A lot of the potential Bay connections are worrying me, but at least one thing that seems promising is that the director mentioned something about time travel. I’ve been worried about the Beast Wars characters being reduced to just regular, modern day Autobots and Decepticons, which I feel would miss the point of BW in general. So hopefully at least that part is cleared up?
I’m sure Nightbird will be googled a lot with the phrase “R34” in the coming future.

Comments from this Polygon article on what kind of aesthetic to expect: "The concept art shown at the event isn’t available to share here, but this appears to be true — they’re less the sinewy weird metal from the Michael Bay films and a little boxier, more obviously reconfigured car parts. Three Maximals were also revealed: Airazor, Rhinox, and Optimus Primal, only shown off in their animal form, each more statuesque and organic than machine."

Why do they still pretend as if this is tied to the Bayverse?

What BS are you even talking about? You've moved this so far away from the original discussion and added so many words to what I've said, I don't even know how to respond. It's part of the plot of beast wars that the names are homages to great warriors of their past. So what even is your point there?

If you call a character Blitzwing, I want to see three modes and have it not look like Starscream. Twist that however you want to make some witty reply, but if we never actually reboot, we will never see a Triple changing Blitzwing in this live action universe and that sucks. Making a bunch of false equivalences doesn't change that.

Are we sure it's not just Lorenzo Di Bonaventura saying it's connected to the Bayverse? He doesn't seem like he has knowledge of...well, anything.

Also, he didn't explicitly say it was connected to the Bayverse. Whatever was said was super ambiguous and could honestly go either way.

That is what I’m counting on. I just hope the fear of contradicting the Bay movies doesn’t get in the way of characters and story. Like Megatron not showing up because “he is supposed to be on ice” that would be super annoying.

It's part of the plot in BW that they are different characters and are merely named to honor the warriors of the past. They all exist in the same universe hence Optimal Optimus. That's not the same as making what amounts to live action G1 and making one character look like another major character while removing one of their defining features by never showing a second alt mode. That character should have been a throw away name, despite any other perceived patterns of change or excuses for reimagining this group of fanboys can muster. It was a bad choice, accept it, and move on.

Sure. And you know what the tank Decepticon in the original 2007 film was named?

    Devestator.

I seem to distinctly remember the 2009 sequel also having a very, very different Devestator that wasn't really Brawl.

I personally don't like them burning the name Blitzwing on a disposable character, but the funny thing is nowhere in Bumblebee was he was he actually addressed by name as such. A proper triple changer Blitzwing could appear with his name intact and nothing is ruined. Or they could call the triple changer Overcharge - the name being an homage to the eHobby redeco of the G1 toy meant to be a Quintesson mass production drone.

To borrow from MTMTE I tend to think of it as A Blitzwing not THE Blitzwing.

Considering the main bad guy is scourge and not Megatron, it would seem they are going to still keep pretending he’s on ice.

More info on Prime from Caple:

"The main hero is Optimus, as we all know and love," Caple said. "We're bringing Prime back, paying direct homage to Generation One. I care so much about this character that I really wanted to dive into Transformers, and I saw a Bumblebee and I was like, okay, Bumblebee had his own movie, but I want to discover more about Optimus Prime, dig underneath the surface, get underneath the metal, if you would, and like explore who he is and his experience here on earth, you know?"

"I know everyone has been asking like crazy, are we going, G1, are we going to G1?" Caple continued. "The answer is, yes, we are going to G1, the Prime."

The movie takes place about a decade before Michael Bay's Transformers -- and Caple plans to use that as an opportunity to explore a kind of "Year One" approach to Optimus Prime, and give fans a sense of how he became a great leader.

"It's 1994, and in a way, both the animated series and the Bay films treat Optimus the same in the sense of who he is as a leader, what is his drive?" Caple said. "All those things. What we've done is we're bringing it back to where you see how he becomes, what you're familiar with. And that's big new news."

And, yes, it isn't just a question of him spending 10 years on Earth. There's more to it than that, and fans will get to see what his "emotional" tie is to the planet, according to the director.

"When you say got to where he is, you mean 'we need to protect these earthlings and this biological planet,'" Caple explained. "The way to look at it is he's new to earth and he doesn't have a connection to earth the way we met him in the Bay films and the way we met him in the animated series where he's already a protector of Earth. And so in this film, it's forming, why does he have a link to humanity? And why does he have a link to earth? And that's emotional...At the beginning of Bumblebee, we showed, he escaped from Cybertron his home planet. And so in a sense, he's he literally is like an ex-pat here, right? He's landed. He's, he's an alien and he's never been here before. And so it allows us to get underneath say the stoicism of what we're traditionally presented in an Optimus."

Hope it turns out good. I don't want to step on any toes when I say this but I hope the robo-gore and glory kills comes back in some form even if it's not as over the top as Optimus ripping Megatron's head and spine out with an axe in DOTM.
