Rodimus Prime! The toy and character that unifies the fandom is finally here.

Vehicle mode then, and he does protrude too far out at the front, but I don't care cos he's a mobile home with flames painted on it and sports these big fuck off exhaust pipes for.. reasons. It's stupid and it always has been. Like something a kid who turns into a sleek sports car with flame decals on the hood might think he wants to be when he grows up.

Therefore, this is essential. Careful what you wish for, boy.

Literally trying to escape that trailer, or so it seems (it's a sturdy connection). Don't listen to them, Prime! You look great.

As you can see, Rodimus runs primarily on the blackened hearts of Optimus Prime fanboys.

Smaller Deluxes will indeed fit inside entirely if you take out the cannon emplacement.

Actually quite fond of the Hot Rod on steds car form. He's hanging onto his youth there. AND THE INEVITABLE STANDALONE RELEASE. I see you, John Hasbro. I see you.

Still, one bath in blue light and he's instantly too old for this shit! Even though technically he's still only a young man. That Matrix is overrated. Growing UP is overrated.

Ah, but what's in that caravan? A big old blast of who gives a fuck, that's what. FOREVER YOUNG!

Happy to say that Rodimus Prime is an absolute treat. Gorgeous looks, poses like a dream, solid as a rock. Plus he pisses people off no matter what. It's all a win in my book, baby.

    I love this toy.

Does anyone have the issue where the trailer never fully closes up? I’ve cycled between 2 copies and it seems to be less of a QC issue and more of a design issue. F706C0AA-F3C7-46EB-88B9-45F10DECE849.jpeg

Same. I have to massage it, together with the ramp, to get it to hold together.

Try flipping the blast panels on the cannon the other way around when stored in the trailer. As far as I can tell there’s only one way they’re designed not to interfere with the cannon base bending a full 90 degree

The question is, why was Hot Rod being sold as a voyager when he was more a deluxe?

I’ve tried and it’s still not working. I think the front tabs just don’t have enough pressure, because the front part seems to have a slightly bigger gap than the rest of the tabs

And just to head off snarky "well then cut the accessories and sell him as a Deluxe, then" comments, it doesn't work that way.

The base figure's parts count and density is significantly higher than what the budget allotment for a Deluxe-class figure can afford. The extra accessories just help the toy not look so chintzy at the Voyager price point due to its small size. The accessories aren't what bumped the figure up.

This is the same reason for why Earthrise Astrotrain is a Leader Class. Sure, he's only average Voyager height. But he's way thicker and denser than any other Voyager, and got priced out of that size class. But he's a bit too small to properly fill the next size class up, the Leader price-point. So he got a giant pile of extra accessories to fill in the gap. No manner of accessory cutting would have dropped him into viable Voyager range.

Yeah, the quality isn't the same, but if you want to talk parts count and total volume of plastic. Commander Rodimus isn't even close. Plus each of the vehicles in this set has lights, sounds, and firing missiles. Something Hasbro thinks adds $15 to any retail price.

Yeah, it's a knockoff GI Joe set. You get three vehicles, three figures, a gun emplacement, and enough accessories to outfit an army of real GI Joes if you got them. All for $20. The figures really are crap, but for a kid at least it doesn't matter if you break them.

There really isn't any justification for the price of anything Hasbro.

*big shrug* That's apples to oranges IMO, I'm willing to bet that the plastic quality alone is vastly different. But even if it's the same plastic you're talking about molded shells essentially with very little to no engineering, etc. that goes into any TF figure, lights and sounds aside (lots of KO or other cheap toys have lights and sounds).

And if you've handled SS86 Hot Rod vs. most other contemporary deluxes you can tell by the heft that there's more plastic and moving parts in HR compared to those contemporaries. Does that and a few more accessories than average equal another $10 for the figure? I think so, but that's up to the individual and there are other recent options for the character that you can probably get second-hand if one would so choose. But they don't nail the on-screen character design the way SS86 does.

Same with Rodimus, the core car mode is incredibly dense and there are a TON of moving parts compared to a current Leader figure, has a bonkers cool transformation, plus a much bigger and more detailed trailer than Leader OP. He's a chunk monster in hand for sure. Is it worth $80? I think so, but he's right on the fence there. He's certainly not worth more than that. You can always vote with your wallet and I can totally understand if this crosses a line for any collector's budget.

Also having said issue. I may try rubber banding the trailer doors shut for a few days and see what happens.

Another also, don't open the trailer while the car is plugged in. That would be an instant way to chip the yellow paint off the spoiler.

    Ebay:
Just opened mine and I too have the same problem. The front grey tabs don't seem to clip in securely enough, preventing the 2 halves from completely coming together. Such an eye sore in vehicle mode and a disappointment for the price. I'll play with it more tomorrow, but not a good start.

OR, if like me you prefer big figures, Power Of The Primes Leader Rodimus is an acceptable option at HALF the cost of the Commander

If there was any doubt what an afterthought the trailer was, the fact that it's nearly a foot long, has 20 peg holes in it, BUT CAN'T HOLD HIS SWORD OR FOLDED GUN is hilarious and so bad. With the gun's double pegs you can't even awkwardly stick it anywhere else! It does fit onto one pair inside but that only works if you put the cannons on top which is uggo. And yet, there's a drawer for his black smoke? So weird

Edit: I noticed the rear handle on the gun is EVER so slightly longer than the front, meaning out could mount it on top of the trailer's center hole without it going wonky.

I'd say that shows the gun or sword were the afterthoughts.
