There's more time between this figure and the original Ultra Megatron than there was between the first G1 reissues and the original releases.

Megs was never $20 in Canada. As Msol pointed out, Megas were $21. I'm thinking Archon was right about Ultras being closer to $35.

Too bad, because inflation is a thing, it exists, and it is measurable. Assuming Archon's right and Ultras would have retailed for $35 Cnd back in 1996, that's about $55 Cnd today, however:

It's jacked up, but not absurd. Inflation doesn't account for rising material and labour costs. Hell, just putting the original Ultra Megatron next to Kingdom Megs and they definitely feel like equivalent product, just one is bigger with higher quality construction and gimmicks, and the other is more intricate and detailed with more paint apps.

    In the US, MSRP was:
    $10 Basic
    $15 Deluxe
    $20 Mega
$30 Ultra (I’m less sure about this one, but it was at least $30. Could’ve been $35 or $40.)

As far as US prices go, i remember paying $20 pre tax, for primal and Megatron each at target in 1996. Mega’s were around $15 at KB Toys and deluxes ran from $7.99 at Walmart and target to $9.99 at KB & Toysrus. Basics were around $4-6 bucks, again depending where you went.

the only $40 transformer that came out in that era that I remember paying for was TM2 supreme Class Optimal Optimus, which would have been sometime in 1998-99.

Optimal Optimus was a Transmetal 1 not a Transmetal 2, and it was a Super class toy, not a Supreme. The first Supreme was a Beast Machines Cheetor. Maybe there’s some other stuff you’re misremembering.

    USD Prices for Kenner TransFormers:

    -Basic - $5
    -Deluxe - $10
    -Mega - $15
    -Ultra - $20
    -Super - $30
    -Supreme - $40

Maintained BW/MW through RiD. It was smart pricing that definitely helped market these lines, whereas before TF pricing was all over the place depending on assortment.

I really like the kingdom figure, but the original Beast Wars Megatron still knocks it out of the park for durability wise imo. Concerned that the soft rubber parts on the kingdom figure will be brittle with time. As my original Beast Wars Megatron will out last me.

you are correct on Cheetor being the first Supreme class toy. Funny, though I’m not the only one who remembers Optimal Op being a TM2.

Yeah, I wouldn’t use K-B pricing as any kind of general retail price indicator. :lol

It’s like our fandom’s own private little “Berenstein Bears.” You see people get it wrong more often than they get it right.

Of course, in the late 90s, we'd barely be aware of all of this, since the internet was still in its relative infancy.
