Here is my question on the gun megs debate... okay, Voyager and Leader and Deluxe are out.

...why can't he be a gun in Core Class?

No one will believe that's a real gun. Is it purely a "You are selling a gun to kids no matter what?" thing? A "We want consistancy" thing? A fear bootleggers will just scale it up?

We've gotten for the transformers figures themselves Megatron as a gun (non transforming) so why not Core class? Feels like a good compromise.

    I have, actually!

How many times has it been used in a violent crime?

Because let's be clear... THAT is why Megatron-Gun is banned.

So if there is a rash of criminals committing crimes with a tiny gun... or Tommy Pickles robbing stores for Reptar bars... then that has merit.

No, the question is not "how many times has this been used in a violent crime?"

The question is "is Hasbro confident enough that if a child is playing around with their toy and someone calls the police, will the police immediately be able to tell that it's not a real gun, or is there a realistic chance that they might shoot the kid dead just to make sure the kid doesn't shoot anyone first?"

That risk evaluation is the problem, not actual crime statistics.

Its really immensely depressing how many people are willing to wave the potential damage and harm to kids just to get a gun megatron.
I get it, tanks get old, but drop the damned gun issue. It is not going to happen. Move on.

MP Megatron can be a gun because it's made by Takara for the Japanese market where the sensibility about toy guns is different than in the west.

True, but they're well aware that these will end up in the western market. It still falls on the consumer to not be an idiot with their toy gun-robot. I'm sure if someone in Japan was waving Megs around in gun mode in the middle of town, their police force would react the same.

Do you know what happened when Masterpiece Megatron was released? When American imports stores such as BBTS and TFSource were required to modify the toy and glue an orange cap onto the end of the barrel, even though it was "intended for adult collectors"?

All your wishful thinking for a Childhood Accurate(TM) modern gun mode Megatron will not make any of this go away.

I'm sorry. The way things are now, you cannot get an official new gun mode Megatron from Hasbro that's not at least ten percent unpaintable orange plastic, and doesn't even look remotely like a Walther P-38.

You can scream "adult collectors" all you want. Hasbro is a toy company. Hasbro's primary customers are parents who buy toys for their children. They can make the most adultest of adult collector toys with a giant "18+" label that covers the entire front of the packaging. They're still a toy company.

I understand that you really desperately want a new gun mode Megatron toy. I understand that you are very passionate about reliving your childhood for one reason or another.

It won't happen, at least not without massive caveats that will cause all the G1 purists to revolt because HOW DARE HASBRO ADD A TINY BIT OF ORANGE.

You are not the center of Hasbro's universe. The amount of shit that caters to our fanbase these days is nothing short of astounding. But there are, and always will be, limits.

Hasbro is more concerned about children potentially getting shot because of a Hasbro toy than they are with giving you a modern gun mode Megatron. It's just a question of priorities.

So don't be G1 accurate. He can certainly transform into an orange/green hunting rifle which are already on store shelves under adventure force. The ones that occupy an entire shelf just a few feet from the transformers. See how that sells and then go from there.

My 5 year old likes gun Megatron better than tank Megatron too.

We have to keep in mind that crime rate in Japan is one of yhe lowest in the world. It's entirely possible that a kid being found with a Megatron toy by cops in Japan would lead to a completely different outcome that in the US.
Anyway, as a G1 fan Megatron will always be a gun in my heart, but I understand why Hasbro had to change it. I think the tank is the best alternative since it a.lows to keep in both mode Megatron's signature fusion cannon which is in my eyes the most iconic part of his design. Incidentally, today I just received the core class Kingdom Megatron which is my first tank Megatron figure.

It makes sense and I am 100% with you on the fusion cannon. I much prefer the tank to any sort of jet or anything like that since a tank just fits Megatrons attitude. He isn't so much a free flyer but an unstoppable force.
