Nobody would accept Man-At-Arms as a green tiger that He-Man rides.

Nobody would accept Wolverine as a newspaper editor bossing around Peter Parker.

Nobody would accept Mickey Mouse as an angry duck.

You're such a Fellowship of the Ring-ist because you're complaining that Gandalf is a talking tree with 15 seconds of screen time! Naming that tree Gandalf moved the franchise forward, and frankly if that tree was named Bushwald or anything else, the scene where the tree farts on Frodo's head would not have connected with me emotionally.

 

Because with this kind of logic, everyone would be complaining about Nemesis Prime not being Scourge, right until all future Nemesis Primes become Scourge, at which point everyone would start complaining that RID01 Scourge isn't like G1 Scourge. The franchise has such a long history with this sort of thing, that it's dumb to now expect the franchise to regress back to the 80s and ignore everything that's come since.

 

Not gonna lie I do hate that this Porsche isn't Jazz. Would've been nice to see his G1 self modernized. I think this is a great opportunity though to give us new iterations of certain characters. I don't really see the big deal...

 

So because names were mixed up in the past for no reason other than holding on to the the naming rights for the toys, we should just keep on doing it even though we have other, better ways to keep the trademarks these days. That's awful logic.

Give one way mixed up naming makes the movie better.

Because if everything were beholden to the beginning of the franchise, it would be disrespectful to everything that came after. Again, how would you suggest Nemesis Prime stands up to this kind of logic? The original dark Optimus was a nameslap, so by the same logic that all Porches must be Jazz, then all dark Optimus characters must be Scourge. But if nameslaps are also bad, that means Scourge can't be a dark Optimus. So what exactly are you meant to do, in this case? Bar all dark Optimus characters, just because they weren't in G1?

Give me one way it hurts the movie, outside of irritating the fickle GeeWunners, because general audiences, critics and a large number of Transformers fans won't care. In what way does it actually affect the quality of the film?

 

Every jazz has been either a porsche, a porsche lookalike or a silver sports car. The car used is both. For better or worse, a porsche sports car is jazz's definitive alt mode.

 

Ok but imagine his robot mode, what if it took elements from that Transformers Online game that's been dead for a while? Yes this is his classic car mode but still, sword is cool.

Do you even know what Mirage fucking looks like? Or if this version of Mirage acts like Mirage and calling him Jazz would be an even bigger name-slap?

 

At that rate, you might as well give him a formula 1 car alt mode. Far more interesting than a Porsche, and it fits G1 Mirage better.

 

I'm mostly annoyed by the fact it's yet another silver sports car myself. We've had at least 4 or 5 if you count Cogman's Aston Martin alt mode. An F1 racing vehicle on the streets would be a rather poor disguise and draw suspicion, so I get why a Porsche was used instead. Just wish it was blue or a color other than damn silver

 

Why do we directly assume that if it is a Porsche it has to look like Jazz ?, Others such as Nightbeat, Backstreet or Cliffjumper have been various types of Porsches and have little and nothing to do with it. It's also worth noting that the Mirage G1's alternate mode wasn't as low-key as possible either.

 

For everybody saying how Jazz was only a Porsche once, how many times has Jazz actually appeared as a character across the franchise other than in his G1 body?

The alt. mode is more important than the deco, frankly.

 

Be a pretty bad attempt at a disguise tho.

 

Oh, I was actually hoping this version of Optimus would transform into a red, white, & blue dragon and have a very boastful personality.

 

When character is revealed:

"WHY DOESN'T IT HAVE THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE MODE?!?!?! F**K YOU, HASBLOW! #NOTMYTRANSFORMERS"

After movie comes out:

"WHERE IS THE STUDIO SERIES/MPM OF THIS CHARACTER, HASBRO!! I WANT IT NOW, DAMNIT!!!1!1!REEEEEEEE"

Rinse and repeat after every film.

 

I don't hate the fact that he could have been easily Jazz, i just dislike how Jazz overrall has become such irrelevant character in the franchise nowadays. (Not counting comics of course)
That said, there's also the posibility that Porsche knows about the controversial situation going around with Jazz during POTP.

That would be actually cool.

 

Jazz has become irrelevant? Jazz has consistently appeared in mainstream media more than Ironhide has! Ratchet became a mainstay thanks to the Bay movie, Jazz got to be in two shows in guest star roles, meanwhile Ironhide has been thrown to the ether as Bulkhead became the major Tough Guy.
