Despite the abundance of evergreen Megatron toys these days, I almost never buy any of them. Why? Tanks, tanks tanks! I am so sick of seeing G1 Megatron portrayed as a tank time and time again. I can accept that for G2 Megatron, but that's not how I remember him in the cartoon. Even if Hasbro won't deign to revisit a gun mode, there are plenty of alternatives from Megatron's history. What about an attack chopper like his Animated counterpart? What about a stealth bomber like his IDW design? Hell, I'll even take the Batmobile like his Cybertron toy. ANYTHING other than a tank!

It just needs to be something unique - a mode only fit for Megatron as leader of the Decepticons, just as Prime's unique 18-wheeler marked him as leader of the Autobots. If Megatron transforms into a tank, he just blends into the likes of Brawl and Blitzwing. It's so unoriginal and it's high time for a change. Anyone else share the sentiment?

While the idea of Megatron as a tank isn't a bad one on it's own I agree that it's pretty tiring seeing the same exact design for him being used over and over again with little to no difference at all in current years. There's basically no real variety with him anymore. Likewise with many other G1 characters. If they're going to do more tank Megatrons I prefer it if they used any other tank Megatrons that aren't just using the G1 design since we basically already got a definitive G1 Megatron update in WFC for better or worse. Such as Armada Megatron who really does need a modern update or heck even a Transtech Megatron if they get bold enough.

They did produce a deluxe megatron with a jet mode during Thrilling 30.
And the megatron during TR was a triple-changer.
    Robot/tank/jet.
I think he just looks more g1 megatron as a tank than he does a jet
With gun mode forever off the table, tha tank will stay the fallback standard.
    Alien jets work though.
    Prime, animated, bayverse.
    Anything is possible.

If Megatron's not a gun, then he's not Megatron. He's an imposter! A sad, pathetic imposter. Shame on him.

Why can't they just make an orange barrel gun Megatron?

Yes. Hasbro found the perfect alt mode for him to retain his iconic robot design.
I'm sure they're all too eager to give that up.

Megatron as a toy in gun mode doesn't scale with other transformers in bot mode as per the portrayal in the cartoon & comics, it can't as mass shifting is fictional in this context. The blemish of basing an 80s character off a toy not the other way round.

Becoming a canon/gun for the other decepticons sort of makes sense in the comics/cartoons, if not a tad illogical. After all, no one tells megatron what to do yet he surrenders to being held, controlled and fired by lesser decepticons.

Being a stand alone canon like Galvatron made much more sense.

Being a hand held toy gun for humans but a shelf size transformers figure makes no logical sense whatsoever in any continuity.

Thus megatron as a tank or interceptor space ship is the logical alt mode.

Masterpiece Megatron exists to wholly represent G1. Beyond that Megatron is better served is a standalone alt mode like a Tank, Interceptor, TRex, Dragon etc.

Then the answer is to give him a new robot design.
Cause seeing the G1 design over and over again gets old.

I think there's a bit of Megatron fatigue in general, though I understand the particular exhaustion over the tank mode. I do wish they had hung with the stealth jet look a bit longer because I LOVED that departure (and am excited to see it getting an upgrade via Generation Toy later this fall).

Megatron should transform into a sack full of doorknobs that Rumble can swing around to take people down. It'd go well with his accent!

Wasn't this was an early WfC budget & scale constraint? Megatron & Prime had to start off at the voyager price point. A jet/interceptor mode would have no doubt ended up at leader class to give any substantive mass.

At least we have BW Megatron for some variety albeit at the leader price point.

Because if the police shoot you while playing in the street with an orange-barreled Megatron, Hasbro is still going to look bad.

I share that sentiment. I will always prefer Megatron as a gun. Problem is, there really aren't any alt modes that are unique anymore, even Prime's 18-wheeler is copied by Motormaster and Thunderclash. And as for guns, there's an army of Targetmasters that copy that alt mode, so it's not unique anymore either. We're nostalgic for a simpler time...

I don't have an issue with Megatron as a tank, because it's more realistic than a gun and doesn't deal with mass shifting, which is silly.

I liked what they did in TF Animated where he transformed into a Helicopter. That show should have gotten more love and seasons. Such an underrated continuity.

I’ve always wanted a Megatron that turns into an artillery cannon like Galvatron.

Maybe Singularity Unicron should briefly return and eat every Megatron from every universe and series and canon and fanfic and there will be no more Megatron for the writers to rely on. They'll have to either create something new, or elevate an existing character into a new role.

The tank is fine. The gun was stupid.
But I’m cool with a jet or helicopter mode too.
