If you're getting the TDW kit you might as well be picking up the POTP set since the upgrade kit will cover all the changes Takara made to this. (also half the price)

I'm mostly interested in the knee covers, hip covers, gun, and hands. I might use the TDW feet if they are more stable, but I think I remember reading they were bad. I love the new chest and the new head deco from Takara, so those will stay as-is.

I sold my TDW kit and just went with kneecaps.
I did like the TDW hands though.

Well I got my copy, and all things considered he's fine. All joints and combiner ports are all right. One of the ratchets in Hun-grr's shoulder's/Abominus' legs is broken out of the box, but the friction is enough to hold it in place just fine so I'm not concerned. He'll display just fine and remains stable, though as expected he's no better or worse that the original PotP version.

At least in stability, stuff like the colors, lack of stickers, and new chest/feet/borrowed Seacon hands are all an improvement over the original.

I'm pretty happy with the set! Dynamic posing and toon colors!

I got mine today and I'm incredibly disappointed with the QC of this set. I'm going to return it. This was not worth the $200 I spent on it.

If anyone wants it lmk in a PM, hasbro customer service loves to take its time. You can have it for cost + shipping.

Can you elaborate on what the QC issues are?

I would assume the horrendous floppiness of combiner mode followed by warps affecting Cutthroat's bird head. The floppiness is easily the worst of the GS Combiners so far, which is further accentuated by how good GS Volcanicus turned out.

Floppiness in the legs, I can get him to stand up straight but it takes some work. Don't have any issues with cutthroats head but his wings weren't pinned in well so they're floppy.

I got mine a few days ago, and, at least when it comes to Hun-Grr, this one is significantly less floppy than my PotP version. Sinnertwin's combiner joint was definitely weaker on the GS than PotP, but a new spring helped that. The new Cutthroat's bird head is also excellent on mine, no issues at all. Unlike my PotP, which constantly falls apart. Rippersnapper and Blot also had tighter leg joints, resulting in tighter elbows for Abominus.

It sounds like there's a lot of variation here between copies. Besides Sinnertwin's combiner joint, everything on mine was a noticeable improvement. That said, I still had to do some mods to get the stability closer to my liking, which I've, sadly, had to do with pretty much every CW/UW style combiner. But I was expecting this to be a disaster, somehow worse than the previous release, based on what I read here. Only to be pleasantly surprised to find that not to be the case.

I've considered swapping the ratchets in GS Hun-Grrr for the PotP version.

I have an extra PotP version because I got so desperate for a UW style Abominus, I actually bought an extra Hun-Grrr to customize. And I haven't customized a Transformer since 2000.

I'm not sure if such a thing is possible?

Only one way to find out...

I'm not familiar with how Hun-Grrr is put together, but Silverbolt had some glue holding together his leg to get to the ratchet. I've taken apart Motormaster to replace the ratchets and it was really easy.

Mine came today. No issues with the hip ratchets.
Biggest (aka most annoying) QC issue I have is a couple loose fingers on one hand.

These 2, specifically. The ones hanging down.

They do not want to stay in place.

My Abominus arrived today, and while he feels solid for the most part, it refuses to stand if I try to pose him standing straight up. However, if I pose him dynamically he stands just fine like he has no problems what-so-ever, so long as the feet themselves are flat on the display surface (currently - my desk). My combiner hands also have the loose fingers issue, although on mine its the two middle fingers on both hands. The outer fingers are fairly tight.

Going to have to fix the gun post as it's too loose in this hands but here's my preferred setup.

Well, playing it a little dangerous. Grabbed one at TCP. While 219.99, I can knock 5 bucks off from the points I'm getting, so the late tax was only 5 bucks. I lucked out (kind of), and picked up some overtime at work which covered most of the cost.

Edit: also, did anyone cancel their order. I checked the inventory and its still showing 2. Would they place a cap on purchases and not put a notice for that?

After a few days my initial butthurt wore off and I pulled the set out of their box again and fixed all the issues I was having. I like it a lot more now.

Cutthroat had a loose wing because the pic/rivet wasn't pushed in all the way so I brushed some future in the joint until it was tighter. Hunngurr was a lot harder to fix, again, the issue was that the pin for the internal ratchet assembly for the arm wasn't pushed in all the way. They was no way to disassemble the joint so I got a little block of sheet styrene jammed it under the ratchet from inside the torso and very carefully super glued it with a toothpick. That fixed the floppiness.

Still upset I had to do any of this for a $200 set and I'm still waiting for my claim with Hasbro to be addressed so I can politely be a Karen because this isn't acceptable.

Let me know how that claim with Hasbro goes, I might have to be Karen Jr and piggyback off it.

I've had mine since Friday now, so far, so good. The only real issue has been a loose finger on one of the hands, and a loose wing on Cutthroat. The thumbs are tight on this one, whereas they were loose on my God Neptune. Hip ratchets and joints seem fine, and actually are much tighter than on my PoTP version. He can pull the straight-legged stance without leaning and falling forward, unlike the old version. Everything else seems fairly tight. I've transformed him a few times into individual modes and back and moved him around in different poses a few times to see if anything loosens up over time, so far, so good.
