I don't know how to feel about the possibility that this is tied to both Bumblebee and the Bay films, but there are some interesting ideas, and even if the movie doesn't utilize them, I'm still going to enjoy the buildup to the movies, seeing the designs, and the toys when they come out.

 

Maybe it's a grab at the Monsterverse fans too? Kaiju got big again, mecha has always been big, mecha kaiju with a name like Optimus attached to it should sell in spades.

I could agree with it if we weren't talking about Transformers. But here, really? The designs totally change in every continuity, what Bay movies did was nothing different. UT had it the most. And live action movies showed there is no need yo get stuck in already done things. See Ironhide, Sideswipe, even Bumblebee new design that got iconic as fuck, the Optimus design a lot of people love, and even tf1 Megatron which was badass AF. As long as they keep their personality or make one that fits, like tf1 Megatron who acted and looked more like a Predaking. Damn, TF Cybertron Megs was a car

It would fit with those being "next" in the nostalgia cycle after BW. Especially since there's some mold usage crossover with RiD/BW.

 

Maybe a little correction but if the movie is set in 94 night bird would have to be a Skyline GT-R maybe the then new R33 but possibly the more popular R32. The GTR didn't become it's own thing till 2009 with the R35.

 

He wasnt a truck until 2002 but that came after the fire truck. I mean I GUESS we can consider the Optimal as a "truck" but that's rough

 

Interesting that Scourge will be in the main villain in the film and Nightbird his second in command. I always thought of Nightbird as an Autobot.

 

I really like @T-Hybrid's take on Scourge in that he could be a big game hunter tracking down the Maximals and/or Predacons. That could be a great way to incorporate all 3 factions without feeling too bloated (especially if they're all smaller groups as opposed to actual military factions)

Them still being vague about this movie's connection to the Bayverse is disheartening though. Please, just let it die already.

Was hoping for organic/realistic beast modes but I'll keep an open mind. Wasn't a big fan of the TLK Primal design but I'm curious to see the other steampunk beasts.

Considering Hasbro has more input this time around, it might mean that Porsche has come around and is finally allowing licensed toys. Bring on MP Jazz, baby!

 

All he needs is a completely inconspicuous three headed dragon tattoo on his body.

 

God sakes a new character design doesn’t have to look like it’s origins design. Mirage doesn’t have to look like his nearly 40 old cartoon self.

 

I feel mixed,

I wish it was more of a tv show. Story feels bloated, to many factions for a 2 hour film.

I also wish it wasn’t pulling an X-men and shoe horning itself into a failed film series. Like make Bee a reboot and move forward. Bee doesn’t feel connected as is.

The one thing that keeps me optimistic is the robots sound cool. I like the G1 sound for the G1 bots. Beast sound interesting. Kinda TM. I know bringing beast to screen will be hard.

 

He doesn't have to, but there's nothing wrong with his original design either. I'm more concerned about him just becoming a generic asshole since Crosshairs was mentioned.
