I'll probably get crucified for this but Batman. I get it, he has a cool look and cool gear and a cool car and he's a master detective and a ninja...damn. I've been a comic snob for almost 30 years and my whole life any character, and I mean any character, I have liked someone asks if they could beat Batman. I don't care. People hate on Superman because he can do anything and is super powerful, well guess what, Bruce can do almost anything or find a way to do it and while not powerful, he can think his way through it. He may as well have superpowers at this point.

 

I like Batman but completely get where you come from because people have this tendency to turn him into Bat-God who could defeat a God with adequate prep time.

 

See? You're alright in my book. That part of the character just kills it for me and always has.

This is gonna get me killed but, I find Godzilla extremely overrated. Fans are just idiots who can't differentiate one version from another. They really think Godzilla can beat everyone in fiction, including omnipotent characters.

Everything pertaining to Tanjiro/Demon Slayer. It’s a solid show with beautiful art, but nothing we haven’t seen 100x in shoenens anime. The super devoted fans who go on and on about it’s supposed depth in every comment section (and probably just discovered anime) can really grate on the nerves.

 

This thread may as well be called either "I don't like the fanbase", "I don't understand the point" or "I don't like it therefore its bad". That's very different from a question of something being overrated or not. Disliking/Hating is not the same as finding overrated.

 

Pure objectivity with art is impossible. The whole crux of overrated in this context is "this is popular but I don't agree with its popularity."

The real issue is the people that take the criticism to heart, as if someone's negative opinion of something somehow diminishes its subjective value.

Who really cares if someone hates what you love? It shouldn't bother anyone.

 

Its the internet. We come here to have angry impotent rage over manchild shit because we need to fill the void in our empty hearts because we live in a broken society.

Deadpool. He's kinda funny but way overplayed and all I can think of when I see him is cringey cosplayers at cons using him as an excuse to be dicks. The movies were enjoyable enough but I never had any desire to rewatch either of them and I really don't want him added to the MCU.

Also, Sherlock from the BBC series. Yes, Benedict Cumberbatch's performance is incredible and I know that's probably at least 80% of the reason for his popularity (the other 20% being that he's a dick to characters who are depicted as beneath him, when in reality that'd include you and me and everyone else and everyone would hate him), but the writing went seriously downhill after the second season and they basically turn Sherlock into a literal superhero who can magically figure things out by pulling things out of his ass rather than just a really good detective.

I know Shrek is popular and I still like it but it just appeared everywhere in the last 20 years and it has gotten to the point where I find it overrated.

Here's one for Pokémon players: I know it's a favorite and useful and possibly overpowered and overrated: Kyogre.

When I got Ruby and Sapphire, I liked both Groudon and Kyogre though I prefer Groudon for it's awesome physical strength and cool design, I know it has a major weakness to Kyogre due to being weak to water type attacks and with Kyogre's ability Drizzle, Groudon doesn't stand a chance. Even if Groudon comes out second into battle with it's Drought ability.

Of course there is Rayquaza with it's own game Emerald. But it too falls victim to Kyogre's might. With Air Lock, it cancels out both Groudon's Drought and Kyogre's Drizzle and every other weather status if it enters the battle second. But being an Dragon and Flying type makes it double weak to ice type attacks and with Kyogre's high Special attack rate, it just obliterates Rayquaza with Ice Beam. Even if Rayquaza uses Thunder.

With Mega-Evolution, all 3 become stronger but still Groudon and Rayquaza remain vulnerable to Kyogre's power. Especially Groudon since when it Mega-evolves, it gains Fire to it's type with it's Ground type that gives double weakness. Even with Mega-evolution, Groudon and Rayquaza still don't stand a chance.

That's why I find Kyogre too strong and overrated.
