Bit the bullet and opened my incorrect shoulders copy from Amazon and did the fix. It was scary, but we made it through unharmed! Luckily I had a nylon tool that was very similar to the one that's recommended. After that, a few minutes with 91% alcohol made him smudge-free. The ankle smudges came off almost instantly. I didn't repeat the mistake I made with Siege Megatron and made sure not to accidentally remove the Decepticon logo.

This guy is great. Everything about him is better in hand than in photos. I had a lot of concerns from the early pics but almost none hold water when you have him in hand. I still think he's a stretch as a Leader Class figure, but if that is what it took to get the best possible G1 style Galvatron, then fair enough.

Used a $2 thumb scraper (mini spatula)
and snipped a notch out for his shoulder fix. Didn’t need a screwdriver except for popping it back on.
That turning the screwdriver sideways tip was a big help. Made it alot easier to go back on.

Got my misassembled one today. Honestly prefer the round pin showing over the rectangular hole. Will especially be better once I get a filler for them.

One thing that stood out to me was that his eyes appear to be orange, rather than red.

We're sure, because there's a panel indention that lines up perfectly between the joint and the shoulder when assembled correctly, while the incorrect joint has a panel that pops out, not in.

Also, the correct assembly changes how the alt mode sits.

    Just a few quick addendums:

    1. I've found that the adapter plugs into the backs of his thighs in the screwholes in cannon mode (at least on my copy), which from most angles hides it rather well.

    2. While they're both prototypes, my close friend 3D printed off a smaller cannon for me, which I think looks a lot better than the oversized one we got. We went out today and I bought him a reel of "Twinkling Gold", translucent orange with gold flakes in it that I think will make a really good cannon. With the Selects version, I'll probably do an all black and a translucent black to be like the early designs as well as a translucent gold one so I have options.

Only have metallic grape on me, will do the other in toon colors.
You could prob just dip the whole ship in grape then throw details on it.

When he was first announced, I had my misgivings.
Photos making his head look too large.
    And that dreaded battle damage.
    Barf.
And then when it starts appearing, the bad shoulders.
But I ended up being genuinely surprised.
I got lucky and found a correct shoulder version on my first try.
And now, after 3 weeks, I finally worked up courage to clean off the battle damage.
Was worried I would, with my shaky hand, accidentally remove decepticon logo.
    But it survived.
And I must say galvatron is excellent.
    Ony peeve is the matrix.
Wish it was on real chain, not preformed plastic.
    Otherwise, awesome galvatron.

I had bought the incorrect shoulders version a few weeks back only to find the corrected one earlier this week. But instead of returning the messed up one I suddenly felt the need to do the "fix" on it and managed to pull it off. Its absolutely a pain in the ass and I did make one small stress mark (I was able to remove with a heat gun). I dig this guy enough that I don't mind have a second copy to have on my desk at work so I guess this kind of worked out.

I will say though, as much as I dig this guy - the hands are a disappointment. They are awkwardly sculpted and really at this point point we should be always been getting the articulated hands we saw on Voyager Hot Rod and Leader Optimus. That POA really needs to be standard on leaders and its one of my only sore spots with Grimlock as well.

After getting him in hand, I prefer the original lower sitting shoulders. I tried both configurations and found it looks awkward sitting higher when “fixed”

Definitely the best Galvatron we've ever gotten, but there are enough flaws here to warrant an eventual replacement.
Like the TR version, I'm annoyed that I had to "fix" him straight out of the box. But wow does he look a lot better than that figure! The headsculpt is really good, the proportions are much better, and I absolutely love the translucent orange cannon.
But still... There's something that feels "off" or "unfinished" here..
For $50 (and some potential elbow grease) you'll get a great stand-in for the next 4-5 years. But why do I get the feeling there will be a better one down the road?

My friend printed off 3 "Gold Twinkling" cannons for me (With filler, no filler, single thickness) to test out and see what I prefer, and no filler is the winner IMHO. Looks great! There's some transparency and lots of shininess in hand.

I find both ways have their issues. The lower position has the wrists lined with the bottom of the crotch, which is more proportionally correct (for humans at least, which is but since the G1 Transformers are very humanoid in shape, it makes sense), but the shoulders are lower than his neck, which is wrong there. Sitting the shoulders higher then makes his arms look a bit more stubby, so I can see why some people prefer that setup.
