Who ever wrote it - it was terrible writing. That CW decided to adopt that doesn't make it any better.
It was created in the 1960s and it makes sense there would be a form of Kryptonite that could give humans superpowers, since there's one that can boost a kryptonians powers and even give them a completely new random power and 2 that can take them away. Plus the idea of people being given Kryptonian powers isn't new, Lex Luthor did it to himself in the One Year Later story.
I know it's not new. They pulled the same shenanigans in Smallville too. I still doesn't make it good writing. Btw, granting some type of random power is more excusable than suddenly turning the biochemic physiology of body via psychosematic overwriting. That's pushing bullshit into absurd bullshit. Sorry, some of you may be OK with all of this. To a few others, it's utter horse crap.
And I would tell those fans to pull the stick out, because this is nothing new or something people should be angry about unless you just want to be angry.
You realize you don't have to watch the show right? Like, you can claim it's bad writing, but they have actually explained the story pretty well so far this season.
And one that flips their sexual orientation. And blue suns also boost their powers to no bullshit god levels.
I think they changed what Pink K does, so now it changes their gender. That happened when Superman got into a fight with the Greek Sun God, Apollo in the Superman/Wonder Woman comic.
What makes you think I have watched the show since that garbage episode? I had hopes for this show. I walked away disappointed. Again, to you, it is excusable. Just because one explains crap eloquently/pretty well doesn't stop it from being crap. Lets just say we have very different views regarding this matter: You are content with the explanation, I am not. You are not wrong, but neither am I.
Curious, if you walked away from the show disappointed then why are you still participating in this thread complaining about the show? I mean, it's not like you can't post here, just seems like self inflicted emotional masochism, to keep partaking of something you don't enjoy. And again, the plot devices are pulled directly from the comics, so really your issue shouldn't be with the writing of this show, it should be with the writing of the Superman comics that this is pulling from.
And it's not like you can't swing a cat and hit a comic fan bitching about how much Superman sux and should go away.
Because, like you, I'm stating my opinion. I love Superman, but I'm very displeased with what they've done with him lately, that they've translated that onto a series doesn't make it any better. This series started off decent, till they decided to pull that nonsense. Weather my opinion is liked or not isn't my concern (it's not a popularity contest) and I'm not the only one that has mentioned how displeased with the show's writing (be it whatever or where ever they got the source material from).
Lots of stuff from the Silver age are pretty deep cuts now days. I'd never heard of X-K before. And I like to dig up weird old timey crap like that. Plus SA Superman is chocko to the brim with silly shit like that.
Which is why it is in need of a resurgence. A form of Kryptonite that can give Kryptonian powers to humans should be more prevalent in the comics.
So what makes good writing? This show has an intense storyline. It’s kept me on the edge of my seat since it started. It’s only gotten better as goes along, and it started off amazing. Now I know I’m not watching the same show if Superman and Lois is called bad writing. It’s the best Superman we’ve gotten in a long time; quite possibly on par with Christopher Reeve.
The villain going "oh bee tee dubs I'm your long lost brother, join me and we can reign in EVILZ over these pathetic/inferior/sheep mortals/humans/hobbits!!!!" is a GIANT cliché. No excuses, exceptions, or exemptions. Burning a known character as a fake out is a dick move. Being annoyed about this show doing hose things is a legitimate complaint. A less legit complaint is the Super-family stuff (aka the b-plot being centred around the super-sons). If you're put off by a core concept of the show, why are you even watching?
Despite me being born in the 60's, not all of us read comics nor care to (and that doesn't make me more or less of a fan if I don't read comics. There are just some people who are not into comics). Regardless of when or where they pulled the source material, just because they rehashed it decades later does it make it for good writing. That you are OK with it is your opinion. Not everyone shares the same mindset. Since when was it not permissible to comment (be it good or bad) on a show a person stopped watching?
Just caught up on the show last night, and I think this latest episode was maybe the best episode of any CW-verse series. This show isn't perfect, but it totally gets Superman and is the best non-comic Supes media we've had in...decades.
Agreed. I had put off watching this even though my friends kept telling me to watch it and then I had some time off from work and I absolutely binged it. What I like... - The plots move fast. Nothing is dragged out. Mystery man plot solved. Morgan Edge plot solved. - Superman Dad actually works. It actually works! He's not hokey, stupid or cliche. He feels very relatable. The most relatable Superman/Clark ever. - Lois Lane Mom work too. - Jon and Jordan are fine. Typical angsty stuff but not too grating. And it's actually neat to see two brothers who are actually nice to each other (most of the time). - It's a nice "reversal" on who usually gets powers and who doesn't. - They actually talk about what its like to be the "normal humans" in a super powered family and how that sorta sucks and how you have to adapt to that. I mean, when does that ever get explored? - Product values, wow, they actually spent money on a CW show... What I don't like... - Commercials, lol. I'm watching this on the CW app. - If you bing this, you do kinda get "sugared out" on too much Superman. I guess just pace yourself if you are barely catching up. I'm soooo surprised by this show. It's not perfect and you get into the typical teenage angst tropes and family drama tropes but it's just really well paced, it doesn't linger on things to the point that they become annoying. The family dynamic feels really nice. Good chemistry with all the actors. Good acting. Again, its not perfect but for a "super hero family drama" it works really well, at least for me. I'm paranoid that the writing staff used up all the gas on the first season and season 2 will not be as good, but that's just my paranoia.
