While I definitely agree, I don't expect its something we'll see any time soon. Like I mentioned earlier, Hasbro really seems to want to stick to the Evergreen designs to keep the brand uniform. Especially in the last few years. I expect its going to take a lot before we see Megatron being a purple and green batmobile again, or a green deer antlered tank. There are definitely benefits to the brand being less well known to the general public, and one of the big ones is an ability to experiment.

Hasbro doesn't want someone casually tuning into a new show and seeing the leader of the Decepticons be a big white space ship shaped like a goose with a Galvatron crown and shoulder cannons.

But that's my read on the situation. Hasbro could announce a Armada Megatron update tomorrow for all I know. Or a new Animated Series with a Megatron design thats totally off the wall.

Did Megatron ever do anything in tank mode as good he did in the movie where he takes out prowl and friends in gun mode? Until that happens I think the gun mode will be more memorable (to me atleast) In the new WFC show he never takes out anyone in tank mode always misses

While I get wanting to keep the brand uniform in some way I'm just worried about the way Hasbro's going about it right now. Mostly because of how trying to stick to only one consistent look and take is only going to take the brand so far. Because if they stick too much into keep things uniform and not enough on thinking up reasons to help keep it fresh, will only make things boring, at best and at worst bring the brand into stagnation.

Besides it's not like they can't keep the brand having a uniform look as well as give us other versions of the character in at least Generations where it's supposed to be about being more then one era of Transformers at the same time. Kingdom especially proved that it's possible to have both ways along with from what the rumors have told us the next trilogy continuing what Kingdom brought us.

I'd rather Megatron keep a semblance of a consistent design than having him swap alt modes like phones every new iteration.

The only thing thats memorable is how useless his alt mode is on his own.

See, I think the solution to both of these issues is to get creative with characters. Megatron doesn't need to be the only leader of the Decpticons. Give us Deathsaurus, give us another new Overlord!

I have no idea why some series can have 2 or more autobot leaders at once (Mostly Optimus+ Magnus) while Megatron is always stuck as the only decepticon one, with Starscream+ someone else as the second in command.

So as I understand it, Hasbro sees the leaders as Optimus Prime and Megatron. I expect it goes back to being burned by the reception to Rodimus Prime back in the 80s. You see it clearly back in the Unciron Trilogy days where Hasbro would let Megatron get an upgrade to Galvatron, but it was always a temporary thing. He was always back to Megatron at the start of the next show. A permanent change in leadership is off the table.

To be fair the point of an "Evergreen" strategy isn't for **US**. The point isn't necessarily aimed at existing fans. The point of an Evergreen strategy is to establish core, recognizable and marketable looks for the next generation and on.

I mean Hasbro is already doing a fairly good job of giving us new things even if more tends to be on the G1 side. Given how good the brand is as a whole I do think your fears are unfounded. People are still buying Transformers. They're still doing it world wide and no one cares THAT much as a whole that Megatron or Optimus looks the same. You can guarantee that there's kids that didn't get last year's truck Optimus who can finally get this year's truck Optimus, for example.

When we talk about line stagnation that's only really for fans who've been in for a long while and new looks or not everyone has the point where they evaluate whether or not they want to continue. It's just the natural cycle of collecting and as long as new blood keeps buying in, things will be peachy.

Don’t mind Megatron as a tank but seeing as we’ve got tank Megatrons with G1 inspired robot modes, I think it’s time we got more faithful(mold-wise) G2 Megatron updates with tank chest and all.

It's the police looking bad for shooting like wild west rowdies.

BTW. How about a submarine mode for Megatron ;)

I'm not at all sick of tank Megatron...I'm sick of the SAME tank Megatron over and over. Give us Armada or G2 (ok, especially G2) profiles...not just a forced paint job, a full body shape...Armada with his hip cannon and shoulder treads...G2 with the giant shoulder cannon and tank front torso...just no more tank Megatron trying to look like the bot mode of gun Megatron...

I'm fine with tank-like forms instead of fictional gun props based off of WWII-era hand pistols, but I agree with some others here that it doesn't have to be the same kind of tank all the time. (Though as a G1 collector I like it when the robot looks kinda like his G1 self, at least in terms of the head, basic colors, and arm mounted cannon.)

I always thought it would be cool if Megatron turned into an armored Hummer or something. I remember someone once posted this image as a possible inspiration for a Megatron...

I think u Mis-remember that scene. Starscream takes out prowl and friends. Sure he becomes the gun, buts it starscream that had the accuracy’s and pulled the trigger. Except when megs finished prowl off in bot mode with his more powerful arm cannon. The only reason he ever became a gun in the show was to remind kids that he could transform and what hi altmode was, other than that he really had no reason to become one of his subordinates weaponry.

Hasbro says whatever they think NPCs will believe.

This thread just elicits a sigh. Some people are just never happy. They didn't like the pistol and now they don't like a tank either. I'd bet real money that after their ADD is appeased, with the next Decepticon leader being a wicked kangaroo or badass guitar or whatever, price would replace it as the supreme boogeyman. Might be time for people that don't actually like TransFormers to go on hiatus.

While I'm not tired of tank Megatrons, just G1-derivitive, that's not the question, so I'll just say no, I'm fine with Megs being a tank. Though I wouldn't be opposed to him being different things, though one thing I'd like to see is a new version of the Classics nerf gun Megs if they could find a way to make it work, possibly by making it similar to the Prime Wars Megatron's gun mode and be compatible with other CHUG figures, but not exactly something that could be held like an actual gun by a person?

I already mentioned this idea in another topic, but it is definitely relevant here.

I think they should make a Megatron toy that's G1-styled in robot mode, but transforms into a truck instead. Think something along the lines of his DOTM incarnation, a gritty, Mad Max styled bruiser. And he could be hauling concrete tubes or something to that effect, but in robot mode, they turn out to be his fusion cannon. And, for the toy, you could take those tubes, and assemble them into his G1 toy battle turret mode.

I actually think a truck mode would suit Megatron alot better than a tank would. Yeah, a tank WORKS. It's sensible. But personally, I think it feels a bit uninspired. But a truck? Trucks have weigh. Grunt. I mean, storywise, Megatron's supposed to have originally been a pit fighter, yeah? And he rose to power by presenting himself as a people's champion, right? I feel like, thematically, a truck feels like it makes more sense in that context. It's like a blue-collar alt mode, but one that will DEFINITELY wreck you if you got in a fight with it.

I also enjoy the idea of Megatron and Optimus having a much clearer parallel in alt-mode.
