He's the other guy that'd be a fun Core figure. Let's speak both he and Injector in to existence, hmm?

Compared to Unicron? Absolutely. Unicron got a shout out in TLK, and has been featured in cartoons outside of G1. (BW, Prime, UT)

Star Saber was in IDW, but outside of there he's a niche character even within fandoms like this forum.

Unicron had name value to get people's attention, as well as the spectacle of the figure itself. Saber will likely need to sell itself less in name value and more on the coolness of the figure itself.

Hence why Leo as a stretch goal could be a huuuge motivator. That's another cool/unique looking TF and the combination gimmick will really make for an impressive display.

Just a Japanese show(which is actually a glorified product advertisement) who got a Masterpiece version produced. Yup. Some nobody. If that's a nobody, I wonder what a "somebody" would be like? An Ultra Mega Masterpiece figure?

I think the difference in popularity will be offset somewhat by the difference in price.

Kunio Okawara designed Star Saber, as @Fafnir72 pointed out. If people here knew their mecha history more beyond Transformers you'd see how much Star Saber was influced by the Zeta-era of Gundam stuff.

The last three projects for haslab went 3x plus on pledges to fund. I think speculation plays a decent role in that. Even 10% is 2000 units out of 6000 that were required to fund. Does Haslab preannounce the stretch goals? I don't recall, if they do and flat out say 10k units you get this guy also, that will push units as well.

I guess no matter what it's a crapshoot, but the last few funded so fast that I think Hasbro has dialed in the price point and bonuses that drive funding.

From a fan poll only Japanese fans were really taking part in. Also all Tranformers shows are glorified product placement.

Yes. But in terms of name recognition Star Saber is low on the list.

Which is not knock on the toys or the character, it's just the nature of the Japanese shows compared to the stuff that came out in the US and Europe.

Hell, my two faves are Getaway and the Seacons but I'm not going to fool myself in to thinking those guys are some kind of titans within the franchise.

Buddy. Star Saber a nobody:jawdropper: ? He got an all but sold out MP figure released based on just the JP market vote. And the MP series is technically, for all intents and purposes for the JP market.

A "Nobody?" I cite the free market result as a counter argument to him being a "nobody".

It's so weird to see a multi-billion dollar company trying to crowd fund a product. Yeah, I get that Star Saber is a more niche character in the west, so he's obviously not going to sell millions, but they really don't have the confidence to do a simple limited run of the figure? They could have done a simple limited release of 1000, then if they sell out, another 1000, then another if that sells out, etc.

I know, I know, these companies only care about profits at the end of the day. I still think they should feel bad for having to crowd fund anything.

Absolutely. But I think the lack of name recognition is the main reason I think they're doing it this way.

I believe with the Sentinel and Razor Crest they announced one tier at a time. So as each one was cleared they reveal the next.

I still think it's possible they'll follow the HeroQuest model and make it a money goal instead of a backer goal.

Then they could offer a Star Saber tier and a Victory Saber tier. Offer one at $100-150 and the full package at $200-250. That way people who want Saber don't have to cough up quite as much and people who want Leo aren't trying to game the system and potentially rescind support on the final day if that tier isn't reached.

Speak for yourself. I'd love a Really Useful Combiner.

This isn't taklab. This one needs to sell itself to the global market, also MP Victory Leo was never made. And all MPs are for Japanese fans first and foremost.
