Things like this will never cease to rub me the wrong way. They get the Porsche license. Jazz is right there. So naturally...

Same sentiment I hold towards movieverse Bumblebee. They finally made him a Beetle, and then they turned him back into a Camaro. Sigh. Couldn't he have at least been a new Beetle?

I don't mind the movie designs conceptually as some do. I loved Bumblebee Prime's design for example, and Bumblee's design itself (even if I still dislike his inability to speak.) I thought that was a fantastic best of both worlds approach. If all of the designs had that same approach, I'd probably love the movies a lot more than I do. Instead it feels like they arbitrarily avoid any consistency with source material sometimes.

Not bashing the films. Not everyone who critiques decisions is just "complaining about it not being G1." I'm a "GeeWunner" who (albeit to varying degrees depending on which film we're talking about) likes the movies for what they are. (And above all, appreciates the amount of revenue and exposure they've brought to the brand.) But it really is very possible to please both camps, at least more than they are. And it feels totally arbitrary when they do this.

Yes, but he still turns into a Porche. And is friends with Mirage. And would provide a potential redeco for this take on Mirage.

 

I think BB turned into a Camaro only because the film was originally a prequel to the Bayverse.

 

Jazz should be the Porsche. Make Mirage a Firebird or Trans-Am or Charger or something like that if they don't want to do the race car thing.

 

It's a shame they don't care about TransFormers. Who else is tired of people preaching and trying to justify what we, by nature of being TF fans, don't like?

 

This is why I'm fed up with the Transformers fandom at his point. Since 2004 everything about the live-action films living up to or matching G1, and at this point I've had enough. People can read this and not care, that's fine, but I'll say this; seeing the film production and people bitching about how it wasn't G1 was a pain int ass all 5 times before in the Bay movies, and now that the films are going full G1 now I expect this to be even more unbearable. The fandom is so so bad that if Jazz had 5 instead of 4 on his body then someone would throw a fit. The arguing is boring and exhausting. How can anyone look forward to anything when there is always that one person who has to shit on everyone else's enjoyment, because heaven forbid anyone enjoy a part of a fandom that they may not like.

 

Transformers' source material isn't G1. G1 was only the first of a franchise that would be different at every attempt. The fact that people assumed that the first live-action film should match G1 was foolish because why would it when every new series before the movie didn't do so? The fact that it was the first live-action movie shouldn't have mattered. But the fact is that adults kept acting like the film was for them, that they were somehow owed a film that lived up to their childhoods when the film's wasn't aimed at them in the first place. Only now is the franchise trying to capitalise on nostalgia.

It's like expecting the new live-action Gundam film to be faithful to the original 80s show despite Gundam as a franchise not being about the Universal Century, but about the franchise as a whole which like Transformers has had so many interpretations.

 

I'm sure it's been discussed. But very curious if this means they finally got the porsche license or if this will be another Dino or Sideways.   

 

Yeah, it's weird seeing so many people complaining that Mirage is now a Porsche. As if Jazz is the only character ever who's allowed to turn into one. And this particular vehicle doesn't even look like Jazz. I understand people getting upset when they change a beloved characterization or even the spirit of the altmode, but it's not like they turned Mirage into a tank or something. They changed him from a racecar to a sports car. It's not some franchise-destroying crime. It's not like Mirage's Formula 1 racecar altmode was even important to him as a character.

One thing to keep in mind is that the G1 altmodes were decided before Transformers was even Transformers. It was essentially a result of toy designers saying "hey, wouldn't a Formula 1 racecar be cool as a robot?" I doubt there was much more thought process put into it than that, because the characters didn't even have names or personalities at that point. Now that these characters have personalities and lore, they don't really need to remain the exact same vehicles. Like I said earlier, Mirage's altmode didn't even relate to his character. It's silly to expect filmmakers in 2021 to be beholden to seemingly arbitrary decisions of toy designers in the early '80s. It's more important that they capture the characters' personalities and the spirit of the altmodes than recreating the exact same vehicle on the big screen.

my guess I they’re going to pull a Days of future past. If that’s the case, the next movie won’t be a bay verse prequel but this and BB movie always will be prequels to both.

You get use to it, or rather conform to it...This fandom(Along with many other similar aspects of my life.) pretty much beat me down to being almost dead inside...It didn't help that the movies also really were awful and indefensible by the end.
At this point I don't even really like Transformers in terms of fiction...For me now it's just cool toys that may sometimes have some nostalgia attached.

On that note, I don't blame anyone being perplexed by "not Jazz" here...Reminds me of when we all saw that seeker character in the preview for the BB-movie, that totally looked like Starscream, but was actually "Blitzwing", of all characters, and then Travis Knight tried and gaslight fans by claiming Blitz always kinda looked like a seeker...No he didn't...He really did not...Fine if you really want to name slap, but don't lie to people...But I digress.

 

You are ignoring the complaint entirely.
The issue isn’t that Mirage isn’t a race car. It isn’t even an issue with him being a Porche.

The issue is the same as it was with Blitzwing.

his alt mode is that of an already existing character. If you want that alt mode then use the name.

mirage can literally be anything but if his alt mode is already established, then you’ve got a problem.

If the Porsche was a new character, it would be much less of a problem.

 

Yup. They were gung-ho on a prequel up until late in the promotion and then they seemed to pivot once it found more success than they anticipated.

But they had to have him turn in to a Camero because if it ended without that people would be even more confused than they were now.

 

In all honesty, I'm not mad that Mirage has a Porsche alt mode. Let's be honest, it's a better disguise than a racing car or Formula 1 racer on the streets. It's just that it's the 4th silver sports car TF we've had in these movies (5th if you count Cogman's toy). Were there no blue ones available? Maybe his bot mode will break up the silver with some blue to look better?

 

I don\'t care who transforms into what. I\'ve put up with Optimus being a cab-over-engine, fire truck, water tanker, bat, and monkey... probably more I can\'t remember. Alt mode changes don\'t really bother me. What bugs me about the Bayverse is how bland and boring the cars and bot modes look. I\'m tired of all the transformers being ultra rich exotic cars no one can afford or see on the roads. Get some regular cars and add some damn color!  Make Trailbreaker a Mazda CX-5. Ironhide a maroon Escalade. Ratchet a real white ambulance. Sideswipe and Sunstreaker can be the Italian midlife crisis cars.
bumblebee can be a fiat.  I don\'t need an exact match to G1, but at least keep the robots and the altmodes somewhere within the ballpark of their name and roles. 

IMHO that\'s where the bumblebee movie was on the right path... but they took it too far with the Cybertron sequences. I love earth mode Blitzwing. He\'s seeker enough for the Geewunners but is new. Bee looks close enough to the old bayverse but tosses in some G1 elements as well. It\'s a good mix... most of all, with Bumblebee movie there is COLOR. We see the outsides of vehicles make up the \"skin\" of transformers instead of just a pile of wires and gears.

I don\'t care who the Porsche is, as long as the robot mode looks like a sentient, living organism and not a rock\'em sock\'em robot.

 

The problem with Blitzwing was that the name was given to a normal seeker rather than a triple changing one that also turned into a tank in a film where both the villains were out-of-scale triple changers.

People haven't even seen what Mirage actually looks like and people are already bitching about the fact that a Porsche isn't Jazz cause he's apparently the only one who is ever allowed to be a Porsche ever despite the fact he was ever only one once in a film where absolutely none of the characters have the same alt-modes as their G1 versions aside from Optimus.

It would be great if people actually, you know, waited to see if this Mirage would have been a good Jazz or if it would be an even bigger "name-slap" if he was called Jazz.

 

I don't ever recall Travis saying Blitzwing always looked like a Seeker. From what I remember from the SDCC panel coverage for Bumblebee, Travis said something like the fans are going to be disappointed to learn that it's not Starscream but it's actually Blitzwing and that he's supposed to homage Starscream or whatever. Though, I would say Blitzwing was a true nameslap as he was never meant to be the triple changing Blitzwing. With Mirage, he's apparently supposed to be the actual "Mirage"—at least, that's what I assumed when Caple brought up his G1 alt mode being impractical.

 

Does anyone know what exact model of Porsche this Mirage is? I need to do a bit of research
