Hello again, it's been awhile since I posted a big custom, so here's the most recently completed one, Generations (technically Cyberverse) Action Master Gutcruncher. The idea of this guy came about for two reasons: The first being I saw that $20 deluxe Cyberverse Megatron on clearance for $10 on Walmart.com and figured, I can make a custom out of that. My original idea was to do an updated G1 Guzzle from that mold but after thinking it over, Gutcruncher came to mind. (Btw if anyone wants to use that Guzzle, go for it.) The second was man, we need more updated Action Master figures and as a fan of those designs, I decided why not and the order for Meg's was placed. So here was the process of making the leader of the Decepticons into a early 90's tank man. Artwork of Gutcruncher via the TFWiki. Out of all the transformers customs I've done, this is the most heavily modded of the bunch not including paint and such. Modifications included: Filling in hollow gaps in the inner thighs with apoxie sculpt, adding 4 pieces of Pla Plate to the chest to replicate details on the original G1 figure, figuring out a way to mount Meg's fusion cannon to the right shoulder area, giving him a slight height extension with some more Pla Plate, and giving him a new head. (Which ended up coming from a Sun Faded/Smoke colored 2010 Wheeljack.) The shoulder cannon actually fits in between a gap in the shoulders and it so happened to fit so that was nice. As for the head, Wheeljack and Gutcruncher have a similar head sculpt besides a few small things, so I ended up removing Wheeljack's ear pieces and soul patch, goatee? to make it more accuarate to Gutcruncher. Along with that, I had to add apoxie sculpt to the exisiting neck joint so Wheeljack's head can fit. After all the mod's was the painting which had one issue, what color to use for Gutcruncher's chest? I don't own the original Action Master figure and going by pictures online and artwork, it seems to be either orange, yellow, or a combo of the two. In the end, I ended up going with Orange as that's a color I don't see too often used on Decepticons and Green + Orange is a solid color scheme. So after 2-3 weeks of on and off work, a few mistakes, and waiting for the weather/humidity to clear up so I can paint, here's the final result: Overall, despite some of the mistakes I made with this project and while he is a bit rough in some spots, I think he came out looking pretty decent. I will post pictures of his alt mode sometime this week and as a side note since I forgot to mention this before, I did put a Cartoon Clean Decepticon symbol on his chest in a similar spot to the original figure. Thanks for looking at my custom, any questions and criticism are welcomed, and thanks for reading.
It would be great to get new versions of Omega Spreem, Windmill and Turbo Master. Thundercracker, Rumbler, Circuit, Axer and Prowl would be great, too, IF they make their exo-suits their new alt modes. And transformable versions of Banzai Tron, Bombshell, Tracks, Take-Off, Powerflash, Jazz and Rollout, as well, all WITH their Targetmasters, especially the ones that turn into helmets. And great work there Can't wait to see the alt mode pics.
That rules. Y'know, shitty as Funpub is, this is a reason I miss Botcon toys. They were willing to utilize molds Hasbro wouldn't touch for weird repaints. There are probably lots of cool characters we could get from the Cyberverse deluxes.
Over-Run would be great, but Banzai-Tron is a close second to me. If BT, he needs his crab/partner/gun.
I voted Other. I want them to make modernized transforming versions of every action master. And throw in the pretender inner robots too.
Thanks to everyone who voted, commented, and looked at my custom Gutcruncher. As promised, here's some pictures of his tank mode along with a comparison to some other action master fellows I have lying around. While he is a bit short, I'm fine with it since he scales decently with Generations Warpath which I find appropriate. As for tank mode, I decided to add color to the two triangles up front to give some more color to the tank mode. While transforming him from tank mode and back, there was a paint chip or two but nothing major. As a side note, a lot of good suggestions on which Action Masters should have an update by Hasbro. To throw my two cents in: I'd like to see Skyfall, Banzai Tron, Powerflash, and Slicer get an update the most. Although in the case of Skyfall, not sure if that would happen because of how much his G1 Design is a mix of various Gundam designs, so not sure if Bandai would like that very much. Anyway, thanks for looking, all questions and critiques are always welcomed. Thanks for Reading.
That looks fantastic. I voted for Thundercracker because thanks to a cameo in IDW1, he and G2 Ramjet are separate characters to the originals. We may see him as a Shattered Glass toy, hopefully repainted from the Siege mold. I would love if Hasbro released the cancelled Actionmaster Botcon set at retail, especially Skyfall and Sprocket. I also like the upcoming, non transforming Banzai-tron. I think it's third party.
Ooooh. I like it! I would really like to see the Action Masters get more love from Hasbro. Some of those designs were so cool.
Great work! Both modes look sharp and the mold selection was really intuitive. My pick would be Skyfall since the others have gotten modern takes already and he has a cool color scheme. The closest we’ve gotten to Skyfall is probably Energon Windrazor(?) because of the sculpt and deco.
That's brilliant, and I'd love to try it at some point in the future. Sometimes simple with well-placed tweaks works better than anything else.
