Unironically I think Optimus would've turned into something like this if the Bay movies went on.

A fire truck is the most obvious choice, though there's part of me that's surprised he hasn't been a construction crane yet. Granted, those are probably a lot harder to market in red and blue...

 

Prime as a tank to duel with Megatron...both Megatron and Primes as trucks or...Prime as a tank and Megatron as a truck (reverse roles 'gasp')

 

Yeah, that's the second go to choice.

A Garbage Truck.

Hear me out, Optimus is supposed to be the everyman who is burdened with a tremendous task that he always has to be there to do. He has to be an alt-mode that kids can see and understand what it is, he should be something that not a lot of his troops also have as an alt-mode. At this point, Optimus will likely always be a truck of some sort, so that they can preserve the visual cues as much as possible for Robot mode. A garbage truck, unlike a firetruck is something that kids see all the time, that they understand, and many boys think are some degree of cool. This also means that with some engineering and budget, Optimus' alt mode could also do more than just be a truck (with or without a trailer) and could have some neat storage or working loader, giving the franchise centerpoint added play value. To borrow a phrase, he'll do more than roll as rolling things should do. Having an alt-mode that can pick up trash (or Decepticons), or even "gobble up" accessories would add play value.

It also gives the designers a ton of options, they can have the whole toy convert into a robot, or have the garbage storage part detach for a more traditional Optimus robot mode and do anything they want with the storage part, a trailer like system, weapons and armor, or whatever.

Animated Wrek-Gar and RB Salvage, along with an add-on to Cyberverse Grimlock all have it, so Hasbro knows there's some value there for an alt-mode. Fun little story; the very first Halloween after I moved out of my childhood home, the first trick-or-treater was wearing a home-made costume to be a garbage truck. I just think it's an ideal alt-mode even if it would meet with severe backlash at first.

 

It's cooked up by the Micromasters in the back. Fresh stuff, not like the lab made food paste Bill Gates wants us to eat.

 

The real question is what kind of food are we talking about? I'm thinking tacos.
