I have to chuckle at Dinobot's "would you prefer I challenge you to battle?" because inside I'm like "YES, at least then something exciting might happen!" So far Dinobot's initial defection is the only real character-focused action in the five months this has been ongoing.

I want to give this book a fair shake, but so far it's just dull. No energy. I know I don't personally like that Dinobot, a character defined by his warrior ways, just lets himself be detained. I feel like there should be friction there. This may be my own perspective, but this overly diplomatic angle makes him feel like a character who lacks agency and is merely acting out the plot. The problem with stories like these where everyone just sits and talks is that it gives the impression that no one is spurred to action. No one is compelled to do much based on their bias or impulses. The closest we got was last issue where the Maximals almost attack Dinobot thinking he hurt Nyx, and apparently that was "resolved" off-panel. I don't need a random fight scene every issue, but it would be nice to see these moments of tension culminate in hostility to give a sense of consequence.

I dunno, so far this book is all talk, no shock. I'm hoping now that the Maximals are "together" things start moving, but it's not like there's any clear forward direction that I can discern. I still don't know what anyone really wants, besides Megatron I guess. Who knows, maybe the very next page things get interesting?

ok, very nice, a lot to like in this preview for me, they def earned some cred back in my mind

-we see dinobot locked up, showing it isnt just a simple trust in him, which feels natural

-it's also pretty natural reverse from the cartoon opener; there optimus was a wiser leader and trusted dinobot because he was wise enough to be able to read him; here he is not so wise yet and so takes up caution and distrust, which makes sense

-i feel like he's so calm because hes just humoring their efforts to earn their trust, like how he easily took down cheetor, he could probably bust out of the cell easy.

-acknowledging optimus' still weak leadership skills and faults, as well as his clearly feeling bad about his decision to send nyx out.

-the reference to battle for leadership, then the comment about the possibility is a perfect reference, but i think it is also planting a seed for the future. dinobot may see optimus as enough of a poor leader down the road that he indeed does try to take command, but its less for personal glory and more out of necessity for proper leadership that eh sees in himself.

-def think nyx and rhinox(being the most open minded regarding preds) will be the biggest advocators on dinobots behalf.

I don't think that's right. Other RI covers haven't followed story beats so this could be another example.

Airazor first would be a heck of a change.

 

It wasn't bad, but it really was not worth the wait.

Kudos to IDW for breaking records in mediocrity.

The trifecta is complete : crap comics, crap cartoons, crap toys.

I loved the crossover, but hated the art.

 

Vinyl, Octavia, the Student Six and Soundwave all starting in the same story? It's like they're cherry picking the best of both franchises!

P.S. I'm still passionate about TFs but I'm old enough to remember when the fandom didn't sit idly by and fangush over every little mediocre thing. This is crap and you know it. Hasbro licensing dep just approves whatever passes their desk it seems.
