I'm curious about how the screw improved the tightness of the ankle tilt. Based on what I know about the construction of that ankle tilt joint, I'm thinking changing to screw wouldn't make any difference to improve the friction of that joint. Unless the screw is pulling the post from the ankle joint tighter against the cylinder? Could you explain how changing to screw helped improve the tightness of that joint?

Oh nice, you repurposed those dumb screws from Thomas. I've been afraid to transform him because of those damn chest screws.

I believe that’s it exactly as you’ve said it. Plus some polish in there to create more resistance. I’ll say it again it’s beyond solid now. If it came this way this thread would be a much happier place. I’m happier having spent the five minutes to do this.

@Blingotron yeah I did that to Thomas almost immediately. The nail in this picture is actually what i used on Thomas. I had to cut it to size of course but now the chest pieces slide like they were intended too without being caught on the screw threads causing them to come apart. 17A87AFE-C407-4784-9828-5771780C306F.jpeg

Great job! Sorry but you will be getting lots of questions now! :)

The screw looks to be 0.5625" long give or take. I'm assuming it's the same diameter as the pin? It looks a little larger. The head diameter looks a little smaller though which means it most likely fit well in the counterbore.

Did you need to thread the screw the whole way through or did it only start threading towards the end?

Does the screw head rotate when you rotate the ankle joint? If so, does it look like it's going to wear down the counterbore in the leg? Does it seem like the screw will loosen with time from rotating the joint?

Thank you for being brave and doing it first! I may do mine now. But I will need to buy some screws that fit. :)

@Paco Grande If I don’t take the initiative to fix these things I won’t be happy with the figure. I believe it started to thread on the piece it’s meant to thread into on the foot. The screw head does rotate with the foot back and forth and I don’t see an issue with that as the stock pin does the same thing. The screw is the perfect size. This is why I always keep a little jar of screws around for a rainy day ;)  the wink is cause it poured here in Ottawa today.

Oh yeah! you're the one who used the nails from a wire management staple in Thomas' chest. I have that post bookmarked because I wanted to do it too. Nice.

Wouldn't guessing on the screw size incorrectly completely destroy the post that connects to the foot? Especially with threads? I would think being even a hair off would just rip through the plastic, no?

Awesome. Looks like I'll be doing the same tomorrow. Good to have confirmation ahead of time.

Agreed. Regardless of how minor one may or may not consider Starscreams issues, there's no denying they exist. Arcee, Spinout, and to a slightly lesser extent, Tigtron were all perfect QC and fit and finish wise, so I, for one, was feeling very optimistic for Starscream.

I had to address this, just to put the story straight as it was blown out of proportion back then by both supporters/detractors alike (that first broken mp36 was mine):

1- At that point I've already transformed MP36 twice and is familiar with the process.

2- With that post of the image, I prefaced it with some introduction of how I love to figure out transformations by myself sans-instructions (though i usually did watch some youtube videos before i had mine in hand)

3- Actual breakage was caused by the silencer getting stuck, hard. It shouldn't happen as there literally no way you could slide that thing in wrong, but it did on mine. Did I get a lemon? Probably. It was a normal post to vent my frustration online, not even a rage posting. Since it was actually rare to get bad copies of MP back then, so obviously that post wasn't received well by the more "easily excited" part of the fandom on both sides.

4- Point#3 above was ignored by some overly fanatic TT supporter who decides to ignore everything because TT could never do wrong and instead focused only on point #2

5- Point#4 above gets more attention as he repeated it a few more times, and point #3 gets buried.

6- I did additional posts to show how I eventually fixed the barrel with some pla-plates + screws, still loving it. But as you all know the extreme of both sides, those were all mainly ignored because everyone else was all "TT MAKE GARBAGE!" vs "HURRDURR YOU DIDNT READ INSTRUCTIONS!".

So did that experience made me stop getting MPs? Nope. Still got Hound, Arcee, Bee2.0, 44 and now waiting for 52. Though Hound actually does bummed me out that I did consider stopping MPs, but TT was somehow psychic and knew I have extreme weakness to fembots:lol .

And that's all there is to that story.. Now if only Amiami can start shipping out that MP52 order i paid for 2 days ago.

@AndyPurro i have answered this above in another post.

@gbm yes if the wrong size anything were to be used here it would cause damage. Screw gauges at this size are mostly common. I’m willing to take risks with my figures to improve them. I will be way happier in the long run.

Mind if I check What's causing the issue for the cracked ankles? Or is it just an out of the box issue?

I feel your pain on broken Megatrons. My original G1 80's Megatron was broken in half by my friend while he was transforming it during it's very first transformation. Then his father refused to take me the store or bring it back himself to get a replacement or refund.

I don't care if they have to get a Takara specialist to inspect every one before it gets boxed. Do whatever it takes.
