It's not the years that make me feel old, it's the mileage.

 

So, after getting Kingdom Rhinox in-hand I have to say I'm at a crossroads when it comes to Waspinator.

T30 Rhinox still looks great and personally my favorite of the two, but as figures go... Kingdom is the better one. He's structurally more sound, there's nothing to rot, he holds together much better than T30 does (at least my copy) and there's no denying that as a plus.

I think he's needlessly complex to the point of being stupid and a completely awful experience when transforming him. (I'm not overselling it, he's really an awful Transformer but a good figure.)

Waspinator, on the other hand, has the virtue of being rather simplistic to transform, didn't seem to have robot mode shoulders that snap because you transformed him, and his beast mode is insane. I think he'll end up being the better figure as well. Maybe not the best Waspinator, maybe not the best Transformer, but as a toy goes... He'll be the better choice.

*sigh* I really love the T30 bots on visuals, alone, and this is really difficult for me to admit. I guess some visual compromise is necessary to make a better toy. -_-

Man, Rhinox's transformation sucks. So, so bad. I HATE it.

Kingdom Rhinox still at the store because I ain't buying him (first and only Beast era CHUG since Universe Cheetor to have that honor).



That's where I'm at with these guys. A toy needs to either look pretty on the shelf (or be the prettiest version of a character I want represented, at least) or be fun to fiddle with and transform. Kingdom Rhinox doesn't look to be checking either of those boxes.

 

I'm well aware some people never got 30th Waspinator. I even stated "This is a okay option for those that missed the '30th Waspinator'." However in my opinion '30th Waspinator' is superior.

I like the new Waspinator, I did have thrilling 30th, they are both good in their own ways. I think the animated was pretty similar and very good as well. I think with this one I prefer the deco a little bit more, except the wings, but its nothing to run a little coat of paint over them like with Titans Kickback.

 

i really do like this new waspinator, he definitely looks very promising

 

i wonder if they will ever do redecos of these in shiny chrome paint as i think that would be the thing that tips a few of these over the edge

 

well, theres the premium finish line, or they might do a final wave of the netflix line though these are both rather unlikely

 

After mulling it over, I think my analysis is that this figure has some features I prefer over T30, but some features T30 did better. I think the bright green and yellow makes him look a bit cheap. I'm also puzzled at the shades of purple used here and on Scorponok. I feel they're just...not...good.

Still thrilled to see Beast Wars getting so much attention, will definitely buy, and will hope for more Beasties in the future. Now Tigatron leaks, please. :-D

Wait, that's a thing? News to me. I've transformed mine dozens of times since I picked him up on the aftermarket last year, and there's still not so much as a single stress line.
