a Transformer. It's actually a Soul of Chogokin GX-44 Tetsujin-28. And, no, I haven't acquired it yet.
My personal grail is, and likely will always be, unacheivable: a complete Operation Combination Battle Gaia, so I can own every release of the G1 Combaticon molds. I just don’t have a few grand lying around to blow on one. Non-toy related, I REALLY want to own an original G1 box art painting. I don’t really care which one, I just want one. I saw a few pop up for auction years ago but none recently.
Which you yourself did with G1 Unicron for many years, going by your first post. Wasn’t being petty, just pointing out the similarity.
G1 Megatron, Starscream, and Grimlock - 3 figures I have wanted since 2nd grade and only recently was able to procure via re-issues (Grimlock is a KO which was good enough for me).
My grail from when I was a kid was G1 Fort Max. He had some prominent appearances in the comic and was awesome in the Rebirth which I had on well-watched vhs tape. Unfortunately his toy wasn't released in the UK, and even if he had been I doubt my parents would have spent that much on one toy. Took me just over 2 decades but I finally got him MIB in 2008 from eBay.
Growing up with the Unicron trilogy, pouring over the pack-in comics/cross sells from Energon and the pack-in planet maps/cross sells from Cybertron, I had several grails from that era. I bought them all (Energon Sabre Mini-Con team, Landmine, Scorponok, and Tidal Wave) at my first TFcon for under $200. The next year, I set my sets on Cybertron Megatron and RID Landfill, and again bought them. This cycle of attainable grails being sought after and bought in less than a year continued for a while with CW Liokaiser RID Megatron, and Alternators Smokescreen, then I started hunting after custom projects like my Classics Dreadwind, Rack n' Ruin and 2007 Clench. But again, I have all of them now. Mission complete. after the novelty wore off, it took a few months to figure out that desire has a value. Collecting isn't a destination for me, it's a journey. Now, I guess my grail is Cybertron Menasor complete and in good shape for about $60, but that will take time and I'm in no hurry. I'd love an Ironfist and Rotorstorm that fit my budget and tastes, but those will probably have to be custom projects. EDIT: Siege Magnus. for the right price, it shall be mine.
I love Trailbreaker and try to get any version of him that comes out. If they get around to him in MP form, it'd be him all the way. As for toys that exist, I always wanted the original Punch/Counterpunch, but his POTP counterpart has me content
*Looks at where Lyzack, Esmeral, Botanica and a full bodied Nexus Prime would be* .....nope. Not yet.
I've gotten a few in recent years: Botcon Dreadwind. Took me 12 years but worth it. Device Label Optimus Prime. I love the G1 Prime mold but not the head so I was glad to get DL Prime with the remolded cartoon accurate head. All four G2 Stormtroopers. Kabaya Weirdwolf Kabaya Mindwipe. I love how they scale with the Diaclones and G1 Scorponok. Oversized Korean Bruticus Some grails were negated with newer versions of the character: Selects Bugbite replaced E-Hobby Bugbite. Much better figure and only cost me €20. Botcon Treadshot replaced the Gun Robo that inspired the Actionmaster. Earthrise Elita-One replaced the Botcon figure. SS86 Jazz replaced the Encore version. There are still many grails I want including: 4 figures I had but the molds are ridiculously fragile: G2 Electro Device Label Ravage DL Tigatron DL Cheetus Most of the exclusives of recent years have been rendered grails due to their ridiculous prices: Siege Skywarp Both sets of Selects Seacons Titans Return Twintwist Titans Return Grotusque Earthrise Prowl Either Fortress Maximus The Siege of Cybertron box set featuring Metalhawk and the Thunderwing Titanmaster. Can add the Masterpiece Seekers, Artfire and Star Sabre for the same reason. Several Botcon figures I still want: Deathsaurus Tigatron and Cheetor repaints of Clocker. Rattrap repaint of Ransack. Fireguts Ginrai Olin Zarak and Scorponok Ruckus from Off Road Then there are those seen in fiction based on existing toys: Sureshot repainted from Titans Return Full Tilt and Chasm. IDW Hooligan, Nacelle, Spacecase and Wingstun all based on the Siege Seeker mold. In the words of Simon Furman: "It never ends!"
I feel your pain for Twin Twist. It took me over a year to find a semi-affordable figure of him and Misfire on eBay. Grotusque is great - definitely my favourite of the Monsterbots. I bought the Grotusque/Repugnus two-pack for £60 right before stocks dried up. And of course I had the foresight to pre-order the Seacons because I knew they would be hard to get later. I just wish I was as clairvoyant with Runabout.
My dream figure was MP Optimus Primal but I had him since day one. I am also super satisfied with the Kingdom line so my wants for BW MP have diminished.
I’m very happy with my collection but I do hope for an MP Armada Starscream with a red energy sword and his minicon. Oh, and a shattered glass MP Hotrod, and more MP fembots
Mine was always an update to Doubledealer without a partsforming chest piece and not having to "unlock" his transformation. What we got with Earthrise is perfect, in my eyes, plus we got the cool faction swapping in bot mode. He's everything I want in a Doubledealer
