Just a quick snap

 

A long time ago when a friend saw my collection, Star Saber was his favourite MP even though he had no idea who he was. Mostly because he has a cool design and looks like a Gundam. I still have MP Starsaber but it's always a challenge deciding where to put him since he doesn't really go with anyone else.

That background never ceases to amaze me. Just out of curiosity, how'd you put it all together? For some reason I imagined colored tape on a black surface or spray painting with some sort of grid stencil but I can't really put my finger on one...

I totally understand if people feel differently, however to me Masterpiece Grimlock holds a special place in my collection/heart (if heart is the right word). As I started collecting masterpiece transformers back in 2005/6, Masterpiece Grimlock was the first Masterpiece that to me represented the character perfectly in both modes.

The original Optimus and Ultra Magnus (MP-1 & 2) were cool but even back then both modes were off to the g1 cartoon model and didn’t represent a true Optimus and Ultra Magnus to me (I mean you need the carrier/armor).

Mp-3 starscream and subsequent skywarp and thunder cracker were really cool with awesome f-15 modes but (colour aside) they looked cool in bot mode but weren’t a perfect match to the cartoon character.

MP-5 Megatron had a cool gun mode but was way off in robot mode.

Grimlock meanwhile to me had a perfect Dino mode and I thought his robot mode was excellent. He scales even better now with MP-44 Optimus. I remember opening the box on 2009 and being so blown away.

While I get that some people don’t like him or think he’s not up to standard for looks compared to cartoon accuracy of guys like MP-44, to me he holds a special place as the first to look perfect or close to it in both modes. Many argue, and I think Takara says, that MP-9 Rodimus started the new aesthetic/direction for the line. To me, it started with Grimlock!!!

Thank you man! Yep, it's black cardstock with neon label paper that I cut into thin strips. Unfortunately it's getting a little battered but I plan to redo it on all new shelving at some point anyway...

 

Which version of the MP-12 mold holds its guns the the best without needing to anything to tighten up the connection?

Of the cartoon-based designs I think it oozes the most character and might have the cleanest sculpt.

 

Nah that toy is still awesome to me. Even if Takara makes a new and bigger one, I doubt it’ll be able to pull off the integrated gimmicks to switch from toy and cartoon looks like MP-08 did. Fun toy to fiddle with as well and the deco is great to me.

 

Grimlock scales better with MP-10 than with MP-44. But even standing next to MP-10, Grimlock is too small. Grimlock should be taller than Optimus Prime. MP-44 is even taller than MP-10. I love Grimlock as a character and MP-8 did look good, but I hope they'll redo him in the right scale.

 

   

i guess when looking at height, grimy would scale better with MP-10 but I think width/girth wise he scales better with MP-44. Mp-10 has much wider shoulders and a bigger chest in my opinion.

Glad I got my Reximus Prime... takes care of the scale issue.
