I’ve always been a fan of Josh’s artwork, and I always will be, because it’s great.

 

To paraphrase The Critic Jay Sherman, “If you keep praising bad comic books, they’ll keep making bad comic books.”

I’ve not read the commentary that you have but this still isn’t a good book. I know good writing and art and this doesn’t have either. Nothing against Josh though; the colors are great. But it’s akin to getting a professional to color a toddler’s colouring in book.

 

I try and try, but I just can't acclimate to this artwork.

also, I feel when putting the hurt on Waspinator is actually making you feel had for him, the one drawing it has very much missed the point.

 

Tarantulas’ exposition was really painful.

 

I will admit I got a chuckle out of Waspinator getting beaten over the head with his own arm. (Maybe it's a prelude to him getting blown to bits like usual LOL).

 

I see Dinobot\'s taking a page out of ROTF Optimus\' book!

 

Dinobot be like:

 

"Hey Waspinator, take a knee!"

"I always said you had a disarming personality!"

"Time for you to shoulder the burden!"

You didn't think we could have a piece of Transformers media without a quote or reenactment from the Holy Text, did you?

 

No not really

 

I feel so bad for the artists who were given the privlege to do art for transformers; and the overwhelming community says it is objectively bad, with some passionately wanting them to be fired. That has to hit hard; and Bad.  I really do feel for them: they\'re trying something new, and they\'re getting blasted for doing it.  

Maybe cause its not new enough? Maybe it needs a new continunity; Something original for the franchise.  But no one would really enjoy it if the art still isnt appealing to the community..  

I don\'t mind it; Its certainly no masterpiece, but its not Bad.  Just different.  Maybe our standards are too high, can\'t be entirely blamed for it.  We did have some fantastic artists.  All I hope is that these artists improve either really fast; Or maybe study after their work with this comic carries onto the next artist eventually. So when and if they do come back, they\'ll be doing something true to their heart, but more accommodating to the general populace.  Cause we cannot appeal to everyone. Especially the diehard zealots, never can, never will. 

 

Sludge\'s pop-up eyes are back!

 

I said that about a set of covers a few months back. It was a gut reaction after seeing those covers, but thankfully didn't call for anyone to get fired. Anyway, the art in this preview is by Casey Coller, he and Guido Guidi are actually my favorite artists. So no complaints here, other than that I would wish they could do a main series or ongoing '84 comic or something. Anything that would give us their art on a monthly basis : )

 

The art reminds me of the old Marvel UK comics, only cleaner and lighter.

This is an artist who cares about getting things exactly right and doesn't put their own unique aesthetic twist on character designs. No dumb trashy redesigns, no exaggerated proportions. The Transformers look like they stepped right out of the 80s, which is what I want to see more of.

On the comics sub-forum, I've gained a reputation for being the "complainer" but thats only because IDW has been putting out crap stories and artwork lately. I'll praise them when they do something I like and the My Little Pony crossover, is surprisingly one of those times.

I'll take boring over godawful artwork.

I'll use the Masterpiece toy because its accurate to the Beast Wars TV show and I wanted to show his head at this angle. Optimus Primal's head in the comic page below is what I call godawful. It just is. I really hate how stupid and dumb the overly tall mohawk is. And Dinobot isn't that much better. After five issues of Beast Wars, a return to the 80s cartoon aesthetic is a much welcome breath of fresh air.

 

To quote Jay Z, "If you like G1 so much go watch that instead of complaining that the new stuff isn't ""Accurate""".
