Not gonna lie, I fucking love the G1 cartoon soundtrack. While I find that a lot of tf shows have pretty subpar/generic soundtracks, something about the sunbow show's music just clicks with me. Sure all of the tunes are pretty short, but they are catchy/memorable as hell. Best G1 tracks (excluding the theme songs) https://youtu.be/7ReJKv3xdU8 https://youtu.be/wAEB0khCSic https://youtu.be/8phT10cja0s https://youtu.be/e-uiUURbWQ0
Guh! I really like the soundtrack and you made my night by posting those videos. I've been looking for what I thought was a Decepticon theme but is actually called Heavy Metal War. That song gets me going every time! This and the GI Joe soundtracks are the best in 80s toons imo.
I feel that the G1 soundtrack is under rated as a series in season 1 granted season 2-3 took a lot from GI Joe which I felt enhanced season 2 especially with the instrumental ver of Cold Slither
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the season one score. It's kinda bland IMO (though I also find the first season to be pretty bland as well). However, the orchestral score of season two and the synth score of season three are just vast improvements and really added a lot of excitement to the episodes.
I'm sad most of season 3 soundtrack was not present on the vinyl. I love the soundtrack, but season 1 sounds too much like a 70s show, where every song sounds like something tragic happened. Best example the ending song of incredible Hulk (although I like the song. But it sounds like you should be crying while listening to it). My favorite songs of G1 transport the feelings of glooming doom by sudden deception attack, or the wonder of exploring unknown underground areas or the distant past of cybertron, the empowering feeling when returning to the Autobot heroes home, the immediate urgency to act, etc. And they are catchy. I can remember the melodies and see images of the cartoon in my mind. I vastly prefer that over generic soundtracks these days that just create a certain atmosphere formulaic by being so generic you barely notice music is playing. But I dislike the rock songs of the G1 movie.
its funny because the 70's influence on the season 1 soundtrack is exactly WHY I love it so much haha. Early 80s with a tinge of the 70's soul is my wheelhouse for sure
I really like the G1 soundtrack. I haven’t watched it in a long time but I still remember bits and pieces of it. Way more than most anything else I’ve watched. So yeah I think it’s pretty good.
Very memorable. That goes for both the pre-movie and post-movie seasons as well as the movie soundtrack itself (talking about the score without the songs, though love the songs of course too).
I loved most of it from the pilot. I wasn't as impressed with the GI Joe music shared with G1 Seasons 2 and 3.
For me, the best tracks of the G1 soundtrack are these (mainly season three and four stuff, and these really cement my preference for those seasons over the first two, because they really brought an extra level of thrill and excitement to the show, whereas in season one, I always found the blandness of the soundtrack kinda matched the overall blandness of that particular season)... My favorite of all the G1 themes. This was used to great effect in my favorite episodes of the whole show (Ghost in the Machine, The Burden Hardest to Bear, The Dweller in the Depths and The Rebirth) as well as the G.I. Joe movie: Second favorite theme. This really is a nice tension build-up theme used quite well in Dweller in the Depths, Rebirth, Big Broadcast of 2006 and Grimlock's New Brain: This theme was used to great effect in some sequences of Rebirth and Call of the Primitives (and it was also used in the Secret File for the cities), but came into great use in the scene in Ultimate Weapon, where Magnus and Rodimus take down Vortex and create a distraction for the Stunticons (hence the title): This one played in various moments in The Rebirth as well as Sky Lynx's "Suffer my rage" moment: This is a really memorable theme, since even though the title alludes to Trypticon's entrance in Call of the Primitives, I remember this theme more for being the theme played during the climactic battle between Fortress Maximus and Scorponok: And without this theme, I don't think the reveal of Scorponok at the end of Rebirth Part 2 would have been as great: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZWbTOQQrvqg
One thing I remember thinking when watching Series One as a nipper in the 80s, was that there was always something from the soundtrack playing at all times - either incidental music or one of the main themes. I don't think there was ever a moment of silence with no part of the soundtrack playing.
That was actually typical of shows back in the day. Every show seemed to have music running non-stop in every episode (I guess the people in charge of the shows thought it helped the pacing, but again, this is just me guessing).
