It's a ok. The only thing I don't like is how every seeker shares damn near the same face

 

I dislike the tiny head and his face, but I think Blitzwing looks good.

 

At first I thought that his face was kinda weird looking, but now I think it looks great

 

Eh, it's alright but I prefer Blitzwing instead. His head design has a much better balance between Bayformers and G1 than Starscream's. And I know this'll come off as a pipe dream, but I do hope they give Starscream a new head design and colour scheme, preferably Armada.

 

Only complaint is the face/head but we don't even get a good look at him the movie for more than few seconds so that's just nitpicking on my part.

 

Would prefer the Bayverse design overall, but I'm open to this except for the face. Don't mind the body. Can look past the red and white on a military jet. But that face puts me off.

 

I voted bad, here's why:


Left to right: G1, BB, some Japanese fan art, IDW, Classics

G1
The most "normal" or "human" proportions. Arms and legs all connect where expected. A classic design but definitely has lots of room for improvement.

BB
The legs are too long. The legs attach very high up on the "hips". The feet have little snail eyes on them and are not sleek. His "bell bottoms" end too high up, they should continue down to match the feet.

The arms are too long. The arms are too thin. His shoulders are far too wide apart and are a little bit too high up. His forearms slope down to his hands making them look like claws.

I do like his torso, but his overall proportions, posture and silhouette need to be a lot sleeker.

Some Japanese Fan Art
The proportions are quite exaggerated, but this achieves the "long legs + short torso" look much more successfully than BB. This is a bit too Gundam for my tastes though.

IDW
Again a more successful long legs + short torso design but with more muted overall proportions. Some great design touches and dynamic proportions and I think is a good interpretation of Starscream (shame the toy is is awful).

Classics
This takes the G1 look and proportions and brings it into the modern age. Great proportions and bulk, not overly "anime"-styled. For me this is the best of the five.


Final Thoughts
I really, really dislike this trend of "alien, therefore insect" or "alien, therefore ugly" or "alien, therefore spiky" or "alien, therefore messed up proportions and posture". Starcream and the seekers are supposed to be sleek, elegant, aesthetic, dare I say beautiful (it's partly why Starscream has so many fangirls).

In isolation the BB design isn't too bad, it's just that compared to even amateur fan art of Starscream he looks like gangly hunched over spiky troll. Why can't we have nice things? Why can't any modern Transformers look aesthetically pleasing and have traditional proportions?

 

bumblebee has my favorite seeker designs, with that said the head they went with doesn't look that great but to be fair im pretty sure it was a super last minute decision (especially since trailers suggested it was suppose to be blitzwing) and much, much prefer the cool gas mask face of the the rest of the seekers

 

It's fine as it is. Have all the Seekers/Coneheads be F-4 Phantom IIs. Simple as.

 

Starscream's design was a rushed edit of Blitzwing's 3d model for a last-minute fan service scene, Blitzwing was a gigantic brute who throws Bumblebee around like a rag doll and is generally menacing. The more "big bruiser monster'' proportions make more sense when you put that into the context, I'm sure that the proportions would've been more "fancy" or "agile" if the character was designed to be Starscream from the get go.

 

That is a very good point, and I do prefer the look of BB Blitzwing over BB Starscream.

It shows how with some little tweaks this design can look so much better.

 

It's perfect

 

It was OK for its one second of screentime.

 

This was a well thought out, and detailed answer.

 

Thing is, those four are either for comic books or animation.
Having something work in live-action kindof requires a higher standard.

 

Initially I thought it was pretty good other than the head, but Sikkusushotto pointed out a lot of other issues that started to bug me. I still think it's a decent design, but Blitzwing looks better, and Bayverse Starscream is a more realistic take on the character. I'm hoping they fix up the design for future movies.

It's leagues better than monster Starscream from 1-3. The bot mode is fine. The jet mode has some issues. I picked "ok" since it could have been better and, like someone said above, wasn't a rushed adaptation of Blitzwing's character model.

I will say that if this had been Starscream in 2007, there would have been far, far less bitching.

 

I think most of the issues I have with him don't affect the suitability for "live-action". Making the legs a bit shorter, giving him proper hips, making his arms a bit thicker, having fingers instead of spikes and placing his shoulders slightly closer together wouldn't affect his panels and detail and general art style.

I think the F-4 is fine as an alt-mode. It's a shame Hasbro wasn't able to get a good likeness for the toy.

 

Maybe it's because I may or may not tend to be partial when it comes to little details.
