Slag, Slug, whatever. He's Slag on my shelf. Anyway, I lucked out and grabbed Slag from Target yesterday morning. Let's just get perma-squat Daniel out of the way... Eh.... So, the star of the show! Mouth has a blast effect post, but it isn't really aimed properly. With Grimlock = Perfection. Transformation is pretty good, though the hip to chest joints are pretty tight. Also, the wings are on wide friction posts and can pop off if twisted. Cleans up quite nicely, with no obvious hollow spots. Articulation is excellent. Headsculpt is nicely done. And finally, 2 of 5: Overall, I give Slug/Slag a 9 out of 10. He only loses one point due to the wing joints.
Great review! I'm still on the fence about this guy, as I'm not a huge fan of most of the G1 Dinobot designs and Studio Series leaders are a bit of pain to get a hold of here, but if he's as fun a toy as Grimlock, I might make the effort to hunt him down
Is it possible to fold tail upwards in robot mode (now, it is facing downwards)? Does tail in robot mode hinders posing?
Yep, tail can fold up, but it makes the backpack a bit larger. Doesn't affect stability at all. Articulation isn't hampered at all by the tail being down.
I found Slag yesterday as well. Slag is just a nice solid toy. The joints are good, he's tight/solid in both modes, and he looks great. I really can't find anything wrong with him. If I had to nitpick, I guess I would say his robot hands (fixed in the closed position, unpainted on the inside) and the hollowness in his horns are the worst parts. I would have gladly given up Daniel in order to get a sword, horns that aren't hollow, or better robot hands. But those a very minor nitpicks. Slag is a solid "A" for me. He's better than Grimlock (I can't stand Grimlock's big stubby dino tail and no front dino teeth). Don't hesitate to buy!
Yeah, the horns do look a bit odd. Weird design choice, but I'm sure there will be numerous $20+ options popping up all over the place shortly. Incidentally, the horns actually clip onto a pin inside the top of the head and are easily removable.
but the are skinnier meaning, more precisely thinner is terms that rear ones feet are more narrow that front feet, at least I think so
Yeah, they are thinner in general. The front legs form the arms, while the back ones need to be narrow enough to close up on themselves. It honestly looks fine in hand.
This guy looks awesome. Hoping I can find him in a target soon or maybe BBTS will get him in stock and ship my preorder But Slug also has a big stubby dino tail and no front dino teeth
This guy has me looking so forward to the rest of the Leader Dinobots. My only gripes with him after picking him up are that his arms are skinnier than I feel would be suitable for him, and god damnit- just give Daniel and Wheelie some ball joint elbows and knees.
He looks terrific! That red torso really pops. I will be very happy if the remaining Dinobots are on the same caliber as this guy and Grimlock.
