Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will feature action scenes inspired by Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The next installment of the Transformers franchise will see the Autobots and Decepticons joined by more factions of characters including the Predacons, Maximals, and Terrorcons, and feature fan-favorite characters like Optimus Primal. Steven Caple Jr., who directed Creed 2, is at the helm with Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback in the lead roles alongside Peter Cullen and Ron Perlman voicing Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal respectively.
The next installment of the Transformers film franchise will be a follow-up to Bumblebee. Bumblebee took place in the 1980s and took inspiration from the franchise 80s roots along with popular films of the time like those of John Hughes. Transformers: Rise of the Beastswill be set in 1994, keeping with the real-world time frame for when the Beast War line of toys was launched but also allowing the films to pull from 1990's action films for major influence.
According to Comingsoon.net, in a recent interview with director Steven Caple Jr., he expressed his excitement for taking the franchise to the 1990s and the exciting cultural texture and touchstones that come with it. He expressed he wanted to capture the vibe of Terminator 2: Judgement Day when it came to the action sequences for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He looked to the film in the sense of the heaviness of the action between two machine fighters. Caple Jr. said:

"I think you’ll feel the sense of a journey and expedition in this film. This go-around that connects all of those to what you’re saying. Terminator 2 is classic. The heaviness of the metal, if you will, all that stuff plays into it. So I think when you’re looking at our film and looking at sort of where we’re taking it, [we] kind of want to bring that classic expedition, that classic journey through New York and where we go from there.”

Terminator 2: Judgement Day is often regarded as one of the best action movies of the 1990s and a landmark for special effects in film. At the time of its release, Terminator 2 was the most expensive film of all time and went on to become the highest-grossing film of 1991. Even without adjusting the inflation, Terminator 2 is still the highest-grossing film in the Terminator franchise both at the domestic and worldwide box office. The film has inspired numerous other films, including a scene in Captain Marvel where Carol Danvers steals the jacket and motorcycle from a civilian. Given the 1990s setting of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts it makes a certain amount of sense to homage Terminator 2.

This wouldn't be the first time there has been creative overlap between the Transformers and Terminator film franchises. Summer 2009 saw both Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hit the big screen. Michael Bay himself took aim at Terminator Salvation using for using Transformers inspired machines in their film. While many noted that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen introduces a humanoid Transformers named Alice that had quite a bit in common with the various Terminator models. Now it appears that Transformers: Rise of the Beastswill pay a bit more respect and acknowledgment to their influence.

"Transformers inspired machines", do they mean the Moto-Terminators or the Harvester? Neither of which appear to be inspired by TF in any way whatsoever.

Being influenced by T2 is pretty cool, but comparing your yet to be made film to one of the best science fiction sequels of all time is pretty ballsy.

So is Optimus gonna spout one liners while holding a shotgun? Will Cheetor give a thumbs up while lowering himself with a chain into a lava pool?

I'm pretty sure he's just trying to say that just like T2 we will have action scenes in Urban areas with lots of smashing metal and then those actions will take us to other landmarks, and the article writer in desperate need to meet his weekly quota, tried to make a whole article out of it.

I mean, if we get something like that insane chase sequence with the semi truck...with modern CGI, that'd be pretty cool. In fact, given we know Scourge is a semi, that may really be a sequence where you have Bumblebee getting chased down Duel style by Scourge.

Terminator 2 is the greatest action movie of all time IMO. Taking inspiration from it is a huge plus in my book. As a side note, it'll be neat to see the transition from a more Spielberg/John Hughes inspired Bumblebee to an action-oriented Rise of the Beasts.

I watched all the Terminator films last year, and I thought 1 and 2 were fantastic action movies. Taking some inspiration from Terminator 2 is definitely a positive thing in my book. I mean, that movie might very well be the best movie about 'robots in disguise' ever put to screen.

That being said, it wasn't just the action that made it great...I hope this movie lives up in terms of storytelling and characterization. But I do like the idea of bringing more weight to the fights. Sometimes the robots in the Bay films and Bumblebee feel a bit weightless, and CGI fights are always most impactful when it feels like things adhere to physics, more or less.

Saying it's gonna be inspired by T2, and then getting anywhere close to the masterclass in pacing and tension T2 has, are two very different things.

They already tried it once, with Bumblebees "come with me if you want to live" moment, which seemed cool, but then led to an unwatchable scrap between bee and barricade, and frenzy being cut up by a carvery knife.

I think all Transformers fans have thought of that truck as being Nemesis Prime or some other kind of dark Optimus, so if we actually get a sequence based on that chase scene, then that's gonna be pretty sweet.

The scene with the t1000 driving the flat head tow truck after John is by far one of the coolest in cinema. And imagining it being a evil Optimus was always on the table ;)

These were all on the same Press Day event we were in. This clearly shows how we (fansites) report such an event and how entertainment news sites report the same event.

While we look at characters, lore, mythology, continuity etc. and include them in one article, entertainment sites will split them into hundreds of articles, each one based on just one quote, and release the info over several weeks. They will mostly focus on the entertainment aspect or celebrity gossip aspect.

It's nice they're looking at what media was popular at the time. One thing I'm glad they're doing is moving along with the timeline, I originally feared they'd keep it restricted to the 80s because it's trendy to do: "hey guys, remember the 80s unlike now where everything sucks?" TF might even go forward to the early 2000s again which would be cool.

Uhh those are lofty standards to hold yourself to, especially considering that they're working with a movie adaptation series that's only managed to recently lift itself into the realm of good, but not great. Once.

And while I'm no expert on BW lore, having automatically shunned it for its ugly cgi style long ago, Transformers as a whole is action packed but fun, with some grim moments scattered in. I sure hope they remember not to make it too serious. Because T2 just had this incredibly tense atmosphere running through it from start to finish. What a fantastic film it is.

I’m hoping other Hasbro movies in the future (SE) keep up this good influence.

as long as there's no scene of a robot dying while giving a thumbs up. the literal iron giant scene in bumblebee was so out of place and barely different from its inspiration.

I'm not sure what "Terminator 2 influence" means. Time travel? A foundry fight? Nanotech morphing? I really hope it's not the last bit.

They specifically say the action is T2 inspired, not the plot.

Terminator 2 is a classic, and IMO one of the best action movies ever, specifically because it it is not to the absurd bombastic level of modern Hollywood blockbusters. The action is tight, tense, and at a believable scale. When it gets big it feels big, because everything else is so small. When I think T2 action I think the tow truck chase scene, or the slow stalking encounter at the foundry. The action is not good just because it's action, but because of the context. Each action scene in T2 demonstrates the sheer relentless horror of the T-1000 and its single-minded goal of eliminating John Connor. In T2 you always get the sense that the heroes just barely escaped certain death, something Transformers movies sorely lacked up until arguably Bumblebee. TF07 had it a bit, with the slow build up and reveal to Bumblebee and Barricade, but it wasn't especially well done and the payoff was an incredibly lame car chase and a fight that happened almost entirely off screen. In T2 the action wasn't just exciting, it was the payoff to the slow, methodical build up of the two Terminators.

If ROTB can match that tense feeling I'll be all for it. In movies I'll know if I'm invested in an action scene before it even starts, because I'm invested in the stakes and the characters. Those have to be present, it can't just be a Michael Bay migraine of robots I don't give a shit about fighting other robots I don't give a shit about in nauseating excess.
