If this happened in the Bayverse instead, what do you think Optimus would say before executing Hot Rod?

 

That makes no sense whatsoever. If you meant what Optimus might say before executing Megatron, then it probably would have been either a more succinct version of the "You who were without mercy now plead for it?" quote, or just "Die."

 

I wish there was just one bit of a line there. A gasping "I do..."

But I will say the Rodimus Prime received Optimus' blessing and forgiveness through the Matrix.

 

I was implying that Optimus would blame Hot Rod for getting him killed. Then in typical Bay-Prime fashion, gleefully slaughter Hot Rod while giving a speech about his bastardized definition of justice or a dumb one-liner.

HotRod did nothing wrong but try to help his mentor .......Optimus was wise enough to know that and I would have never held it against him

This shit again? Even if you have a problem with how brutal Optimus is to the Cons, saying that he'd do the same to anyone who doesn't deserve it is an outright lie. Heck, the only person that he willingly killed that wasn't a Con was freaking Attinger, and frankly, that corrupt, murderous piece of filth had it coming.

To everyone else in the thread, let me just apologize in advance for this thread possibly getting derailed into yet another "Bayverse Optimus: Hero or Psycho" argument.

 

That's pretty much how I've always thought it would've played out had Hot Rod listened to Kup and let Optimus handle Megatron on his own. Though my thought is that Megatron would've still grabbed the gun, Optimus would've seen it, and would've been forced to fire back.

Though I would also consider the possibility that Optimus would shoot the gun out of Megatron's hand rather than kill him. How it would've played out then would be up for further speculation.

As for the answer to this question, yes, do I believe Hot Rod was forgiven. Why else would Optimus let Hot Rod succeed him and become Rodimus Prime? If Optimus didn't forgive Hot Rod, either somebody else would've been picked, or it would've gone straight back to Ultra Magnus.

Better question: did Optimus ever forgive Kup for NOT coming to help him. At least Hot Rod tried, and a failed attempt is better than not trying at all.

Just like in Headmasters where Rodimus and Galvatron fight and Kup, Blurr and Arcee watch and don't intervene. Rodimus Prime almost got killed by Galvatron (saved by Soundblaster interrupting Galvatron), while if they helped they could've perhaps beaten Galvatron or at the very least prevented Rodimus from almost dying.

Likewise here, Kup and Hot Rod weren't fighting anyone else (why exactly? We see Autobots fight throughout the city all through the night, but Kup and Hot Rod emerge unscathed from some bunker after Optimus halted the Decepticon advance) so both could've helped their leader fight off the greatest threat to the Autobots and the murderer of several of their friends. But Kup thought helping was a bad idea? Yeah, if I came back from the dead after that I would also call him Shitpiece.

Megatron actually got hold of the gun and Optimus could see he did so, well before Hot Rod arrived on the scene. And still Optimus didn't shoot.

Then Hot Rod arrived, distracted Megatron (in the movie you can see Megatron turning around away from Optimus to face Hot Rod who came running up from behind Megatron), Megatron and Hot Rod fought and only then did Optimus start complaining that Hot Rod was in the way.

In an earlier version of the script (the one that got adapted by Marvel) Hot Rod wasn't present, Megatron got the gun and killed Optimus immediately. Thanks to Hot Rod, Optimus got to live a few seconds longer.

 

Optimus might've forgiven him, but Brandon M. Easton sure as hell didn't.
