I would've preferred Chalk to reprise his role but I'm hoping that with the big film budget behind this endeavor, we'll get a better performance out of Perlman this time.

Why did you link the same video twice? What does it have to do with the rest of this wall of text? Are your punctuation keys broken? What's your deal?

Yeah, exactly. At that point I'd rather much have a new OP VA that can have the same iconic level of Cullen but has their own unique take, not an imitation. But as for SW, it's Disney. They're practically a cult with their stuff they archive for Primus knows how long.

If it was a direct sequel to BW, then I understand the want for the same voice cast.

Tbh, I always expect a new voice cast for the new iteration of Transformers. The characters may look, and be named the same, but they are not the same characters. Cheetor from Beast Wars is not the same character as Cheetor from IDW or Cyberverse (and he does not need to be). I'm really interested in what will be the story of the Maximals in the movie. Will they retread the future-past theme of the original Beast Wars or will they go with the newer "Guardians of the Allspark" route?

Hey, folks...call me crazy, but I'm starting to suspect this movie isn't going to be like the cartoon was, for the seventh time in a row.

It seems like that we ended up having basically the exact same idea <3

And yes, I'd absolutely love for this to become reality one day.

And if there was an ongoing 15 year+ hiatus on their appearances in the franchise, I'd have said the same thing.

As long as we get a cameo from Chalk, I'll be happy (he's appeared in Godzilla and Sonic the Hedgehog, so it's possible). Perlman is an awesome actor and I'm sure he'll do a great job as Primal.

People can't say that this isn't true, because I remember fans criticising Bay for initially wanting Liam Neeson for Optimus. I don't recall people saying "Well as much as I want Cullen back as Optimus, Neeson has a solid voice." Every time Bay did something "anti G1" there were people there who immediately criticised that, why isn't that the same in this case? Where are people criticising the production crew this time? I remember even after the 2007 film people were still begging for Welker to return. Pearlman is fine because he's voiced Primal before? Chalk voiced Optimus Prime before so by this logic he could easily have been cast in 2007 and the fandom should have been fine with this, but we know that would not have been the case because it would have been Cullen or bust.

I'm saying this objectively. I wanted Chalk back, but knew that with Hasbro's current attitude he wouldn't have been asked to reprise the role even though he was recently in Sonic the Hedgehog. I guess it comes down to marketability. I'm ultimately fine with Pearlman, but there are double standards at work here.

Because Ron Perlman is a very well-known actor/voice actor. Gary Chalk is not.

And with all due respect to fans of Beast Wars, Optimus Primal is nowhere near as iconic as Optimus Prime.

this, this right here. I love Beast Wars, I’m 32 and thats the show I grew up watching but I know optimus primal just isn’t iconic like optimus prime is. He never was and never will be. I wish he was and it definitely would’ve been cool to have Chalk back but I never expected him to be cast anyways

I don’t think anyone thought it was gonna be exactly like the 90s cartoon. However, it would’ve been cool if the old voice actors voiced their characters for the movie.

This is the first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title. I think he’ll make a great Primal. The Beast playing a robot beast sounds good to me. :)

    That's...dedication.

@Ephland Um, Chalk has been kickin around the VA industry for almost as long as Cullen. At least since 1989.
