I've always wondered why folks in this fanbase seem to have this expectation that, while the rest of the franchise is creative, the live action films have to be completely faithful to the G1 cartoon. It seems like fans even had this expectation for the 2007 film, and it came out after the Unicron Trilogy wrapped up, and 11 years after Beast Wars started airing.

Not to me. If anything, I associate Jazz with the Pontiac Solstice. I'm not joking when I say that, every time a pass a Solstice, I immediately think of Jazz. However, that doesn't mean I now expect Jazz to transform into a Pontiac all the time. Jazz was a Porsche just one time and that was 35 years ago. I don't get why fans (and I'm not talking about you specifically. Just wanted to point that out) think the quality of the movie completely hinges on what these characters transform into.

 

I'm curious, what would you guys want Jazz to turn into besides a Porsche? Personally I think a nice super car in red white and blue would do good too depending on which vehicle it is

I love this new look for Mirage. I find it funny how a majority of the people are complaining about Mirage being Porsche instead of Jazz. I believe Jazz was only a Porsche in G1, and I feel like his vehicle mode in the 2007 movie was way better for him. 

 

God, image if they never announced any characters and we saw this Porsche. We would be screaming Jazz! like it's bloody murder, and then just get cucked with a "Surprise, it's Mirage!" reveal. There would have been riots in the streets.

I honestly haven't even seen the BB film so I can't say I care too much about this one yet since I'm not invested in a second movie continuity. But if this is a sign that Porche is now willing to be part of Transformers this gives hope of an actual MP Jazz finally and that's exciting (and hopefully an MP Stepper after it). Of course I look forward to whatever toys the Studio Series or other line puts out of a new Porche bot as well.

And you can be a part of a fandom and be critical of some stuff. The original message I was responding to was someone who was complaining about how bad the site is for people saying that the dialogue of one page, if real, was cringey.

I mean, people were literally just discussing if it was real or FUD, and a dude comes in crying about us, and now you're tripping over yourself to defend it.

Saying that one page has bad dialogue is not toxic. Hell, this entire site is not toxic, and I am someone who has plenty of critiques about it. I just don't go around telling everyone else to feel bad for having an opinion different from me.

And before some smooth brain goes "but what about your behavior here, hypocrite?" Once again, if someone hates the website, or the people who post on it in general, then yeah, go ahead and leave. If you have different opinions than me, and don't like some posters or rules, that is completely different.

I am not saying that you should never criticize the place, I am saying that if people very mildly criticizing a single page of a script is enough to make you crap your pull ups and whine about how the entire site is bad, you're probably a better fit for seibertron or whatever the Transformer equivalent of ResetERA is. And if you don't know what that place is, it's a video game forum that is run like Soviet Union, and they will literally unperson you for your opinion on XBox or Sony.

TLDR;
Coming in and whining about everyone for mildly disagreeing with you isn't having an opinion, it's trying to shut down everyone else's.

 

It almost feels like the fanbase is getting worse about this again. When I first started using this site regularly (around 2014), I myself was quite the picky "everything has to be like 1984" Geewunner, and I recall receiving more pushback than support. It felt like there was a general understanding that the Transformers brand works best when it evolves and changes, and it was mostly a matter of people debating whether or not certain decisions were a step too far (like Optimus killing humans). Whereas now people seem to think of Transformers more like Marvel, where everything has to default back to the "definitive incarnations", and that the success of modern Transformers should be judged based on how close to its origins the brand can get.

I personally feel like some "healthy geewunning" is fine. Like, I totally get someone being uncomfortable with their childhood hero tearing Decepticon spines out, or even something like making Bumblebee mute. I think it's fine to want Transformers to honor its roots and remain true to the classic characters...I even think some consistency in the characterizations between incarnations (and even some visual consistency) might be a good thing. But too far in that direction results in everything looking like Evergreen and the boring Netflix show. It could also potentially result in laughable stuff like a Formua 1 racecar driving around the streets of New York. To me there's a big difference in wanting respect for characters and stories you love, and in quibbling about unimportant things like which car manufacturers go with which characters.

 

Anyone else find it strange that they won't have Jazz be a Porsche, but Mirage will be the exact car that Jazz was with a blue stripe and all. Seems like they are saying that "we could have done Jazz that way if we wanted to, but we won't so there (middle finger)" just to mess with people.

Jazz was a silver car in 2007, so a silver Porsche would have matched his aesthetic and size from the Bay movies.

 

I agree with that. It's just funny that they picked G1 Jazz alt mode for Mirage with Jazz Bay color instead of blue (G1) or red (Bay films) if Dino is Mirage still.

 

...so what, are you saying I just imagined that the Unicron Trilogy happened in the mid-2000s? The brand didn't need saving, all them movies did was catapult them to a higher level within mainstream consciousness. Otherwise, it had the cartoons and was doing very well, certainly enough that Hasbro was able to experiment with catering to the adult collector market with things like 1:24(ish) scale licenced vehicles for Alternators. The idea that the bayverse saved a franchise that was already making millions of dollars already is absurd and just shows a refusal to acknowledge that the films weren't as important as a certain narrative would want people to believe.

It's almost like people want recognizable brand icons and not shit crammed into vehicles paraded around in a car commercial or something.

Out of sheer curiosity, when was the last time you even saw one of those? Those things were rare as hell even in 2007. Pontiac going belly up not long after didn't help.

People want Jazz as the Porsche because that legitimately is the one he is most commonly associated with, despite not being the only Porsche, as it heavily influenced his robot mode due to the transformation (as opposed to Cliffjumper who often is misremembered as being a Bumblebee repaint back in 1984 even though he's a separate mold, this not being helped by actual official releases of Bumblebee and Cliffjumper in each other's colors and that's how we got Bumper, and Nightbeat is remembered more for being a Headmaster detective more than his alt. mode given most of it is not visible in robot mode.) Most of his major appearances after G1 are based on that design, no less, so arguing that he was only a Porsche the one time is a flawed argument when ALL designs aside from the Pontiac solstice (and even a variant of that got a G1 version!) are derived directly from the Porsche incarnation.

This is made worse now that we know there's a blue stripe down the middle...EXACTLY LIKE G1 JAZZ. There's TWO of these cars so it isn't simply bullshit like what happened with AoE Drift originally going to be orange...until that car got sold so heaven and earth got moved to color him blue instead...and then THAT car got sold so they changed him AGAIN to a different car altogether.

Ultimately, we just need answers as to what the hell the creative decision making was here, but obviously we're not going to get that and so by not making it Jazz, Paramount's already stepped in some bad PR doo doo.

 

The people who would have been that mad already hate the Bayverse anyway so why are they even watching one in the first place?

Hell, why are the people this mad about the change in general even still talking about the Bayverse? Didn't you all jump ship after Bee peed oil on John Tuturro?
