I think this more for the Netflix stuff, since a lot more people have access to Netflix than Go90 or whatever it was called. The fact that the Netflix Transformers series is honestly so depressing and such a letdown.

 

Too bad you don't like new interpretations of the source material that are aimed at people who don't want Joseph Campbell archetypal moralitiy plays and like to see the existence of LGBTQ people acknowledged. That does sound more like a you problem than an us problem, though, because you still have G1! Nobody took it away from you. It's still there. And you still have most of the other cartoon continuities, too. I'm guessing you might want to avoid TFP because of Knock Out and Breakdown, but hey. That's your loss.

IDW fans as a general rule are perfectly willing to acknowledge that G1 was exactly what you say it is, more or less. Some of them may not have any interest in it as a result of that, but there are plenty of people who prefer Bayverse, or TFP, or TFA out there, too. People are allowed to like what they want to like. It's still all Transformers.

For the record, we made fun of Kiss Players not because there was sexual content in it, but because that particular sexual content was legitimately disgusting--nobody wants to see underage-appearing and in some cases actual underage girls get macked on by monsters with
p*nis tongues. Kiss Players is really over the top.

IDW did nothing but acknowledge that robots fell in love with each other in all the known gender combinations and that some of them had transitioned from one gender to another. They didn't show any sex "onscreen".

I assure you there was plenty of fanfiction, including explicitly sexy fanfiction, written about G1, Bayverse, TFP, TFA, the Unicron Trilogy, etc. IDW didn't start that. But you don't have to read it! I can't even link my fanfiction to this board because it's not allowed on the grounds of a fairly small amount of sexual content that is 100% plot-relevant.

And even if I were allowed to, nobody would hold a gun to your head and make you click on the link to read 130K+ of Ravage getting back with Soundwave, taking back the Decepticon movement and returning it to its roots. I don't want you to read it TBH. You're not the audience I wrote it for.

So I don't for the life of me see either how the existence of these comic books or the fanfiction writers and fanartists who produce stuff based on them impacts your life.

It is 100% your choice to ignore this material or engage with it.

Also, I was 20 when G1 came out and I'm probably older than you. I watched G1 and enjoyed it, but IDW and TFP made me a fan because the stories were a lot more interesting to me.

It sounds to me like what you're angry about isn't the fact that IDW exists, but rather the fact that many people, not all of them younger than you, don't want material that portrays moral questions in an incredibly simplistic way or material that expects us as humans to identify with alien characters but refuses to reflect human diversity among the alien characters.

Fortunately (for me, at least), the world is not what it was in 1984, and even then, the show added in more female characters because the parents of the children who were watching the show asked for the toys and characters their kids, especially their daughters, wanted to see.

The kids who watched the show in 1984 are now the parents who are expressing that yes, they do want characters like Knock Out and Breakdown, or Windblade, in the media their kids are watching, and that's why we're getting what we're getting now--because Hasbro said it was okay. Roberts had to get Hasbro's permission to write what he wrote, and he got it. Toy companies really usually are not in the forefront of social change, because kids have to want the items they're pushing, but it's not going to matter if parents won't buy them.

The best combiner color schemes are the ones where the team all use the same colors, but in different ways, like with the Aerialbots and Predacons. That way the components don't all look too similar (G1 Constructicons) and the combiner doesn't look too mismatched (how most usually look, though I wouldn't say these all look bad).

Who fucking cares? How does that hurt the brand in any way? If that stuff isn't your preference, fine, but don't act like the way YOU engage with Transformers is somehow superior to how other people enjoy TFs. Not everyone wants to watch or read every piece of Transformers media ever. Not everyone wants to buy every single toy ever. Knowing All of the Transformers Lore Ever™ is not a prerequisite for being a fan.

For god's sake, what you're complaining about isn't even exclusive to IDW fans. Lots of people only like G1 or TFA or TFP or Beast Wars. They don't get shade thrown at them for only liking one aspect of the franchise, except maybe geewunners when they get obnoxious about it. But nobody's clamoring for every future TF show or comic to be just like IDW. You're making up a type of fan to get mad at.

That's the extent of sexual content in IDW. Just kisses and hugging and the occasional reference to people getting conjunxed.

I mean, how old are people usually before they stop thinking that adults kissing and saying they love each other are gross? I'm pretty sure I was over that by the time I was 10.
