Bummer. I know what you mean though, my hand brushing sometimes never matches up with my airbrushed paint too. - I know I said I'm never getting another Real Grade *Zaku* but it doesn't stop me from burning my wallet on a 4th of July discount sale for something Zeonic. .... If we're seeing the Hi-Nu's Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher, some legs just for show are inevitable.
Okay well, this is all wrapped up from the torso up. Just primered the lower body. The entry grade Gundam is honestly shockingly good, especially for a $7.50 kit from Target. Anyone have suggestions for painting some perfectly straight stripes across the leg? I was probably just going lay down my base red, then mask off stripes and paint over in silver.
Getting better with this homemade acrylic wash using it like I would its enamel counterpart, just apply and wick. While the excess doesn't buff off as easily without solvents, a little thinner is enough without damaging the paint. The ammo for the bazooka, the details down the side mostly disappear but the wearheads and nozzles will be seen. My green wash over the metallic colors really shines better than I expected but it disappears on the dark clear blue parts. I have about finished the handheld weapons tonight. The beam sabers are done atoo, but I put them aside without photographing them. The shield turned out nicely although seeing through the front side and looking at the posts and vacuous space is a little distracting. I did apply silver to the back side of the short missile rack so the part's clear red so it won't stand out. This is one of those areas where paint will make a difference on the original version of the kit because I don't want to paint the lattice underside with the Clear Nu's shield. I since went back and painted the forearm clasp for the shield with silver to keep my panel pattern going. Meanwhile, I have an idea for painting this kit differently from the original version. For the clear version, the vents are coated in gold and painting these same spots in silver for the original. The last bit of work on the knee pistons had one minor setback, when my small supply of paint in the paint pan was too diluted. This is a first for me too in that I didn't have to bore out the piston sleeves.
My 1yo Great Dane did a barrel roll on the 1st and twisted her stomach. She had emergency surgery at the University of Georgia Vet that night. I got her there in time and she had no permanent internal damage, but she has to be cared for like the princess she is 24/7 until her sta plea are removed and she can be returned with my 2 other Danes. So it’s been pretty much a no go on my MG Barbie that came in last week. Only have the head done so far. But the kit is amazing it’s going to be so much fun to build. I also saw these two come up for sale on Galactic Toys: a hguc Wing kit and Sailor Moon Mecha you know your boy Dirty had to pick em up. The future misses is going out of town next week so I plan on going hunting Monday. I saw a ton of Leo’s at hobby lobby last night near closing and kits are 40% off this week then I’m heading down to Hobby Town in Atlanta to see what they have (I know it’s in Kennesaw but I’m from north Georgia and everything past Buford is Atlanta).
Oh yeahhhh. What a legit joy to build. Long shot but Bandai has to make all of the base Wing Gundams in RG form. Anyways I put off these projects but I gotta finish them. Doing a repaint of an SDCS Zaku I and my MG Dwadge.
It really is a gorgeous kit. Where did that nice sky blue base plate come from or did you paint that?
I wish I thought to paint up a plate in that color, but actually it came from the HG Soryumaru kit. Souryuumaru (HG) (Plastic model) - HobbySearch Gundam Kit/etc. Store Unfortunately the base adapter that plugs into Wing Gundam is only compatible with Action Base 4 and 5. Was irritated at first but then I remember I had the Soryumaru stand being unused. While I get they want to push the new stands I think it's sad that they've more or less abandoned the AB 1 and 2s. I still find those bases a better and less aggravating to use than AB 4 and 5s.
Agreed. I much prefer AB1s/AB2s over AB4s/AB5s. AB1s in particular; since I primarily focus of 1/100, AB1 is more suited for that scale. I know the packaging for AB4 and AB5 say that 1/100 is compatible, I'm not sure I trust my 1/100 on that arm...
RG Sazabi was on an AB2 for a whole week and, admittedly, put him in a flying forward type of position. Killed the goddamn stand, haha. I just don't trust the AB4/5 arm on something like RG Sazabi even. I share your concerns with 1/100 kits too.
After 7 years we finally have another Z-MSV kit in HGUC lineup. It's a much inferior model compared to the RE/100 but a way better looking MKIII for sure. Got quite a few kits in the past weeks and even a new airbrush but I am just content looking at the MKIII on my desk. Really feel like Bandai cheap out on the wing binders on this kit. They are less substantial and smaller in proportions compared to the RE kit.
Long farm day under the sun, so I don't have much of anything new to show tonight. I pretty much just went over the joint parts I had already started painting with the green glow wash before I get to assembling the legs. The vernier nozzles for the feet, it's easier to keep them on the runner while painting the inner plates so I don't drop and lose them. As always, I'll clean up the wicking stains as I go along.
Update on Lucy the Dane. She gets her stitches/staples out tomorrow and she’s doing good! Today was a good hunt. Behold my stuff.
Gundam Mk. III, it's one of the more obscure designs from a side manga and it really only recently got a kit (online exclusive no less) aside from the rare RE/100 version.
Meeplemart finally got the RG Wing in. Was going to wait until more stuff arrived but seems most of the new things sell out quick, so to pad out the box I grabbed the two Victory SD World guys and that one IBO set with the Graze Ground Type feet and rifles for the Gusion Rebake. I need the feet for a custom and Gusion can always use more guns I guess. There's a lot of good shit coming. Aside from obvious things like the MG Virtue, FRS is doing more Digimon and Kamen Riders, including the first bike which is the Tri-chaser. (Guess I need FRS Kuuga now) There's also a FRS Batman model coming, and Meeplemart is branching out to carry Zoids and Medabots, two model lines I've been sorely tempted to sample for years now. It's awesome.
This is what Clear kits are made for. Building my way up the Nu's frame from heel strut to v-crest. Feet First and painting the major components as I come to them. I've got the knees and hips set on sticks right now. The ankles are loosely fitted to the feet just to line things up. I primed those raised ridges on the heel to paint them silver. same for the bolts down the side of the foot. the gapped panel lines are primed for my green mix, I see how the wash glows when it's over painted and primed areas as seen in the hips. That's what happens when the paint wash is made with a Clear Green for the sake of the clear armor.
