Damn, welp I won’t expect much. FunPub was able to use the HISS II years back so that was a mold confirmed to have been reclaimed in working condition over a decade ago. Shame Hasbro never reused it after getting it back.
I didn’t want or need them to make these but I didn’t struggle. As soon as I found a suitable place to order from, I did minus Duke. If your main reason not to get them is because you’d rather have ones made by Hasbro in a similar style, I think that is valid. Anyone who doesn’t think Hasbro will eventually make Sunbow style figures is kidding themselves as long as things continue within the current status quo. It just might be a long wait but to me, that’s a good thing if that’s what you really want. For the Cobra Commander debate, Chromedome is his field/battle helmet. When he is kicking back, who would want to be stuck in an enclosed helmet the whole time? That’s when he uses the hood. I don’t need kick back versions of my action figures because I use them for action play and display. Don’t need to play house with them and pretend they are watching TV and sipping mimosas through their hoods. Because of this, Battle Armor Cobra Commander is the only other version I want.
Mine too. I never found the character problematic. Maybe there is something there I am totally missing but if there is it went over my child mind. And still does.
Same here. In my opinion, his representation and characterization in the show were nothing but respectful. I would hope he’d be considered an icon.
Ok so we don’t know why Hasbro told Super7 why they can’t make a Cobra Commander with a hood yet. It’s best to wait for more clarification as to why before this continues further into discussion about Auntie Jemima for example.
The outfit did lean towards racial stereotypes but I think that was outweighed by his characterization which was brilliant. He was focused, mindful and more then a match for frickin’ ninjas! as far as a wishlist goes I want to see Spirit Shipwreck Alpine Bazooka (‘cause can’t have one without the other) Lowlight
I thought the hood was stupid because it seemed so impractical, like a short gust of wind or even leaning over too far would take it off. The Terror from The Tick has the same setup so it never struck me as anything but "mysterious evil ideologue." Anyway...the 2nd run Firefly I ordered from Target arrived. I would have to echo some other posts that suggest maybe they hurried this batch through or something. He's painted fine but many joints are looser than the average ML figure I'm used to dealing with. Design-wise, I'm a little disappointed he can't hold the dynamite and that I'd have to cut the vest off to remove it (and I'm guessing the camo paint doesn't continue on to the torso so that would be a double bummer). But still not a bad figure for the $20 or $23.
I tend to think S7 is our only hope for a classic ARAH Shipwreck outside of any retro reissue. A Classified one would probably have a robotic flying drone instead of Polly and a uniform based on either the modern sailor digi-camo with symbology from a different branch of the military(I think that’s what happened with Classified Gung Ho) or look like a SEAL; none of which match the iconic 80’s look. While I don’t mind the eventual SEAL version which was released at the end of the Battle Corps line, the 80’s look is much more memorable to me. I just think the Classified version(if they ever get to it) will opt for the Battle Corps, DDP or 50th anniversary looks. I’d be pleasantly surprised if it’s in line with Barbecue and Breaker, closer to the ARAH V1 looks.
I dunno that they could get the HISS II in the same size box/price point that retro has been using. I like the design, but never much cared for the original's color scheme. I have the convention one and a custom one that's just flat black with the same red bits. I think it looks more like a natural progression of the original HISS; I'd love to get an official version like it. I'd also take a repaint/retool of the DTC HISS as a "III." It was cool to get a blue HISS back in 2000, but calling it the III was lazy AF. Then we got it again in 25th. Gimme a Crimson HISS with retro box art, a black HISS with the Arctic HISS missile turret or the new laser turret used for the SDCC green/TRU orange one. Just...anything other than another regular blue HISS.
They should just make a new bigger box and price point for it. $30 is justifiable since it’s bigger than the HISS I and does more. 1st one able to transport multiple figures within. There was a retooled one with a new door that looked more like a door but was cancelled. I’d love to see that one finally released. Oh yea that one I’m counting on. I like their approach, modern yet recognizable.
That would suck. I know the Village People jokes that are tossed around but all of these specialists doing their own thing is part of the charm. If I wanted a bunch of mooks with the same clothes and haircut, there are a dozen other Nation Army Force Brigade knockoffs out there.
How far are you stretching the fingers? Mine has two gun grip hands that don't look like they'd open far enough to palm it. If I put the fingers in the peg hole it looks like he's carrying a lunchbox.
I'm not. There's a slot on the dynamite that is designed for slipping the fingers into so he can hold it.
I can completely understand why if you pull Spirit out of the context of GI Joe he can be seen as a stereotype. But every character on the show was a stereotype. You had Cowboys and Sailors. The whole show was intentionally over the top.
I'll bet that they can do it. I agree that Hasbro probably won't make an 80's Spirit to be stocked on WM pegs in Classified, but I can see them allowing S7 to do it for a collector-oriented line. Hasbro understands the difference between adult collectors and kid-friendly retail. That's why all the scantily-clad ML females end up as SDCC/Pulse exclusives. Heck, even Hasbro put a Spirit-esque character, complete with braids and fringe, in the ML Alpha Flight amazon box-set. They just didn't put it on store shelves for the Karens to stumble upon with no context.
