Yeah Paramount never cared about establishing continuity. So honestly whether it is indeed a prequel or reboot is kinda moot at this point.

Like other people have said. I think it’ll be something in between ie (Days of Future Past). Because it’s odd that outside of Optimus and bumblebee (the faces of the franchise). There the only ones present in ROTB and Bayverse. And arcee was only in ROTF for a few scenes. Either way wether it’s a reboot, prequel or something else. Hopefully it’s nothing like the MCU films.

I think it's a prequel in a broad sense, like how War For Cybertron (2010) was originally marketed as a prequel to G1 despite taking a tonne of creative liberties.

Imagine if Arcee is a major player in the new film and becomes a beloved character. Are we gonna say that she is definitively the same character who was offed so unceremoniously in ROTF that one of the film's own writers didn't even realise she had died until the recording of the DVD commentary?

Cartoon. I've never read the original G1 comics so I can't speak for that.

Easy. If they're keeping all the films in one timeline, kill her off?

Seems like hopping around a few years between films may be the status quo going forward. Even if they do keep Arcee alive up to 2007, who cares? Arcee was barely on anyone's radar in ROTF outside the hardcore fanbase. The general public was too busy fixating on Devastator's balls, how awful Leo and Skids/Mudflap were, or were braindead as the film became completely incoherent after Optimus Prime died.

Granted, as messy as it is, I (barely) understand ROTF. My brain is still trying to make sense of TLK, four years later.

Ladies and gentlemen, ROTB is actually a new breed of film.

    It's a preboot.

What's that you may ask? It's both a prequel AND a reboot! If you squint hard enough it could be either.

Maybe we see his Falling down moment that turns him into murder prime! :lol

In any case, I hope this isn't the case, will be a huge step backwards. They actively erased connections to the bayverse from Bumblebee, so why go back on that now.

They need to grow a pair. The chance to do a movie right within the bayverse has passed. Just make a good fresh movie free from the shackles of that era.

    Mentioned this in another thread

They could probably treat it like former Aligned Continuity where the Cybertron games, Prime/ RID, Rescue Bots, and etc were all vaguely part of the same continuity,
but each were clearly separate universes with different aesthetics, story retcons, and etc.
They were connected, but also definitely not.

Maybe the events of the Bayverse films stripped down to their most basic form happen later in the future of these reboot films, except things are significantly different.
This way, the Bay films are still somewhat treated as relevant for the general audience and Lorenzo,
but Hasbro/ filmmakers going forward aren’t 100% beholden to what happened in those.

Maybe Bayverse 1-5 happened, but with G1-esque designs, a less psychotic Optimus Prime, less US military stroking, characters like Jazz, Arcee, Ironhide, and etc didn’t die, Megatron wasn’t frozen/ freed in 2007, Earth May or may not be Unicron, and etc.

Rebooting just makes the most sense at this point. They can't keep doing prequels forever and I doubt we'll get post-TLK content. This is essentially my thoughts on the matter I posted in another thread:
