I do think it looks somewhat better for this figure, but I also do hope MS won't be using this color scheme for the legs on their Bonecrusher.
However, it's quite a tricky move from NA to alter the deco this close to release. Especially for the people who pre-ordered this figure, based on all those previous product shots..

 

I’m not happy about the late switcheroo after showing all-green legs previously, but it’s a reasonable compromise between the accuracy of the combined mode, and the accuracy of the individual.

I don’t entirely like it, but I can see why they did it.

 

The leg change doesn’t effect me in any way.

Anyway, according their social media rep, the purple on the legs isn’t the only change - the black plastic (e.g. on the heads) has been replaced with a more cartoon accurate dark grey.

 

i was hoping with time and more exposure, i'd eventually warm up to this release. alas, that still has not happened. in fact seeing this new video makes it even less likely. there's too many things i'm finding a disliking for. maybe the G2 or possibly another deco will win me over.  

also, why paint the inner treads on one and not the other? why give one new articulated hands and not the other?

What? Bait and switch is when you deliberately mislead someone into getting a different product, or promise something and then deliver less. In this case, they're actually incurring *more* cost in material and labor, by painting parts that were not originally slates to be painted. In NA's mind, they're doing more than promised. Whether we like it or not, does not make this bait and switch.

I’ll agree that the added purple deco looks like track suit pants but it will make the combined mode better

and let’s be honest if you are buying these are you really going to display them in individual bot mode?

Now NA just needs to fix the purple hinges on the waist armor to be green. Hell even their G2 Devy has non mismatched hip skirts/hinges. They are all yellow.

 

On one hand I think the treads look way better with the purple on them but on the other hand I don't think it's a good practice to advertise one thing and then change it before release without saying anything and then also using the original version on the packaging.
Ultimately this doesn't affect me since I'm holding out for a diaclone repaint but I can understand why others would be upset about the change.

 

If needs be it shouldn't be to hard to remove that paint if you want. I'll be keeping it on him. And these are going to be mainly individual bot modes for me.

 

So we're up to five planed decos with the yellow one.

 

I hope we see orange and Diaclone in addition to those.

 

The treads don't really bother me. I do agree that it should have been clear before pre-orders started.

I am more bummed with changing the heads from black to grey. I understand why; it has been their anime deco pattern for a while now. Honestly the grey just looks dull and washed out. Toy Laserbeak and Ravage look much more vibrant than the toon counterparts. I normally prefer the toy deco, but the Constructicons seem a little too busy.

But I thought the same thing about Soundwave at first, and in hand I am pleased with it.

 

Can I just ask, what are these ‘Diaclone’ colours people are talking about? If I recall correctly, the Diaclone Construction Robo team were released in more than one colourway. Diaclone Mixmaster, for example, was available in both blue and red/orange decos (if memory serves). Are we suggesting they release all the Diaclone colour schemes, or just some of them?

 

Hardcore yes. The Constructicons specifically have great alt modes for displaying as a team, but I love to display every combiner team in their individual and especially their alt modes every now and then.
Edit: Oops. Just realized you said bot mode.
I do like the Constructicons bot modes, but they take last place in my preffered display options for them.

I would have preffered diaclone colors to toon, honestly.
Toy colors are not far from toon deco anyway.

Its true there are two Diaclone decoes. The one with Mixmaster, Hook, and Long Haul in red and the others in yellow. And the one with Long Haul in red and Mixmaster and Hook in blue.
I hope they do the second deco.

And I also really hope they'll go back to their Insecticons and release them in their Diaclone deco.
They got such a glorious vibrant Diaclone deco deco.

 

I think most of us just want a set that depicts colors used for the initial Construction team boxed set or the second release with the blue Hook and Mixmaster. I’d be thrilled with either WITH the appropriate sculpt changes to the heads of the individual team members and combined robot.
