Seriously though, I'd be fine with a just a new head on the Megatron mold. Burly fembot is fine with me.

 

The JP dinosaurs could switch genders because of the frog DNA used to fill in the missing gaps. That's why you eventually have both genders of dinosaurs wandering around later. But Rexy is definitely female. If the T-Rex turns out to be a basic repaint of BW Megatron, I may not bother getting the set. And simply slapping a female head on, the way they did with TR Arcee and Selects Road Rage, isn't really good enough (IMO).

 

Tigatron was a male character with a female beast mode. Even if Rexy is absolutely female, there's still precedent for it to turn into a male character

 

They should give Rexy a new robot head and chest to look less like Megatron.

 

Okay but like I just said Blackarachnia got NONE of that and was still a female character. She wouldn't need a new head/chest but I'm sure people will act like that's the case even if the Ford packed with her is a gloriously detailed new mold.

 

You have a point, but that is one homage to Beast Wars they I hope they avoid.

 

Why does it matter? We only knew the gender of Tigatron's alt because the show made a point of turning Snowstalker in to a minor supporting character. It's just as likely that Rhinox, Rattrap, and Cheetor scanned female alt modes...it just never came up because none of them befriended them.

It’s not even the gender of the character or the alt mode that I care about. It’s that Beast Wars Megatron’s headsculpt and torso is so unique to him that anything using it will just look like him in disguise.

Using a new head based on the battle mask or even just a generic two eyes and a faceplate head would be a big improvement and help make this feel like a new character instead of ‘Megatron (Beast) (Undercover)’.

 

Yeah, this is the main reason I'm hoping that most of the robot mode parts will get retooled. It would be lame if it was literally just BW Megs in various shades of brown.

 

Blackarachnia used the normal head while Tarantulas used the mutant head. You could say the mutant head was masculine and the normal head was feminine.

 

But that was minimal. It was barely anything.

 

That was Hastak's way of going the old cheapo route when it came to female characters back in the day (and the toy looked nothing like her animation character. Of course, Hasbro did something similar for TR Arcee and Selects Road Rage fairly recently. )
(i mean we're talking about the era where most Ultra Magnus toys were just white Optimus Prime repaints. Yeah, OK, they kind of worked but you really wanted something more than that).

I'd like Hasbro to do better than a redecoed male body with a headslap for their female characters these days. I'm pretty that's still Hasbro's thing because Takara definitely do tend to go the extra mile when it comes to their own separate approach to fembots (like MP Road Rage).

I'd rather not encourage Hasbro to continue with their archaic (imo) female headslap route if I can help it.
